AFAIR, you need to put them in the header for size/memory reasons.
(but it's been too long since C++)

hey does tryj.tk work for anyone?

It's down. One second I'll get you a mirror
older version I think
but it works

@zyabin101 I love how that has Dennis's old avatar

it's always geobit's fault... .-.

5:11 PM
Unless it's something to do with js. Then you can split the blame with downgoat.

\o/ I'm not instantly blamed for js!

Right. Both of you are ;)

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Correction: I'm not :D

@MarsUltor ohai!

5:12 PM
I'm sure I break JS the most, though

I thought just writing in js was considered breaking it?

@Geobits Yes

k, just checking.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ What? That actually happens to me
I don't consider bugfixing as writing JS

5:13 PM
@MarsUltor You spoke for the entirety of JS programmers.

Although 90% of the bugs are from badly-written code/me being stupid
The bad thing about JS is that it is so flexible/allows so much

Sorry, totally meta moment, but we're arguing/bashing/complaining about the ways symbols are arranged on a screen and how they do stuff. This is pretty trite stuff, guys.

Better than arguing about the meaning of some words printed in millenia-old books ;)

@MarsUltor If you can't handle the freedom, you can't handle it.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ The thing is, I think most people don't keep that in mind

5:16 PM
@QPaysTaxes Yes

Then their code breaks and they complain

@MarsUltor That's the problem of the programmer, not of the language.
@QPaysTaxes :(
are you going to be okay?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Yes, I know, so that means everyone complaining about JS = they don't know JS well enough

@MarsUltor Ah, yes, true
@QPaysTaxes :( good luck. I'll pray for you if that means anything.
I never said we should.

If "nobody knows the language well enough" is where you're putting the blame, allow me to redirect some of that to "the language is stupid". If it wasn't, people would know it better, considering how widely it's used.

5:18 PM
I was really rather joking, but that didn't translate well.
@QPaysTaxes (1) you added irrelevant. (2) see the message above that. (3) the internet is used for serious stuff.
XD til

Source? No offense, but that sounds totally made up :P

@QPaysTaxes That's two letters

"Hubert Grimset"
:|
Of all the comics XD

I got Etymology Man :)

@QPaysTaxes I knew that when I posted it :P

No wait I posted https...

@QPaysTaxes Fantastic

5:27 PM
@Geobits I got this which is related I suppose

@QPaysTaxes I'm... not a big fan... of that one :/

I'm bothered* less by that than by an unmatched asterisk.

5:30 PM
*not really
How hard is it to set up a blog on github.io?

Fixed

@ArtOfCode Can you make me a contributor? I'll still use pull requests but I want to be able to add labels and shit to issues

@quartata How do you add shit to issues?
:)

Print them out and use them as toilet paper

done

5:35 PM
@ArtOfCode Do you really want me to tell you?
@ArtOfCode kthx

@quartata maybe not

@ArtOfCode Add this character -> 💩

yup

ok prepare for a bomb of issues

heh

Q: Reverse a 1-dimensional array

Έρικ ΚωνσταντόπουλοςNote: This challenge is not the same. Challenge Believe it or not, we haven't got ONE challenge for reversing one-dimensional arrays (although we've got one for n-dimensional ones)! This should operate only on the 1st dimension, not on all dimensions of an array. Rules Standard loopholes are...

@NewMainPosts ...
@Dennis do we have a flat upend?

@quartata Fixed

-3 before the bot even picked up on it. Jeez.

@quartata Yes. It's R with dot below.

Can we get to -15? :P

5:52 PM
@Dennis Oh, cool.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ yes we can

Actually, I don't want to downvote this. I feel like 9 is enough for him to get the message.

This is my third downvote that still remains iirc

@ArtOfCode We should probably make another room for QPixel.

It could have been more interesting if no builtins were allowed.

5:54 PM
Although, as long as we're going to set up a Miaou server anyways....
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ In Python x[::-1] isn't really a built-in

Yeah, but most other answers use builtins.

@quartata that might have to be your project, given that I have no idea what I'm doing there

Were it not for the rigidity of the output format, it'd be $nr$N. in Minkolang.

yeah I wouldn't have downvoted if it wasn't for the input format

> These are the supposed results
what, you don't know if they're right ? :P
Anyhow, these are the types of answers that are interesting:
1
A: Reverse a 1-dimensional array

MegaTomC, 67 bytes Takes a pointer to the start of the list and a list length. void f(int*a,int s){int t=*a;*a=a[--s];a[s--]=t;if(s>1)f(a+1,s-2);} This is a recursive algorithm that swaps the first element with the last, and then runs the same function on the middle. Ungolfed: void f(int* a, int s...

