@AlexA. Or if you're somehow running DOS 1.0, or trying to execute something via a command prompt and run into a syntax issue (e.g., cd /temp vs cd ./temp) on some flavors

> Or if you're somehow running DOS 1.0
lel

Well, seeing as how it didn't really have hierarchical directories, I guess the concept of a path separator is kinda meaningless

My mom is the worst.

My mom is pretty great

^ agreed

6:22 PM
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Pretty sure she's not the worst.
@Fatalize o_o do you know @AlexA.'s mom?

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I thought everyone knew Alex's mom.
Mar 11 at 21:41, by Alex A.
@EasterlyIrk Idk, I like my mom and she makes cookies. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Should I get some chocolate and caramel ice cream or not?

Man, now I want a cookie.

@flawr I think you already know the answer in your heart

6:28 PM
What kind of cookie?
@AlexA. The bad thing is, it is contradicting the answer in my brain.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@flawr There's a vendor in the building next door called "The Original Cookie Company" run by like this 70 year old man. Chocolate chip cookie with almond frosting and sprinkles.

He is the first man ever to make cookies

@VTCAKAVSMoACE if you're paranoid you could just use sun.misc.URLClassPath

@TimmyD OMG, how cool is that!

6:31 PM
i think that does what you want, anyway

I don't think I want any ice cream now.
I want a cookie too.

or java.net.URLClassLoader

Ugh. This software application doesn't have an API, so I'm sitting here manually copy-pasting ~300 email addresses one at a time and hitting the Submit button after each one. :-/
whhhyyyyy
This is what interns are for.
On an unrelated note, does anyone want to be an intern?

s/interns/macros

@TimmyD What area?

6:36 PM
@flawr Minnesota, USA
@FryAmTheEggman It's a Flash GUI

@TimmyD I mean what field?

Oh. General IT.

You could make a macro that simulates your mouse moving, etc. Various video game farming macros work like that

@flawr What... is that?

Hah, but then I couldn't easily alt-tab to 19B when waiting the 20-some seconds for the process to complete and the form to reset.

6:38 PM
@AlexA. Something... delicious!!

@AlexA. Looks like fried ice cream on top of a cookie.

You could run it on a VM? ;)

It looks like potato chips glued together and stuck in mud

@TimmyD Basically almond pieces with candied fruits baked in some caramel dipped in chocolate.

Aww
I was very wrong.
Fried ice cream is delicious, though.

6:41 PM
@TimmyD How does that even work???

@flawr You super-cool the ice cream. Like, -20 or -30 instead of 0. Coat it in (usually) cornflakes, and briefly deep fry it.
Drizzle with honey or chocolate sauce.

Ok I want that now.

I would imagine it's probably not very popular in Europe.

I've never heard of that or seen it.

Fried ice cream is a dessert made from a breaded scoop of ice cream that is quickly deep-fried creating a warm, crispy shell around the still-cold ice cream. There are conflicting stories about the dessert's origin. Some claim that it was first served during the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, where the ice cream sundae was also invented. Though in 1894 a Philadelphia company was given credit for its invention describing : "A small, solid cake of the [ice] cream is enveloped in a thin sheet of pie crust and then dipped into boiling lard or butter to cook the outside to a crisp. Served immediately, the...

6:44 PM
Yeah I just googled it.
PS: Caracs

OK, that looks pretty good but I have no idea what it is.

I don't now either but it is sweet as fu*ck.

^ effective censoring

The brown thing is chocolatey goey stuff, almost like really goey brownies.
And the top is sugary marcipany stuff.
@Fatalize It's a compromise for those who do not like swear words.
Do you guys know toblerone?

Somehow, it seems difficult to believe that anyone who dislikes swearing would approve of that ;)

6:49 PM
^^ who doesn't

Well I just noticed yesterday that now they have coconut-toblerone!!

@flawr It's decently popular in the US

@Fatalize Do you consider f*** as more effective anyway?

@flawr I don't consider fuck as a swear word

I don't understand the censoring of swears

6:57 PM
@VTCAKAVSMoACE You can just use File.separator if you're concerned

Like, people still know what you mean.
And you're still taking a word as an interjection, or in vain, or the like.
So ...

That is why I think it is so hillarious=)

@TimmyD I think they're more worried about young children picking up on it

@TimmyD Young kids don't, necessarily

But in this day and age...

6:57 PM
Because they do not know those words, right???

And so then you treat it as this "special" word, with magical properties, and the cycle continues.

And if we censor them, the will also never learn them.
But apparently even here in TNB some people get offended.

Huh, now that's interesting. I've always abbreviated this place as 19B.

Right, this is even shorter than 152b.

I was trying to find what building this is in but Google reverse image search thinks it's a swimming pool ._.

7:00 PM
I don't blame it
Doesn't help that it's from a fish-eye perspective

@HelkaHomba UN human rights council?

@HelkaHomba It's in the name of the jpg?

Yeah, I found it

@HelkaHomba It's in the Human Rights and Alliance of Civilizations Room.

@HelkaHomba Isn't it a swimming pool?

