@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ !@zyabin101 HAI!
That was rather premature >_>

Word for "consider with caution" english?
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ llol

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ apprehend?

not really?
but close... >_> I hate sorta knowing
brb banging head against wall
nope, didn't help

XD I hate that too

What's so bad about that word?

6:03 PM
@LevelRiverSt I know the 7 significant figures rule seems a bit arbitrary. It was difficult to predict what would be an appropriate accuracy without knowing what different approaches would be used, so I just had to settle on something. Since everyone will be working with the same requirement it seems fair to me.

@flawr You do that so often.

SHOTS FIRED
you could always ask on English.SE. They accept single word requests

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Oh you hate not finding the right word, I thought you were saying you hate the word "apprehend"

@trichoplax no problem, stroke-width=3.464102 it is. So long as it's the same for everyone. As you can see the SVG is a real mess and it was important to clarify that before golfing. I reckon it will still be under 600 bytes when I've finished.

is there an online tool to help with brainfuck programs that does this: Given N as the initial starting point, generate M in the shortest fashion.

6:12 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Yes.

sorry I only answer 1 question per day

@LevelRiverSt Yes I appreciate you needed to know for certain before golfing.

@orlp Why? :3
Do you only have golfing power for 1 answer per day?

@zyabin101 Now you ask me two more questions.
I just said.

6:14 PM
@orlp Here, I'll move to the next timezone.

I only answer 1 per day.

(across the dateline)
So where is this fabled device?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ "No."

@trichoplax I would like to see your algorithm, I hope you post it.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I fail to see the relevance of your timezone.

6:15 PM
"I only answer 1 per day in my timezone."

Let me rephrase.

@LevelRiverSt Note that if you delete your own answer, you can edit it while it is deleted and then undelete it yourself when it is ready. However, if you leave it and someone else flags it to be deleted, you won't be able to undelete it yourself (you'd have to flag it for a moderator)

After answering a question I wait at least 60*60*24 seconds before answering another.

The next question will be answered after 2016-05-16 22:12 GMT+0300.
Right?

@LevelRiverSt I definitely want to post mine eventually. I need to golf it first so it'll be valid, and then I want to add diagrams to show the symmetries
> at least

6:31 PM
Has there been a mother meta post on adding a user preference to disable oneboxes?

@quartata how would that work? the oneboxes are stored server-side.
hm I guess they must store the original message as well though
that brings me to the question why on earth would you want to disable oneboxes? :D

@zyabin101 We never learn ._.

@MartinBüttner What's a onebox?

@Bálint Half a twobox.

@Bálint when you post a link and chat expands it to something useful (link to an SE post, a comment, an SE site, an xkcd, an image, a wikipedia link etc.)

6:35 PM
This is:

I haven't experimented with it but I think the server side rendering of oneboxes is only done for the transcript which pulls from /events. The WS doesn't do that

@quartata I guess it would be useful for people on a slow or expensive connection

@flawr 13/10 most useful answer ever

@Bálint Anytime.

There isn't a wikipedia article on oneboxes to use as an example :(

6:38 PM
Or people who have to disable images lest an animated gif pops up and crashes their weak phone and/or tablet

@flawr 2boxes? Ooh...

@zyabin101 The first primebox.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ somebody uninstall steam from my computer.
TF2 is downloading.

I thought you already had it? Is it updating?

6:46 PM
I did.
Computer was erased.

oh right

I reinstalled it, but somebody messed with my computer and re-uninstalled it.
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ estimated time is 12 minutes.
remaining.

ik
One day this will happen to alex and whoever feeds him dosa.

What is dosa?

6:54 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ D: rip archimedes

Life when combined with avocad.

A dosa dosa!

why can't I paste 571 characters into chat >:|

because max for one line is 500

@manshu Use multiline messages. The limit there is huge. I don't know the exact number, but I recently heard about a message of 36000 lines that was allowed, so it's really large.

no
I'm just splitting it up into lines

+#++++++++++++@>+[->-[---<]>-]>@$@$@<>>-

It makes a semi-decent looking webpage
not really

6:58 PM
NTFJ?

wtf is wrong with me and four-letter acronyms and unreadable languages

>_> these names
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ how about WTFML?

