Though I'm the only one in my street who bought the fibre connection. But all apartments got optical end terminals for free. I'm currently considering just buying the connections from apartments that don't use them, since my current provider refuses to give me a bigger pipe.

> Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set him on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life

Hey, I never said I was original. :P

12:19 AM
@mınxomaτ It's for compiling Python extensions written in C
Or Cython in my case

Sounds like you just need a C compiler.

Right.

So yeah, follow my link above.

@DrMcMoylex I think you're original. <3

OK. Full disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm doing

12:21 AM
(that particular thing notwithstanding)

I just wanted to build something on Windows and see if it would work
Then I remembered that end-user operating systems do not have compilers

It's Windows so the answer is most likely no

34 mins ago, by mınxomaτ
MSVC is included in Build Tools, VS is not: https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/vcblog/2015/11/02/announcing-visual-c-build-too‌ls-2015-standalone-c-tools-for-build-environments/

I saw. Trying right now

Gives you the standard command line C/++ compiler.

12:22 AM
@quartata OS X comes with clang and all sorts of crap.

@AlexA. Did I mention I type my PPCG answers on Windows Notepad?

I think you have mentioned that. Blasphemy :P
I think @Doorknob uses Windows Notepad for Linux

It always causes strong feelings around here

@AlexA. I almost fell for this

Beware of MSVC command line switches. If you need GNU, try TDM-GCC. Dev CPP is a tiny editor that installs sets up GCC and all the environment variables automatically.

12:23 AM
Then I remembered

^^^^ Now that's blasphemy

@LuisMendo If there's one thing that TNB has taught me, it's that operating systems are very polarizing.
Browsers too.

@mınxomaτ I only know GNU but I'm told that using GCC on Windows is like killing babies
3

And JavaScript

@AlexA. :O
Now the pressure is on!

12:24 AM
So I'll just figure it out

Nah, you're original just for being you

@quartata Not really. But if you are not familiar with MSVC, start with Dev CPP. You get a native GNU make environment.

For this I only need to specify include paths really

No pressure

@AlexA. Accurate

12:31 AM
lol

@Doorknob So, just for the challenge of it?

@Doorknob Did you know that there used to be an Internet Explorer for Mac?
True story

hmm, I might name my esolang "pearl".

@AlexA. The key here is "used to" :-)

12:33 AM
PEARL, or Process and experiment automation realtime language, is a computer programming language designed for multitasking and real-time programming. Being a high-level language, it is fairly cross-platform. Since 1977, the language has been going under several standardization steps by the Deutsches Institut für Normung. The current version is PEARL-90, which was standardized in 1998 as DIN 66253-2. PEARL is not to be confused with the similarly named Perl, an entirely unrelated programming language created by Larry Wall in 1987. == Features == PEARL supports both fixed-point and floating-point...
Also aren't you from Arqade?

@quartata >_>

Have we lured you over?

@arda Doesn't perl sound the same?

@quartata yup

mwahaha

12:33 AM
@quartata nah
I'm everywhere

@LuisMendo I was joking, actually; there is no MS Notepad for Linux (that I know of). Doorknob is a hardcore Vim user.

gaming, anime, cr, gdse, su, au and pcgg

@AlexA. Bwah. I'm easy to fool I guess :-P

:P
I think the easiest way to detect trolling is "Microsoft .* for Linux," since Microsoft basically doesn't make anything that works on Linux.
And Microsoft Office for Mac is literally the worst software I've ever used.

@AlexA. well, vscode, dotnet core are some that I can remember that works natively on lniux

12:37 AM
I thought Mono was required for .NET on Linux?

@arda They were made to be crossplatform.
@AlexA. .NET is a specification. Implementations are curate by the DotNet foundation and include DotNET core and Mono for linux.

@mınxomaτ Yes, but blaming microsoft for not making linux-only is weird. Crossplatform is, imo, good enough, but well, I'm biased.

@mınxomaτ Oh interesting, didn't know.
@arda I don't blame them for not porting software to Linux. It's in their best interest as a company to focus on producing software for their own OS.

@arda I mean Office was never intended to be cross platform or have any kind of portable file format. VSC etc. were created with that in mind.

also, powershell for linux

12:39 AM
Who in the world would use that

Well yes, but we all know PowerShell is a mistake all around.

no idea
@mınxomaτ yes

I'm actually having to use Powershell right now because for some reason Python hangs in Git Bash.

@mınxomaτ Don't tell that to TimmyD >_>

So far it's driving me nuts because there's no which
And I have no idea how pipes work in it so I'm scared to try

12:40 AM
@quartata Pipes in unix and windows are the same.

31
A: Powershell equivalent to unix `which` command?

nagulThis was asked and answered on Stack Overflow: Equivalent of *Nix ‘which’ command in Powershell? The very first alias I made once I started customizing my profile in powershell was 'which'. New-Alias which get-command To add this to your profile, type this: "`nNew-Alias which get-co...

As are std streams and redirects.

@mınxomaτ No, not those pipes.
I mean as in command1 | command2

@quartata Yes. These pipes.

That works in PowerShell?

12:41 AM
What's the best typing trainer? Esp. for dvoark.

Of course.
That worked since DOS

I guess they're not total savages then.
I don't believe <<< was a thing in DOS though.

