@ChristopherPeart I'm certainly not! I think it looks awesome and a darker/grittier wolverine sounds really good

Guys I'm really proud of my latest sandbox post. Please do take a read through it when it pops up.
It is... beefy.

lemme guess--calculus?

@ConorO'Brien Nope. Number theory and base conversion wizardry.

@ConorO'Brien V, two bytes: Íá

@DJMcMayhem ew builtins

That's not a built-in
V is just really good at that kind of thing

that probably goes something like "remove" "alphabetic"

12:27 AM
Let me guess: remove all of ... ^

</ninja>

Close! It's actually "substitute" instead of remove, but since the substitution is empty it's effectively "remove"
Whereas Íá/foo is substitute all alphabetic characters with "foo"

@ConorO'Brien Go read my wizardry! :D

the title scares me but ok

@DJMcMayhem / means "with"?

12:29 AM
I think it's a regex thingy

RprogN, 7 bytes. `%a ` R

alphabet, empty string, replace?

Yep.

ok now I have no idea how it works

`%a is the string "%a" which matches [a-zA-Z], the ` is a blank string, R is replace.
The previous version was technically invalid, because I didn't have a ZSS to sepearte them.

12:31 AM
@VoteToClose More or less. It's a regex boundary, so what comes after the slash could mean several different things depending on the command

@VoteToClose that's awesome. is it in OEIS?
kik

I bet retina also has a two byter, and maybe one or two other golfing languages

@ConorO'Brien Nope. Neither will it be. There are infinitely many of these.

I can do it in 3.

My initial conditions, if I used, say, 1, 1, 2, would be an entirely different sequence.

12:32 AM
ah

Wait, that didn't work...

@VoteToClose Your wizardry where?

so you say "Take this binary number and convert it into the base of the original number"--for 63 you go from 0 0 0 1 0 1 1 0 to 0, 0, 0, 1, 1, 0, 1--is this a typo?

OoOoO, Subtracing strings by a pattern is a great idea.
I need to make an update.

12:39 AM
@orlp How do I name things for submission to OEIS?
It's really hard :(
@ConorO'Brien This is sufficiently clear, right?

Now it's just `%a -

@VoteToClose because of brown's condition? I'd call it the tribobinacci
@VoteToClose it seems such

@ConorO'Brien lol, but it's not the only tribonacci sequence that works.

inilineatribobinacci

Okay, I've got the only three initial conditions for the tribonacci sequence which adhere to Brown's Condition: [1, 1, 1], [1, 1, 2], [1, 2, 3].
All three are different resulting sequences for every term (no alike terms).
Interestingly, they all approach the same ratio between values.
I wouldn't even know how to make a program to do this in excel. xD

1:00 AM
Excel is shockingly powerful.

The sequence made by the function described in the challenge is disturbingly close to A143028, but if you add a few more terms it diverges.

1:20 AM
I submitted an application to join OEIS. :D

nice! what does it look like? I've been meaning to do that myself

Q: How could the search bar's placeholder text be improved?

DennisOne of the more popular suggestions from We're not a Q&A site. But what should be done about it? was to change the search bar's placeholder text. We've been asked to flesh this out in a separate feature request so that SE can look into whether they'll make these changes for us. So you don't have...

hmm, there have been a bunch of meta posts by diamond moderators splitting out parts of the "we're not a Q&A site" post recently
I have a feeling this is connected to something

I know the truth.
PPCG never really graduated.
It was staged.

to be fair, the site works pretty much just as well whether it's graduated or not

But if the moderators have lied to us about this, what else might they be lying about?

tbh you're the only person to exist, we're all just figments of your imagination

3:32 AM
@NewMetaPosts For the record, Puzzling has not changed their search bar text.
And they have a very similar format to ours

PavelPyramid Scheme is a language being developed by @ConorO'Brien. In Pyramid Scheme, the code that you write looks like this: ^ ^ / \ /3\ / \ --- / + \ ^-------^ /9\ /3\ /123\ --- ----- Now, that code has two obvious qualities: It's difficult to ...