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ How can I run it? I want to take a look at it

@Bálint Let me set up a fiddle pro tempore

7:01 PM
@mınxomaτ lol

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ 20 seconds.

Uhm, uhm, I only see "Home Contact us Gallery"

yeah
that's all that's there

7:04 PM
that's all it does

Ninja'ed
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ are you in TF2?

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ not in game as of now

7:04 PM
going in

7/10 Not complex enoughű

I'll make it's homepage with it
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ grab the ubersaw

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Heh, so we just fork the fiddle and put our code in text just to make an ITML website, huh?

What's with all these .io domains (slither.io, agar.io, vulgar.io, cursors.io), is it free or something:

@zyabin101 pretty much
@Bálint github.io
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ in

7:07 PM
@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ you pick server or should i?
wait move to skype

@mınxomaτ that's really cool actually

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Then you would get the .github.io suffix

@Bálint You can use custom domain names with it
I think people like the .io TLD though
It looks cool

7:09 PM
It's way too expensive for what it is.
It's more than 70£ per year.

I think it's for the British Indian Ocean territory or something like that lol

In comparison: A .xyz is just $3 a year.

@mınxomaτ The pound sign usually goes before the unit of currency...

I kinda wonder how the Christmas Islands or Libya feels about their domain names getting used like this

@wizzwizz4 I was going to type € and was to lazy to replace and re-arrange :P

7:12 PM
@mınxomaτ d:-D

The domains .tk, .ml, and some others are actually free, for a limited time
but you can renew them

@Bálint 12 months actually at freenom.com . But you get zero support and frequent NS resolving issues.

I was able to register one
But it wasn't fun

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ This is a bit more comfy fiddle, with credit and instructions‌. Flip to the Result page to view the result. Click Edit in JSFiddle to edit and fork the fiddle.
^_^

haha that's nice

7:15 PM
The XYZ TLD is currently the cheapest TLD of all. Currently exactly $ 1.99 per year. Followed by DE for $ 4.07 per year.

Is there a list sorted by price somewhere?

@mınxomaτ I did not expect them to be so cheap.

@mınxomaτ You can only use a country specific domain, if you live in that country

No, that's wrong.
This restriction is only for very specific domain names. For example .EU, .CO.UK or .FR
The vast majority of domains is now open to the general public.

7:26 PM
@mınxomaτ Good. I need one for a business proposition! :-)

I love the .feedback one, it's not just long, but expensive to

I wonder why they don't just allow any ending?

@mınxomaτ Yeah, I mixed it with the actual name of the website, wich is restricted
So the thing before the domain type, e.g. google in google.com

@flawr Uhm, they already do. TLDs are not regulated by some company, but by the DNS you are using. If you want a new TLD, you just need enough DNS servers to agree with you ;-)
@Bálint Restricted how?

@mınxomaτ So it is still restricted...
And the available ones are quite centered around the english language.

7:35 PM
@flawr Well except all German newTLDs...
@flawr Why? If you create a DNS server that resolves .flawr then anyone who puts your DNS' IP in their network config will be able to access flawr-sites :P

@mınxomaτ For example, you can't use a name-based domain, if it's not your name, so for example John Doe can't use the domain dennismayer.com

@mınxomaτ But I do not expect many other dns to accept that?

@flawr That's the hard part :D

If that would be easy, we would have a ton of domain names to choose from

All *.local domains are free. :D :P

7:40 PM
@Bálint No. This is only disputable if the domain is used for commercial purposes.
You can dispute this in court, but this usually only applies to famous people, since your average Joe's name has no commercial application (and doesn't infringe trademark rights for name-brands).

@zyabin101 I think localhost is also free!

Your ip is free :P

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Furthermore, the registration is never restricted. Domain abuse is only disputable by a claim made by another party after the fact. And even then, companies that do bring a court action must present legal arguments on why a domain name registered to someone else should be cancelled or transferred to an organization who wasn't fast enough to register the name first.

Would be cool if you also could register ips.