7:03 PM
@TimmyD I like the games and sites that have optional filters. That way some people can have them turned on, and some people can keep them turned off. Everyone is happy, except for the folks that hate stars.

@Rainbolt You could make the censor character customizable perhaps

@Rainbolt Sure, but I just don't understand the meta behind them. Like, saying "darn" instead of "damn" is somehow OK.

@Rainbolt choose

@TimmyD Don't think about it like "Darn is acceptable, but damn is offensive." Think of it like "Darn is less offensive than damn."

@AlexA. It looks painful to jump into, it's all spiky.

7:05 PM
lol is damn offensive?
wtf

mdr

@Fatalize sure, to some

@Fatalize That's the opposite of what I just said...

@AlexA. ಠ_ಠ
@Rainbolt "darn is less offensive than damn" implies that damn is offensive

No, it actually doesn't

7:06 PM
@Fatalize Tu veux manger les enfants??

"1 is less than 2" doesn't imply that 2 is a large number

@AlexA. mdr = meurs de rire?

@AlexA. wtf

I dunno ... I mean, there's an infinite number of numbers smaller than 2 ...

@Rainbolt that argument doesn't make any sense

7:07 PM
@flawr m = mort

1 is less positive than 2 implies 2 is positive

Otherwise yes

That's because positive is binary, and so if you aren't one, you must be the other. You just don't understand the difference between "large" and "larger". I can't help you there.

You can't be less offensive than something not offensive

They teach "good better best" in like first grade

7:08 PM
@Fatalize C'est ne vrai pas? :(

makes no sense

@Fatalize That is not quite true, if you consider a very small 2.

@AlexA. incorrect grammar

@Geobits I wasn't accusing. :P

Two is the largest number I can count two

7:09 PM
@AlexA. mmm des enfants sont délicieux

^ now on a list

oh no shit

You mean s***

@Fatalize Oh, ce n'est pas vrai?

:p

7:10 PM
@TimmyD sock

@AlexA. correct grammar

@AlexA. **ck

XD

Although I don't think you know Fatalize well enough to refer to him with "tu".... unless...

I do
We've bonded
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

7:11 PM
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Like oxygen and magnesium ... OMG

@TimmyD Better pun than AlexA.'s one

@quartata usually people use tu for people on the Internet they don't know

@Fatalize I know. /joke

@Fatalize They do?

7:11 PM
Although I usually use vous anyways because I'm so stuffy and formal

@flawr yes

I was just trying to get Alex to lenny

@Fatalize Strangely in games I only observed vous being used.

@flawr what game? Sure they weren't using the plural vous?

Fun fact: "thou" is actually a familiar "you" in ye olde English

7:14 PM
@Fatalize No they were actually using the singular vous.
Tremulous

@quartata Ugh, please don't use "ye"

@TimmyD ye cannot stop me

yee

we can also uze ze z instead of ze theee.

@AlexA. haw

7:15 PM
English should have thou/thy/thine/ and you/ye/your separated

@Rainbolt You've been relegated to reversed

It's a mischaracterization of the thorn

@HelkaHomba I didn't see him choose.

@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 right, he didn't respond

7:32 PM
Hmm, I leave for 2 hours, and this chatroom becomes the official chatroom for the grammar SE

Programming Grammar & Code Golf

@HelkaHomba What does that mean?

@TimmyD Don't mention programming grammar and code golf in the same sequence

I need to go find where you asked me to choose. I accidentally ignored you and I meant to click the link

7:34 PM
@Bálint Why not? We've had challenges to make small interpreters.

29 mins ago, by Helka Homba
@Rainbolt choose

Can I be as? It's the only keyword left

fine

@TimmyD Because if the SE's name contains "programming grammar", then that means, that SE is about making your grammar better, and that's definitely not what we're doing here

@Sp3000 Will you ever have exactly half the rep of Dennis?

7:36 PM
@HelkaHomba You should make it a requirement that all keywords in whatever language you are inventing (People's Python?) begin with the @ symbol
6
That'll make it fun to talk about in here

mmmm, no

@you "Hello world!"

But.... but... it will make people regret their greed in choosing the most popular keyword!

I didn't choose the most popular. I chose the longest.
Because PowerShell
It's long

@Rainbolt obrien pickle rainbolt p is now valid syntax

7:39 PM
Are any of you playing Overwatch?

Imagine if the spec automagically updated whenever someone updated their PPCG display name.

@gcampbell you choose too

@HelkaHomba Can I have eval?
I'm evil #_#

yes

But you'll shift muddy.

7:42 PM
@Rainbolt My girlfriend plays it a lot.

Your girlfriend probably killed me. I am not very good yet.

\o/ I just broke 1k on my third SE site.

Congrats!
@Rainbolt Haha she isn't playing at the moment.

@AlexA. Does she play more games than you? It seems that way.

Yes, much more.
I don't play games that often.

7:47 PM
So what do you do while she's gaming?

