12:00 AM
Aha! You have been cursed with the curse of unproductivity for the next several months while you attempt to beat the entire series!

:(
right now I'm playing tf2 to blow off steam

But you will come back... We all do...
How far in ar you?

> steam

yes
@ГригорийПерельман area 1 still I think

12:04 AM
sounds right
has undead so

What class did you pick?

what you suggested, thief/rogue
that's good right

Actually I suggested Mage. But thief is good too.

ah
don't remember what item I chose, think ring

The ring is good. The thing with the thief is you have to get good with timing your shield parries, that's the hard bit.

12:09 AM
hm, ok

Actually, the more that I think about it, the thief is actually one of the harder starting classes. His saving graces are the Master Key and the fact that he can branch out easily, but realisticly until you perfect the shield parry 1 on 1 combat will be hard.
But when you do get the timing down, you start dealing insane damage with backstabs and ripostes.

oh cool
so tl;dr; learn to parry

YES. You have a really crappy shield and you fight at close range.
With the master key you'll be able to get a crossbow early on, but bolts are expensive.

hm ok

On the bright side, thief is the best at fighting bosses.
Bosses tend to be slow, allowing you to pull of your high damage more, and ranged tends to be not as effective on them.
Many hit hard (or even kill you instantly), so the higher speed is a better advantage than the defence offered by classes like Warrior and Knight.

12:18 AM
Most important thing in Dark Souls: learn to use roll effectively

hm, ok

Your parry does nothing against a guy with a mace literally 10 times your size.

lol

Have you met Havel the Hammer Guy? He's the guy on the round staircase that kills you instantly.

12:22 AM
How does this post get me suspend? There was no conversations going on and it was a funny video.
The video is harmless and clean. I mean Studio C's goal is to provide clean family friendly comedy. Wikipidia say: "The show aims to produce clean, family-oriented comedy"
I do not disagree btw. As i do not nkow why
@Mego could you shed some light?

because it's noise, probably

Ok but Riker was not kicked for posting "noise"
About 5-10 minutes before (the message was about 5-10 away chat was inactive)

@DownChristopher which noise?
@DownChristopher prolly because the thumbnail

I personally feel we should start enforcing On-topic discussion inside this chat.

@ГригорийПерельман nope

12:28 AM
@Riker Getting kicked based off of a thumbnail that is not bad but may make the video seem bad is over reactive

doens't matter really

@ATaco why though

Discussion about moderator action that feels unjustified should be taken to the meta.

you posted a link with a possilby offensive thumbnail
you knew it would onebox

12:29 AM
@DownChristopher that has a moderate relation to the topic of this chat

@ASCII-only There have been multiple times I've been trying to have a discussion about something PPCG related, only to be talked over by someone talking about Video Game Music or something.

computers in general

@Riker How is that offensive? It is a dude with a mask on...
Whatever going to meta

it looked to me like a guy getting mugged

@ATaco You do know there are other PPCG chatrooms right?

12:31 AM
Yes, and this is the one dedicated to General PPCG Discussion.

CMC: Given an input string, post it in TNB.

@Riker Watch the video

You may assume you are already logged in on any browser.

I didn't and I don't really want to
doesn't matter what the vid is, the image that was posted in chat was offensive

@ГригорийПерельман JavaScript (ES6), 49 bytes: s=>$('#input').val(s)&&$('#sayit-button').click()

12:51 AM
@ГригорийПерельман Dmitry, 0 bytes:
(just test it)

(it's a joke)
@ConorO'Brien -.-

Q: Question about mod action taken

Down ChristopherMessage that got me suspended... If you watch the video it is a clean funny video by Studio C and Studio C's goal is "to produce clean, family-oriented comedy for a national audience". I do not understand how that is worth of suspending me. I do not think noise applies since literally 5 messages ...

1:36 AM
@Riekr how is my video offensive but not you using the f word?

ok so revenge flagging is definitely not okay, if I perceive the situation correctly

because we are humans, not machine =))))))))))))
you should move on, really.

Can we, by chance, stop this?

@ConorO'Brien That was not revenge flagging

@DownChristopher fwiw that doesn't ping me, I'm only still here bc I was pinged in another room
I'm out now because I'm eating now, see y'all

1:39 AM
:P bye

o/

@DownChristopher in your profile you said you're making a language. can you give me a link?

CMC: What does this mapping represent? 0:4 1:4 2:4 3:6 4:5 5:5 6:4 7:7 8:6 9:6 10:4 (hint: consolas)

Hi! I'm having another good run on nethack again. I have encountered my first cockatrice
what do

@LearnHowToBeTransparent github.com/Cis112233/Fluff not much done :P

1:41 AM
well I killed it. no corpse though

@DestructibleLemon Isnt there a nethack room?

@HelkaHomba aspect ratios?

@ConorO'Brien no, not close (the colons aren't special, could have used -> or f(0) = 4, f(3) = 6 etc.)