7:42 PM
You can, so long as by "IP" you mean "intellectual property." :P

> Poll IPv6 addresses aren't really supposed to spell out domain names, but Facebook has adopted an IPv6 addy that includes the characters "faceb00c." A quick DNS lookup of facebook.com confirms this: the domain resolves to 2a03:2880:2130:cf05:face:b00c::1. Faceb00c. Get it?

They ninja'd my idea.

Last day Downgoat asked what the header of his blog should be, and I made him one based on his icon. I didn't like it, so I remade it, opinions?

@mınxomaτ I wonder whether any mortal human being can do that too....

@mınxomaτ It's cool. :P

7:46 PM
@Bálint Not really sure that would work as a header

@AlexA. It is! :D :P

@mınxomaτ A roommate I had long time ago worked on a project with servers, and just for fun, encoded his name in hexadecimal ascii into the server address

@Bálint I really like it, but I agree with minxomat about it being a header.
I think you did a nice job with it nonetheless

@Bálint @Downgoat see the message replied to. Bálint especially wants your opinion. :3

@Bálint downcodegoat

7:47 PM
> codegoat

> godecoat

> geodocat

ghosts_in_the_code should change his username to goats_in_the_code.

I just looked up the TLD endings.
user image
10

hahahaha XD
spooky business

7:51 PM
Ok, maybe there was someone, who wanted a personal domain name...

I wish there was *.codegolf. :P
And *.stack. :P

If the extension was .codegolf, what would our site name be?
codegolf.codegolf?
programmingpuzzlesand.codegolf?

there is .golf
so
code.golf
Is there a minimum length?

BOOM. We should ask SE to register that and redirect it to us. They do that with Arqade; IIRC they have arqade.com

I'd register a.men

7:53 PM
Yep, link works

sus.sex

There's even a .ninja

@AlexA. That is captured by Uniregistry. They want $10+ for that domain.
Domain "investors" are the cancer of the internet.

If any of our users were citizens of Congo, we could register pp.cg for free.

7:57 PM
Someone should create WordBuilding.SE: each answer contributes one letter.

@Zgarb who wants to move? ;P

Jeez, I found an interesting one, .website domain costs $825 a year
BTW, code.golf is taken

4 mins ago, by mınxomaτ
@AlexA. That is captured by Uniregistry. They want $10+ for that domain.

Ooh, I understand

@PhiNotPi Heh
I need to make another C9 workspace for that.
Today I discovered domains.google

8:02 PM
@zyabin101 Overpriced.
And not available in most other countries than the USA.

pp.cg is $844 0_o

@Bálint Whoops, I meant $10 k +

@mınxomaτ even better
In this form?
I couldn't find the font he's using

@mınxomaτ Oh haha, I was wondering why $10 mattered.

Oh no, there's .MEME.

8:11 PM
maymay.mene

> mene

It's too bad .ai domains aren't cheap

@mınxomaτ :O I must check dank.meme and stack.meme
There isn't. O_o

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ I made a stupid mistake while I was cleaning up last night... It's fixed, and from now on I'll do code reviews before I pull request new feature branches

@zyabin101 Google is creating that right now

8:13 PM
.site is perhaps the most descriptive domain name
@Quill working on what?

The chat in terminal program

great, now i have to register gnu.meme, or as i've recently taken to calling it, GNU+Meme

@mınxomaτ O_o
\o/ @RenderSettings you're back!

@zyabin101 They have "Bacon Ipsum" instead of "Lorem Ipsum" and recently released something called "Parsey McParseface" ... what do you expect?
3

A wild Doorknob appeared!

8:15 PM
Is there anything to be added to the new suggestion or can we implement it?

Q: Updating the [popularity-contest] tag info: suggestions

flawrThe current tag info of the popularity-contest is outdated and needs to be replaced/improved as we now have much clearer notions of what a pop-con is compared to the time of creation. From the recent discussions (links below) we can conclude that a pop-con needs an objective validity criterion ...

is it possible to change the (x,y) points at which a string displays in the console? I'm using node

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ formatted printing is a bit weird

@Quill how weird?

I don't think standard console.log prints extra left whitespace
apparently there's a module that does

8:18 PM
what is this fabled module?

