Looks like a comment killer is loose hides knife behind back

I know who it is – it's...

Happy new year to UTC+1
And a belated one to all the time zones that already had it

@Zacharý So to UTC+≥1 ?

Yep

New Year's is old news.
It happened 12 hours ago.
Get with the times.

11:09 PM
lol

Why is Iceland UTC ?!

@Zacharý Because that's the only sensible TZ. (year round 2×daylight saving)

If you think that's bad, the entirety of China (officially) uses the time zone of the east coast.

@EsolangingFruit And what percentage of the population lives there?

East coast of china

Iceland is entirely outside of UTC, and so are EVERY OTHER NORDIC COUNTRY

@Adám So, a lot, but still not enough to justify THE ENTIRE COUNTRY being in that time zone

@Zacharý Eh, yes, but the other Nordic countries are on UTC+1.
@EsolangingFruit Yes it is. Much easier to coordinate things.

entirely outside

@Adám Well, if you take that to the logical extreme, we should all use UTC.

11:13 PM
It is logical for China, now if RUSSIA did that ... that'd be insanity

1 hour ago, by Adám
@ConorO'Brien Right. Although I do believe it would be possible (hard, but worthwhile) switch to a single time-zone globally.

I think it'd be great if everyone had the same timezone, but only if that timezone was my current timezone.

I think it'd be great if everyone had the same language, but only if that language was my current language (English).

As long as no one speaks Pirahã, I'll be happy with any linguistic diversity of current language

@Zacharý I hate English.
I would stop using it if not for its convenience.
Stupid, stupid language.

11:20 PM
I like English :-|

English is fine.
Better than Danish
And Ubykh
(The languages with the most vowels and consonants, respectively)

@NewMainPosts looks at the commentsshouts: Every syllabe must contain at least 1 vowel in English :/

Well ... not exactly
Some dialects have syllablic consonants at the end of words.

@Zacharý I want a counter-example

Bottle.

11:25 PM
@Mr.Xcoder "Doesn't"?

That works too
But English has some weirder stuff

How about "nth"? Idk if that counts

angsts

Huh? How is there no vowel in either of those?
Googling agrees (point 2)

nth ... you can hear it as en-th

11:26 PM
@Mr.Xcoder But this isn't regular English. It's my own special flavor of English that I use in my challenges, called "Easy-to-define-for-code-golfing-challenges-English"

@LyricLy I wasn’t reffering to the challenge itself, no offense :P

There are words with no consonants, like iouea (iirc it's the name of a genus)

Easy-to-define-for-code-golfing-challenges-English, or Code-English for short, is a very versatile language.
I used it in my challenge "Is it a strong word?" where I explained the concept of a strong word in Code-English and asked PPCG users to create programs to identify such words.

Q: How is y’all’dn’t’ve pronounced

AdámAccording to Wikipedia, y’all’dn’t’ve is a valid contraction. I am having difficulty pronouncing the L-D-N-T-V consonant cluster, especially since there is no vowel at the end (silent E). Y’all’dn’t’ve any advice or audio samples would you?

@LyricLy If you're looking for a easily parsable language, consider a subset of Lojban

11:29 PM
@Zacharý The phonetic translation of that is /enθ/, so I don’t see how there isn’t any vowel

@Mr.Xcoder So are you going by "vowel sounds" or "vowel letters"?

sounds

Wikipedia says "wyrm" has neither vowel sounds nor vowel letters.

That's up to debate since some consider y a vowel, but I see your point.

And the challenge that sparked this debate considers y a vowel, since y is always a vowel in Code-English.

11:39 PM
Almost midnight here. I should head to bed.

@Adám You're not going to stay up for new years?

heh you'll be waken up by the fireworks

Happy new year fellow Germans.

I suppose you can always change your clock tomorrow and pretend you're having New Years.

Happy new year, @mınxomaτ (here too)

11:40 PM
@EsolangingFruit It isn't new year for me.

@Adám Fair enough.

Judging from the number of car alarms outside, this is also the ROI day for the rent on my underground parking space.

It's way past midnight (2 AM), while I am in TNB watching fireworks through the window :P

Here is a riddle for you all: It is almost midnight here. I'm ready to go to bed, now that I've successfully guided my wife through the celebrating, 12'o'clock-fireworks-shooting crowds, and back to safety. Explain.

I don't understand how that's a riddle.
Were you riding on the fireworks or something?

11:44 PM
@Adám It is almost midnight here + I've successfully guided ... through ... 12'o'clock-fireworks-shooting crowds huh?

@EsolangingFruit ^

@Adám You were in Germany, where you guided your wife through the crowd, then swiftly flied to Denmark :P

A good decision :D

@Mr.Xcoder Close, but Germany and Denmark are in in the same TZ.

@Adám Ah... Then it should be past midnight in Denmark too (?).

11:48 PM
@Mr.Xcoder That's what I was saying, I forgot to indicate that I expressed doubt tho that response
@EsolangingFruit Or esperanto with modifications
Only a few minutes till UTC new year

9 minutes to go

(And end of the 2017 code golf competition)
(For Dyalog, IIRC_

My wife was at Copenhagen City Hall Plaza at 12'o'clock UTC+1, an area I know really well. I'm in London UTC guiding her using Google phone tracking.

ಠ_ಠ

Judging the state of the starboard, I'm guessing there's a secret hat for getting stars about now

11:53 PM
Yep

remembers how well that went last time

It's only one day this time, not an entire winter bash
@EsolangingFruit Currently I am trying to Lojban

@Pavel are you trying to tell me, "your face is on TIO"?

I smell intense starbait around here :c

Happy early UTC new year
GTG

11:57 PM
\o

UTC new year is best new year

Is it because it's the one I'm in?
hang on, that logic doesn't work

no, it's because time zones are bullshit

that would be it