5:56 PM
@ArtOfCode do you know how to vagrant

@quartata what even is vagrant

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ except I doubt it fulfils the spec

@MartinBüttner oh. :|
types I guess is the redeeming quality

@ArtOfCode ok whatever acquire vagrant and do this github.com/Canop/miaou/blob/master/vagrant/vagrant.md
Actually, wait.
Nevermind
Don't do that
I'm stupid
4
Hmm, the manual installation process is super complicated though :/

5:59 PM
so this gets me a VM... within a VM?

yeah don't do that
I did wrong link clicking

I do already have the AWS instance

It rankles me that the "Epik" user got a net gain in rep because of their two answers.

This is the manual install (github.com/Canop/miaou/blob/master/installation.md) but it kinda sucks

6:00 PM
@El'endiaStarman *Erik

@VTCAKAVSMoACE WHAT IS THIS COOLNESS?

The same happened on their last challenge with that MarioLANG answer that was upvoted like crazy for showcasing several emoticons...

@MartinBüttner The rho looks like a p... :P

I always thought it was epik XD

his name used to spelt with the Latin alphabet

@quartata such effort

@VTCAKAVSMoACE This yours or no?

Maybe we should just stick with IRC

@El'endiaStarman ah hell naw
I just found it.

I found a similarly cool collection of geometric GIFs the other day, let me dig that up...

6:04 PM
And of course no explanation is provided. I am less enthused now.

A: Reverse a 1-dimensional array

Έρικ ΚωνσταντόπουλοςPython 3, 24 bytes print(list(input())::-1)

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Isn't that the recently-discovered pentagonal tiling?

Posted BY OP, and gives a syntax error and doesn't even come close to solving the challenge once you fix it.

@El'endiaStarman Ye.

I hope you guys didn't have any other plans for today

@MartinBüttner Oooh I like the triquetra.

I found this quite mesmerising:

Someone downvoted every answer on that challenge lmao
this is happening more and more often

6:12 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if it was Erik himself in revenge for all the downvotes on the challenge

Yeah, I think it is
His first Python answer only has the one downvote it had from the beginning
@ArtofCode do you know how to IRC

@quartata I know it exists, and very roughly how to use it. If you want me to do integrating with it, not a chance.
Chat might have to be your thing

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

NeilIs this a helpful starting layout? My computer has a Patience-style card game installed on it. It takes two packs of cards, removes the Aces, shuffles them, and deals 8 cards. In order to maintain my 100% perfect completion record, I want as helpful a starting layout as possible. Deuces are imm...

@ArtOfCode No I just need you to start an IRC server
I know how to do the interesting parts

6:19 PM
@quartata tell me how and I can do that :)

@El'endiaStarman Wheeeeeeee!

alternatively give me a public key and I'll give you SSH access

FGITW'd x 2!! \\o//

You want ircd-irc2
Actually
Oops that doesn't come with nickserv or chanserv

6:22 PM
@QPaysTaxes I do Python.
So nope.

Oooh, I like this one:

o-O
lolwtf someone downvoted each answer on the reverse array challange
seriously he's just salty now XD

@quartata Yeah, we already have issues with that. The file it wants me to edit doesn't exist.

6:27 PM
I always love it when a post starts with some form of "This is not a duplicate, I promise!"

Well, to be fair, it isn't a duplicate ... it's just not very good.

I know, it's just one of those red flags that immediately catch my eye and make me look closer for problems.

In fact:
No candidate version found for dancer-ircd
No candidate version found for dancer-services
No candidate version found for dancer-ircd
No candidate version found for dancer-services

Guess it's dancing all by itself, then.

we need an OS where the entire environment is virtualized

6:30 PM
Doesn't Java have something like that?

oh, its a thing
Operating-system-level virtualization is a server virtualization method in which the kernel of an operating system allows the existence of multiple isolated user-space instances, instead of just one. Such instances, which are sometimes called containers, software containers, virtualization engines (VEs) or jails, may look and feel like a real server from the point of view of its owners and users. On Unix-like operating systems, this technology can be seen as an advanced implementation of the standard chroot mechanism. In addition to isolation mechanisms, the kernel often provides resource-management...

@Geobits Better than his first challenge which said "I know this is a duplicate, but I wanted to have my own post." (I'm not paraphrasing.)