I wish there was a Pandora for YouTube channels. "Oh, you like 3Blue1Brown? Here are more channels just like it!"

and you can always use the leftpad module with it ;)

I should discuss one boxing of SE post revisions.

I'm trying to emulate node's progress bar
Y'know, filling up |------| with |#######|

there's probably a module for that

8:20 PM
yes, but I'd want to be able to apply it in other scenarios

for that terminal script, the readline module has a builtin feature to keep refreshing the "special line" to keep it at the bottom

Q: Node.js formatted console output

exebookIs there a simple built-in way to output formatted data to console in Node.js? Indent, align field to left or right, add leading zeros?

var sprintf=require("sprintf-js").sprintf;

console.log(sprintf("Space Padded => %10.2f", 123.4567));
console.log(sprintf("    _ Padded => %'_10.2f", 123.4567));
console.log(sprintf("    0 Padded => %010.2f", 123.4567));
console.log(sprintf("  Left align => %-10.2f", 123.4567));
> Sprintf-js allows both positional (0, 1, 2) arguments and named arguments.

@Quill lol, okay

I just realized... if I make a website with ITML, I'll want to show the source code. To do that, I'll have to show the source code within the page... the quinedom comes to haunt me

What is ITML?

@flawr The idle text markup language.

@El'endiaStarman I do not think there is anything like that channel.

Ninja'd

@flawr An unholy mashup of BF and HTML.

@El'endiaStarman :D thanks

8:32 PM
just use ssi to include the file

@El'endiaStarman oh...

@quartata what's that?

Just put a switch. Flick it, to show the source.

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ Server Side Includes

Thanks so much for doing that

Okay, let's not push that loop too hard.

8:37 PM
kk ^_^

@AlexA. Sänks

That tab has been open for about 2 weeks, now I can finally close it. sigh

@CᴏɴᴏʀO'Bʀɪᴇɴ I downvoted an answer on CR the other day for saying "read the js standards article on w3schools for more info"

@Quill show me that answer and I shall follow suit

8:40 PM
they removed it afterward :)

@Quill Why do some people hate w3schools?

\o/
@zyabin101 it's legit crap that someone thought was chocolate

That seems harsh (assuming the rest of the answer was good and it wasn't a link only)

It wasn't a good answer anyway
I didn't upvote after they removed it
w3schools was just the cherry on a cake made of disappointment and unhappiness

It's also deceptive--it puts jQuery next to langs like PHP and SQL, and their own CSS stylesheets (stylesheets!) next to those.

8:44 PM
Guess the heavy metal band behind this logo:

King Raspberry?

Nope

What subgenre of metal are they?

Queens of the Spiky Apple

Guys, opinions on how this looks?

8:46 PM
I guess it kind of looks like a cheramoya

Neoclassical

Hmm
Yngvey (sp?) Malmsteen?

Nope

I don't know much neoclassical metal :/

Haha, well I think I have to remove the 'metal' part

8:47 PM
@Bálint lel. I like the image but don't understand the text.

also 'neclassical' is somewhat too new.

I used google images'

It was the seal of Johan Sebastian Bach

@AlexA. It's the blog's quote.
"Programming, and goats in certain directions"

8:48 PM
Oh it's a blog?

@AlexA. Yes :)

@Bálint :o I wrote three of those lines

If it's Downgoat's blog on programming then it makes sense
Or at least as much sense as "goats in specific directions" can make in any context :P

it's his blog

8:50 PM
@flawr Step 2: you don't want to
It's boooring

@LuisMendo You think?

No matter how technically skilled he is

How do you like Michael Romeo?

I don't know him. I'm not very much into Yngwie-type of music
I like The Toy Dolls, if that will do :-P
And Jimi Hendrix
That was the opposite to boring. Skilled, but without sacrificing composition

(Not the full sound track of that song, here you can only hear guitar + some background.)

8:52 PM
I like the guitar sound
But too Yngwie for me :-D

This is the guy from symphony x

So much tapping gets me dizzy :-)
One of these days I have to learn that tapping technique...

One of these days I should start learning to play the guitar.

I miss playing music so much.

8:59 PM