0:4 would be a pretty terrible aspect ratio

@HelkaHomba oh ok
@Geobits that's how I read text messages :P

1:47 AM
Is it a count of pixels in each row for a certain character?

@Geobits closer

I give. Flipping back and forth looking at font page and this on mobile just sucks too much

Hint: ONE TWO THREE

It seems to be WordLength+1, but NINE and ZERO would equal five in that case...

close

2:00 AM
I have no idea.

@Mendeleev I think it's frozen

@DestructibleLemon ehh
ping @Dennis to unfreeze the nethack room

I can also unfreeze it, 1 sec

@Mendeleev you just did :P

@DestructibleLemon ok

2:02 AM
@HelkaHomba was it length in px for each char?
i.e. 0 is 5 px wide
no, that doesn't make much sense

@Riker Simpler than that. It may help to cover part of your screen

hm
@HelkaHomba btw, does it also work with inconsolata?

Is anyone in hear good at python regex?

yes, why?

Because I'm stuck, lol

2:06 AM
Pixels in the top row of each number spelled out
Wait, no

@DJMcMayhem with?

@Riker I want to make re.findall("<c-.>|<ctrl-.>", string) more golfy, but when I do re.findall("<c(trl?)-.>", string) it doesn't work right.

that matches tr and then l not greedy

I also tried re.findall("<c(trl)?-.>", string)

hm
try ?: at front of the group
(?:trl)
no ending ?

2:09 AM

?
oh, consolata stuff
*consolas

final clue

@DJMcMayhem does that work?

@Riker That's close, but it doesn't match <C-.>, only <ctrl-.>

swap c for [Cc]

2:11 AM
I kept thinking about htat, but I wasn't sure.

that's because of case sens

@Riker Sorry, I should have mentioned, I'm using re.IGNORECASE

ah ok
hm
@DJMcMayhem can you match <ctrltrl-a>?
i.e. multiple trl

I'm really bad at non-vim regexes, lol
@Riker No, it must be 0 or 1 trl

what about re.findall("<c(trl)*{1}-.>", string)

2:13 AM
does ^ work?

@ConorO'Brien Haha! Yes it does, thanks!

CMC: Given N, output the first N elements of the sequence (2, 1, 4, 3, 6, 5, 8, 7, ...)

how'd you know? You don't python

I know regex
and a little bit of python, but that didn't help here

2:15 AM
I know enough Python to Freestyle it for GIMP.
And I also know that 1Tab == 8Spaces, for whatever heretical reason.

OK, weirder question. Is it possible to make the result of one match lowercased, but a different match to be the same?

elaborate?

I don't know how to, haha
Uhm....

by example, perhaps

GitGoat now supports GitHub showcases
(you can swipe on that to see more)

2:18 AM
@ConorO'Brien So re.findall("(<lower>\d\a)|\a", "0A1bgG") would give ['0a', '1b', 'g, 'G']
Sorry if that's a weird use case, haha

what is \a? is that python specific?

Alphabetical.

Yeah, [a-zA-Z]

So [a-zA-Z] shorthand- Ninja'd

I don't even know if that's valid in python, like I said I'm more familiar with vim

2:19 AM
I don't think that's valid python lol

Wait, can you even do those escapes in Python?

(promotion: you can in stacked, ish)

Surely; "(<lower>\\d\\a)|\\a" is more valid.
(You can do it in RProgN too)

or r"..."

Oh yeah, good point, haha

2:21 AM
I'd like to think Stacked and RProgN has a cute little rivalry going on.

regex aren't precisely for transformations
@ATaco same
like jolf and V lol

Except that Jolf is actually OK at math, haha

But slightly lesser known.

@DJMcMayhem haha true

Oh my gosh, I need to make a Strawpoll onebox Userscript.

2:22 AM
Life protip: don't accidentally get shampoo in yur eyes
It hurts

Thanks

(Literally typing this with one hand right now)

@LegionMammal978 I once accidentally got Sour Patch kids dust in my eye

@DJMcMayhem NOPEs right on out
Wait, dust?

I also got the glowy green stuff from glow-sticks in my eye once. That was much worse

2:24 AM
@ATaco :9+~>2#<$revflatmap\#, Stacked

@LegionMammal978 Yeah, like the sour part

@DJMcMayhem I can imagine

I once got a keyboard key on my eye, as long as it's storytime

Meanwhile, it hurts to take my hand off my right eye rn

@DJMcMayhem did you died

2:25 AM
No, but I cried

@LegionMammal978 post that to reddit
I dare you

I was also like 8, so that might have had something to do with it

crying is probably best as it gets the fluid out

Protip: typing with only the left hand is hard

no it isn't

2:27 AM
I mean it's inconvenient but not hard

yes I typed that with my left hand, this too

I wonder what my WPM is with just my left

@DJMcMayhem Sometimes, I suspect that small children have built-in painkillers

I meant that typing this way just takes longer

2:28 AM
@LegionMammal978 well, they obviously don't, I mean they whinge a lot more about injury than anyone else

Typing 'Power' in my start menu, just now for the first time ever, opened PowerShell and not PowerPoint.