@HelkaHomba Doing for i in range(x) will be painful

@TimmyD her ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Alex prefers the vastly superior pastime of golf

Because the wife and I usually play games at the same time, even if we're not playing the same game.

peter i taylor drgreenegsandhamdj(x)

7:48 PM
@Fatalize ( ͡° ᴥ ͡°)

@Bálint I love how ridiculous the range function is.

or is
and if and in

I think while is shorter atm: i=0;molarmanful i<x;i+=1

The names should be chosen by first making a numbered list of keywords based on how much you use it, then join it with the array of the names ordered by length in descending order

@Bálint No such function drgreenegsandhamdj.

7:51 PM
@zʏᴀʙiɴ101 Proves my point

@Bálint I don't think the point is to be competitive in golfing. Personally I would prefer if answers in this language were often different from Python ones because the lengths of these keywords were different.

@TimmyD I've been contributing to Julia quite a bit lately, working on homework for my master's program, hanging out in here with you people, laying down the law on SE, etc.

Oh, masters ... yeah, that's a solid chunk of time

Part time though
But that plus work is definitely chunky

Update: I have made it half way

7:53 PM
@FryAmTheEggman There are 2 things, wich matter the most by programming languages, 1.: It needs to be fun to use (this is why prototypal languages mainly failed), and 2.: It needs to be maintainable (this is not a problem, as it's based on python)

Ugh. This software application doesn't have an API, so I'm sitting here manually copy-pasting ~300 email addresses one at a time and hitting the Submit button after each one. :-/

@TimmyD Still time to create a macro... ;)

heh

@TimmyD Do you press enter or click the button to submit?

@Bálint Neither of those apply to a lot of esolangs that PPCGers have created...

7:55 PM
@Rainbolt oh no please don't remind me that I do not have Overwatch

Or used, for that matter. I mean, Malbolge?

@gcampbell It's Flash based. So, ctrl-c it from the list, click into the box, ctrl-v, click submit, wait 10 seconds for it to process, click reset form, repeat.

@El'endiaStarman But this is not what we should use for golfing

@TimmyD Yay Flash!
Flash is better than zsh!

@Bálint Stack Cats?

7:57 PM
We use esolangs, because their short or give a challenge

@Bálint Golfing is fun (for varying degrees of fun) in any language.

Some people get different levels of enjoyment, too.
Like, I would wager that most people in this room would not want to golf in PowerShell.

Unless you get paid to do it.

I actually think I would enjoy golfing in any language. My problem is learning the language well enough to golf in it ;)

@TimmyD Or write anything in Powershell

8:00 PM
Hah.

Wow. I've been using www.draw.io for such a long time and I just found drive.draw.io. It's like... the same product with more features. Why would anyone ever use the regular one?

@Rainbolt Because flowcharts are amazing

Hey folks, has anyone around here messed with Jekyll/Github pages?

@BernardMeurer I used github pages

8:12 PM
@Bálint Would you mind me giving me a hand?

@BernardMeurer In what?

@Bálint I set up a GHPages website a while back, and it worked fine, but recently all of a sudden it hasn't been working at all and I have no clue what the heck is happening. Source, Site

TIL -- NetZero is still a thing

@BernardMeurer It's a resource issue
Try pressing F12 after it loaded in
meurer.xyz/assets/js/main.min.js simply doesn't exist

@Bálint What's weird is that locally it runs perfectly. I pressed F12 and I'm looking at Sources

8:18 PM
@BernardMeurer Have you checked, if the FTP transfer was succesful or not?

@Bálint It's hosted on Github

@BernardMeurer is it in the github repo?

@BernardMeurer Sorry, they exist, but they take too much time to download

I have an enum where each member has a priority. One of the members of the enum is NOT_SET which will leave certain things up to the discretion of the caller. I have a quick little function to compare two enums to determine which has lower priority. What should be done about the NOT_SET member? I'm leaning towards throwing an exception.

8:20 PM
@Poke Die silently

nooooo
>.<

Ah, I fixed it :)
I goofed on my URL configuration

@BernardMeurer claps

8:23 PM
@Poke I actually did this somewhere... let me find the code...

@Bálint Thanks! :p

@Rainbolt unrelated: you're iterating through your list 3 times

8:27 PM
@AlexA. what
Do you mean "slow loris" as in the animal

@Poke Yes, I know. And it still isn't slow enough

so it seems like you just return something other than your unknown state unless all elms are your unknown state

Q: Pseudo Factorial

Tony RuthThere is a rather curious number which shows up sometimes in math problems or riddles. The psuedofactorial(N) is the least-common-multiple of the numbers 1 through N. For instance psuedofactorial(7) = 3 * 4 * 5 * 7, which is the same as 7! except that 2 and 6 have been removed because they are c...

8:28 PM
@Poke Or unless the list is empty

yes

Looking at it again, I could probably cast all of the enums to int and take the min or max. But like I said... it isn't slow enough

why do you need it to be slow :S

Because some wise guy on the Internet said that if it is fast enough, don't bother optimizing
And I said slow enough, not slow

also i feel like that would rely on the definition order of the enums
which is kinda shitty

8:30 PM
@Poke In C# you can give your enums a value and not worry about definition order

still would be a pain to maintain assuming the ordinal you associate is arbitrary

You mean... if you introduce a new one that goes right in the middle, you need to shift all of the values (and that is a pain)?

mhm

My wisdom ends there lol