4:55 AM
@MistahFiggins why wouldn't we? :-D

That looks insanely difficult for V

Aww

@ais523 Hardly any answers get 40 so quickly, let alone answer chaining ones

I wouldn't call it "quickly"
it's been going two months now

Yeah, I guess so.

4:58 AM
when it gets to about ten days old, I start looking for a language myself to keep things going
if I ever get stuck (or have the most recent answer), I'll need to ping someone else for help (I think Sp3000 offered a while back), but so far Chance has been good about filling in gaps :-)

Chance is new, right?

yes, joined for that challenge I think

With brain-flak?

@DJMcMayhem so I tried your Vim submission to the polyglot challenge locally, it yielded 2i

btw, it was a different challenge (the movie quotes one) that alerted me to the potential of this site
although obviously I didn't join immediately

5:01 AM
Specificaly, pressing p inserted the i, and nothing removed it.

Ah, yes that makes sense

we've been mostly trying to test in V, but it's too slow
so we changed the test driver to ignore everything before the first ESC, on the basis that we delete everything at that point anyway

p pastes whatever is left in it from the last time it's been run, but testing vim requires clearing out the registers to prevent the side-effects

Ah.

@Pavel Try testing it with vim -i NONE

5:03 AM
How come the i in print doesn't enter insert mode?

because it's right after the r
So the commands are parsed as ['p', 'ri', 'n', 't(', '1)', '#', 'i', '2']
Luckily all of those are NOOPs with an empty buffer/unnamed register

They are a lot of "How could ____ be improved" questions recently by mods... is this a sign we're getting design soon? :O
@mods please share secret

Does @mods actually ping anyone?

@Downgoat But we did graduate
@DJMcMayhem Don't think so

@DJMcMayhem no
but from my experience it generally magically summons mods

5:12 AM
I assume it pings mods, whoever he or she is
except that mods would need to have posted here at least once to be pingable

You know what else magically summons mods?
Flags
:P

@Downgoat hi

FLAGS! FLAGS EVERYWHERE!
Now watch it magically work!

I guess It doesn''t work if they aren't real

5:14 AM
@Doorknob So.... are we getting a design soon?

@Doorknob have you been notified of us potentially getting a design soon?
Oh sorry ninjad

@NewMainPosts One of the few cases where too broad is actually appropriate

Sandbox link really should be bundled with a close notification. It's applicable in 99% of cases.

We should have a bot to automatically close questions that explicitly exhort answerers to "be creative".

I feel that would get a fair amount of false positives

5:19 AM
@feersum That wouldn't be relevant if the site design is green - nothing could be creative

There is no site design. Graduation was faked.
It was also faxed though.

I prefer to think it was faxed

All the graduations are rigged against us... Sad!

6:30 AM
one time I was playing town of salem as an exe. my target claimed vig, but I said I saw him shoot someone first round, contradicting his claim as that player was killed by maf. one of the players came up with this gem as incriminating me:
> Vig can't shoot first round
:/

So you died?

Anonymous
@DestructibleWatermelon That's actually a pretty common rule in mafia variants. Often, "night 0" can only have kills come from mafia.

Anonymous
But vig can and should shoot as often as possible

but it makes no sense

Anonymous
6:34 AM
Unless there's a really good reason not to

I claimed he wasn't a vig because he killed someone the mafia killed

@Mego No, you're most likely to shoot town if you're guessing.

read it a bit closer

Anonymous
Some mafia variants allow vig and mafia to kill the same person, which reports it as a mafia kill

then I would have been saying he was maf
since vig can't shoot first round

6:35 AM
In ToS, it reports everyone who kills someone in a night.

either way, it makes no sense in the context of me accusing him of not being vig

"Foo was killed by the mafia. He was also shot by a vigilante."