@LegionMammal978 My brother once ran into a bush and got a twig lodged in his eye.

34 wpm with left hand lol

@DJMcMayhem did he died

No, but he cried.

2:30 AM
One time I got a small piece of wood or something lodged in my skin I think

@DJMcMayhem Once a blood vessel on my eye made contact with my eyelid and it hurt and I was confused

@LegionMammal978 owie
did you blind?

No, just felt like a line of soreness going across
This was below my eyelid
And I have a small graphite spot on my right middle finger from accidentally stabbing myself with a pencil once
And right next to that is a minuscule scar from when a blood vessel internally burst when I got that finger caught between two gears in a STEM class
I only have three other scars, one on my left knee from Halloween 2012 and another on my chin from when I was little

@DJMcMayhem I got that once

I have scars all over, mainly from skinning my knees and elbows really bad multiple times.

2:38 AM
I glowed that night
it was at summer camp, some jerk broke a glow stick to prove his "strength"
@PhiNotPi ouch
@DestructibleLemon called a splinter

On a completely unrelated topic, I now have a userscript that One-boxes Strawpolls

I never have small accidents.
I only have mojor, ER-type accidents.
@ATaco URL pls?

Rather simple, may accidentally one-box them if starred.

I'd love some feedback on my upcoming chess challenge

2:49 AM
Can confirm, works.
> Goes to library to get a book on OpenGL
> Leave library with books on Prolog, F#, Erlang, Ruby, C++, CUDA, and ARM Assembly
> Local library system has no books on OpenGL
> Am now sitting in front of computer in bewilderment wondering how I got into this situation
> And who thought F# was a good idea?

@NathanMerrill tags?

@MistahFiggins erm, not sure. I'll think about it when I post it

@HelkaHomba The answer was to count the portions of letters that reach the top of the font for the number written in all caps (in English in a font like consolas)
Woah. Chess.se has a fancy chess replay thing chess.stackexchange.com/a/17016/12866
And has had it for 4 years
Seems like a byte counter wouldn't be out of the question for us >.>

3:06 AM
@ГригорийПерельман 1. The Red Book is available online 2. ML-family languages are amazing stop talking smack

The Red Book?
ML-family?
I haven't actually had time to read any of the books yet, all I know about F# comes from reading the wikipedia article.
Ok, so wikipedia lists a lot of ML-family langs.
Soom of them are cool, others are weird. F# is scary.

3:22 AM
Hey, there is actually a deadline-less bounty that has "decayed"
Should I somehow notify the offerer?

which one? that link only goes to the question

Are there any V/vim users in here right now?
I'm thinking about new features

CMC: Output the Nth AntiPrime

@Downgoat so... are there any other synchronous readline solutions for node that don't require VS?

@ConorO'Brien none that work properly
you should only need C++ toolchain

3:28 AM
would the people who installed my thing need it?

yea :/
I mean not necessarially
you could pre-compile it for most targets

wait I may have just found a gem

@DJMcMayhem Are arrow keys, randomness implemented yet_

Aha! That's what I was going to add!
I knew I was talking to someone about that, but I couldn't remember who

3:34 AM
@ConorO'Brien doesn't support stuff like arrow keys

at least it reads from stdin ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

also doesn't support things like password input

do you know how to detect if stdin is "empty"?

Yay, the Big 50!
8
man, if only we could golf a single byte
it would be perfect

@MistahFiggins that's really cool

3:47 AM
@MistahFiggins that's 50, not 50! .
50! would have been much more impressive

yeah, we're nowhere near 3.0414093e+64
Too late to edit, but oh well. It happens when you try to express numbers with enthusiasm
:P

we've passed 4! already. The next milestone is 5! .

That's still a ways off

We can hope

What are you all talking about?

3:52 AM
About the big 50 .

See link above

I thought we were talking about the big 50!

I did not notice that was a link.

I'm surprised it got to 4!. After all, that was right after I added Hexagony...

I'm pretty sure it's hex-agony, not hexagon-y.

3:54 AM
I just pronounce it Hex-ag-ony. Which is closest to Hex-agony.

^
hexágony

I have just now realized I don't know how to pronounce 99% of programming things as I never say them IRL >_>

How do you propose one pronounces RProgN?

yeah, it happens a lot when you read too
@ATaco "Arr-prog-enn"

^ yeah same

3:56 AM
One does not simply pronounce RProgN.

I pronounce it that way too...

how do people pronounce "Del|m|t"? I'm assuming it's mostly "delimit"

For me, I generally just skim over it as "Del Mit".

it is fewer syllables

3:58 AM
How does one pronounce "Progn"?
Like "Progen"?

Hmm, that's interesting.

It's harder to do it out loud thatn to say it in my head.

agreed

The N was intentionally capitalized, because it's a sort of bastardy abbreviation of "Reverse Programmer(s?) Notation"
I'm inconsistent on the S, and RPN just looks like Reverse Polish Notation.