Oh. Well then, I guess it's a step in the right direction.

user207712
@MartinBüttner who's

Erik's
yes

user207712
6:31 PM
Who's Erik?

the guy who just posted the challenge that's at -13

eleveninja'd

user207712
@MartinBüttner I feel sorry for Erik. My first post was -12 :(

user207712
@MartinBüttner But I learnt from my mistakes :P

Good point, gonna go reverse my upvote.

user207712
6:34 PM
@QPaysTaxes You do realise my very next question was +14?

My first question is at +19, but still has no good answer after two years :(

user207712
@QPaysTaxes And then my account was nuked :'(

My second is in the 50s though :)

@Geobits Same thing at +16.

user207712
@Geobits still have a lot to learn ;)

6:37 PM
@MartinBüttner Oh, but the one answer on mine isn't compilable at all. Or wasn't last I tried anyway :/

you win
mine is in an interpreted language :P

hmmm...it'd be really cool if there was some sort of progression system here

like, reputation?
badges?
privileges?
yeah, that would be cool

no, like a "Finish these X challenges"

@QPaysTaxes that's a thing
@NathanMerrill so tag badges then :P

user207712
6:39 PM
@MartinBüttner can you delete this: codegolf.stackexchange.com/questions/44680/…

user207712
@MartinBüttner It's from my nuked account

@MartinBüttner I'm thinking something similar to project euler

user207712
Oh yes please can you do that @MartinBüttner

My first challenge was a +20, and had several answers. #justsayin

so, we assign numbers to quality challenges, and its more of a "completionist" sort of challenge

6:40 PM
@Solver Ohhh that's why it was gone

@NathanMerrill (I'm just messing with you, some sort of gamification specifically tailored to PPCG would certainly be fun, but I'm not seeing it happening any time soon)

user207712
And I'll give you a list for re-association

Yeah, mine was +19 with 12 good answers. ;)

user207712
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ what was gone?

@MartinBüttner you're fine :)

6:40 PM
I also left it in the sandbox for ~2 weeks.

@TimmyD My first challenge was +6/-5 and received 2 answers and was closed iirc
@Solver the user :P

@QPaysTaxes I don't think I can do that.

@ArtOfCode All right. Try the regular irc2-ircd then

user207712
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ oic

I'll probably implement NickServ myself so it uses your QPixel account

6:41 PM
@QPaysTaxes I can top that. I didn't know about it for my first seven :P

user207712
@MartinBüttner can you delete it then?

@TimmyD My first challenge was +24 but it sucks I'm so ashamed of it

user207712
BTW @MartinBüttner is it acceptable to repost my old questions if you delete them?

@MartinBüttner Would it be a bad thing if we have the community choose X challenges, and then we actually edit the challenges to say "Challenge Y of X" with a link to the meta page that lists all of them

user207712
@quartata Yeah, my first challenge was -13! Thank goodness I had the association bonus.

6:42 PM
@Solver That doesn't seem fair to the answerers.

user207712
@MartinBüttner true.

call it "Tour of PPCG" or something

user207712
@MartinBüttner but you can still delete my answer!

My first challenge was and still is +8. Lowest scoring challenge, in fact. :D

user207712
oh hai @El'endiaStarman

6:43 PM
@NathanMerrill I'm not sure I'd link back to the tour, because you'd have to update the challenges every time you change the tour, but I'd be up for creating a tour and linking to some decent and important challenges from meta.

user207712
My messages are making a pattern!

@MartinBüttner I'm not a huge fan of updating the tour. We could create additional tours later on, but it would be somewhat permanent (if I had my way)

user207712
:(

the advantage of linking from the challenge itself is visibility to people that don't frequent the meta

@quartata Nah, that's not a bad challenge.

6:45 PM
especially because meta posts get lost if they aren't frequently edited

@TimmyD It's do x without y and it's really just a uniqueness test
please

user207712
@NathanMerrill We could create themed tours

it's trash

@quartata I didn't say it was a good challenge, I just said it wasn't a bad challenge. ;-)

definitely not deserving of +24

6:47 PM
People like palindrome source code, though.

@QPaysTaxes +3 for the Portal references. :P

@MartinBüttner I'm making a meta post about it. Do you think I should make a "Yes/No" meta post, or a "Yes/No, and if so, how?" post

the latter please

Isn't that kinda duplicating the "Best of" awards?

"Best of" specifically targets the past year, and selects 1 question per category. I'm imagining a bunch of challenges getting nominated, and then upvoted. I'd also love it if there was some sort of reward we could give to them at the end, but I'm not sure if that's feasible

@QPaysTaxes that's not a bad idea, but it places the bounty givers in charge I believe

this reminds me... @Doorknob are there still some remote plans for a blog or medium publication?

votes indicate popularity, not quality

@ArtOfCode How do I add a site setting?