It's the equivalent of the ontological argument

*Googles ontological argument*

1) I accused someone of not being vig, but mafia 2) I said they shot someone first night 3) apparently that can't happen because vig can't shoot first night
logic bomb
@Pavel basically: "god exists because it'd be nice if god existed"

6:39 AM
Somethig something "God is the best possible being, and a being that exists is better than a being which does not"?

yeah, but its just what I said phrased differently

I know these arguments, I never remember what they're called.
And I only know of them from SMBC

wikipedia is a great boon to society
probably should donate, but I don't actually have the means to yet
they should make wikipedia merch

I think they do?

oh no the store is closed! D:

Yep, RIP wikipedia merch
Apparantly you can buy textbooks of wikipedia contents.

I wish SMBC was searchable properly. I always think Relevant SMBC! and then can't actually find the relevant SMBC.

What other functions can I put in my lang thing that work as both prefix and postfix?
So far I have ! and -

What is - as postfix?

5-- = 4

6:49 AM

Anonymous
@Pavel I slightly misspoke: vig should shoot except in 2m2t situations: i.imgur.com/SlAJ1Ot.png

It spins off of zyabin's idea but I want to make it as "simple" as possible

@Mego ToS starts with 15 players.

@Mego Wait are you guys working out optimal Mafia strategies?

Anonymous
So 5m10t?

Anonymous
6:50 AM
Well, 5 non-town-aligned and 10 town-aligned?

3 mafia, 1 serial killer, 2 neutral evil, 9 town in standard iirc

Does anyone have any prefix/postfix functions?

Anonymous
So 3 non-town kills per night. Vig should absolutely shoot as often as possible.

@Qwerp-Derp Bitwise not

Yeah that's !

6:52 AM
That's logical not

Anonymous
If they don't hit a non-town, they can probably force one into a cross-claim for a kill

!5 is bitwise not on 5

1 mafia kill 1 serial killer kill

So that equals -6 iirc

Anonymous
The neutral evils don't have kills?

6:53 AM
The Jester's job is that he is trying to get lynched

I have a feeling Mego is intentionally ignoring my questions :(

The executioner has a town target that he is trying to get lynched

Anonymous
Is Jester a softwin (meaning the game goes on if the Jester gets lynched)?

Yeah

Anonymous
Same question with executioner

6:54 AM
But jester gets to kill someone who voted guilty for him
Everyone has a role, no one is just standard town
SK, GodFather, Executioner, Doctor target, Jailor target are all immune at night.
Escort target can't make actions
Retrebutionist can ressurect someone once.

Anonymous
Sure, but even if people aren't VT, it's still worth shooting. At worst, vig kills a useful role that probably would've gotten killed by mafia anyway. At best, vig kills a non-town player. Oftentimes, vig can prove themselves innocent via their kills.

Anonymous
I should probably just make an account on ToS and play

Anonymous
It's been ages since I've played a good mafia game

Yes, let's play together!
The roles are pretty complicated compared to other mafia games.

Anonymous
I'll make an account in a moment

6:56 AM
EpicMafia is probably better

Anonymous
@Pavel I've played some of the most insane variants of mafia. I'm not scared :P

Alright then!

So no one has any operators for me? :(

I'm thinking m8

But you're playing Mafia with Mego on ToS (which is inferior to EpicMafia)

I used to play mafia over IRC. That was fun.

What do people think of challenges that just involve implementing games?

I'm just giving some of them away

Even I cannot handle all of them

also, I had an idea for a challenge that involves checking whether a board could be chess and if it could be Arimaa

Question for the SE experts: if you give a bounty to an answer, then that answer is deleted, do they still get the rep from the bounty or does it get taken back?

Why didnt anyone ask about 1337ifying a string

Anonymous
@Fatalize They get the rep

Thats a totally simple question and is great for this place, isnt it?

Anonymous
The only way you can get the rep from a bounty back is if a mod cancels it

9:53 AM
Speaking of bounties, the worst mistake on getting 75 rep is giving 50 rep
By the way, why did literally noone ask about 1337ifying a string?
Well, anyways, I wanted to ask this, can hyperlinks contain javascript bookmarklets?
