I "discovered" something interesting while working on my new esolang: if you define subtraction as a ternary operator a-b-c, with semantics a-(b-c) when written in terms of the normal binary subtraction... then subtraction becomes associative: (a-b-c)-d-e, a-(b-c-d)-e and a-b-(c-d-e) all evaluate to the same thing so a-b-c-d-e is unambiguous.

the same would work for division provided your language works with rational types such that division and multiplication are reliable inverses of each other.