Also you don't have to use PowerShell. Just use the command prompt. Git Bash is simply powershell with git slapped on it.

PowerShell has aliases for stuff like ls. That's the only reason I'm sane right now.
Also Git Bash has vim. Already makes it better

@AlexA. I was thinking it was with Vine or something... // Yes, all people I know who have used Office for Mac say the same thing

12:44 AM
Wine?

Wine Is Not an Emulator.
It's also useless for most purposes.

Yes, Wine, sorry

Vine is also useless, but in a different way

@Dennis yeah

I'm not much of a Linux user...

12:46 AM
@mınxomaτ It's going away!

@Dennis Seriously?
Wine has worked for almost everything I've ever tried.

@AlexA. It still exists o.O ?

@mınxomaτ We might be talking about different things... I mean the short video platform owned by Twitter.

@quartata Yeah, it never really did the job for me.

@AlexA. They're closing it, I read

12:47 AM
Yeah
Wasn't generating enough revenue, apparently

Never used it. I don't think that's what Twitter is for

@quartata I've been using it for a while lately, and it doesn't help usually.

I'm more a text than a video person

@LuisMendo Twitter has kept Vine pretty separate from their flagship product. Vine wasn't initially a Twitter subsidiary IIRC.

@LuisMendo twitter is mostly about sh*tposting and memes nowadays.

12:48 AM
@AlexA. Yes

Dammit, my stays at 21 stars.

@arda Well, it all depends on who you follow!

@arda I think that depends on who you follow.
Ninja würde

hahaha

12:49 AM
we all know that only real account is @swiftonsecurity and the rest is a lie
and that's mostly memes.

Well, there's Nihilist Arby's...

See this one I saw today
Math in motion! https://t.co/PRg6F2LQZL

> Tweeted by SciencePorn
oh my

Yeah... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think I read that twitter missed some big investments lately due to the lack of moderation in content.

12:50 AM
This needs four more stars. Make Geobits skull again!

They also started banning people for threats and stuff. Around when milo (@nero) got banned.

@Dennis Done. Is there anything similar for Calvin?

There is.
Can't find it right now.

Is it the reference by Mego? With five stars
@AlexA. I discovered this symbol the other day It reminded me of you
Hm, the eyes are too small here. Let's try without backticks ⍩

Looks like I'm misremembering.
May 27 at 5:12, by Helka Homba
@AlexA. If all 4 current mods are still active on PPCG ten years from now I promise to change my name back to Calvin's Hobbies

12:59 AM
Hm, that's a long wait!

@LuisMendo but its worth it

@LuisMendo >:U
5

>:V

Learning Workman layout. At 13 WPM currently

Why even bother? :P
Oh boy, what perfect timing for a TF2 update.....
Always happens within 5 minutes of me starting a server

1:12 AM
@quartata prevent hand cramps; typing speed is secondary
18 WPM!

@ConorO'Brien Is there a place where I can test code in Y?

I'd definitely argue that you're more likely to give yourself hand cramps by trying to learn a layout that you are unfamiliar with

Well if it isn't @poi830.

@Dennis Didn't he say he was going to change back if Trump was elected?

@ASCII-only Oh gee, did I?

1:17 AM
Oct 19 at 3:50, by Helka Homba
@Downgoat If Trump wins I'll go back to Calvin. Read: Never.
11

Rofl.

@AlexA. @HelkaHomba Change it. Now.

@TimmyD 103 seems too few waaay too few

@AlexA. Ah jeez

@mınxomaτ also that psuedohotdog thing look delish but is not a hot dog

1:19 AM
"Read: never" implies that it was written in another language where "If Trump wins" is equivalent to "If false"
So I think he's in the clear

@Adnan no vi is not as good as vim but not virus

dammit quartata
Geobits -> skull; helka -> calvin
@quartata someone make that esolang

@quartata That was a bug in the language. It now, because apparently the universe is a cruel place, returns true.

Anyone know what this means:
ImportError: ../addons/source-python/plugins/cython_test/cython_test.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

@AlexA. Really late but yay I'm finally online at the same time you're alive :D

1:22 AM
Haha, yeah, we're basically on opposite sides of the globe
Well, literally I guess

I don't Source.Python uses 32-bit Python but it might be possible

I'm a user of my word.
18

@Calvin'sHobbies You monster
Why would you do this

@Calvin'sHobbies you changed name back?

:O that was fast

1:22 AM
27 secs ago, by Calvin's Hobbies
I'm a user of my word.

Well, at least one good thing that came from this election.

Oct 19 at 3:50, by Helka Homba
@Downgoat If Trump wins I'll go back to Calvin. Read: Never.

No promises it's permanent.

@quartata That's a c++

@quartata Maybe it's a binary compiled for the wrong architecture?
@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC C++?

1:23 AM
@Calvin'sHobbies You could change it back once he's out of office

@ASCII-only No it was compiled on this computer

@Calvin'sHobbies eh ofc it's permanent
you are calivn
calvin

@ASCII-only A c++ error

Oh I see the problem

@noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC Cython != C++

1:24 AM
@quartata This is why I don't make bets

@AlexA. what if he repeals the amendment for the two-term limit

I'm sure even if it was by an executive order there would be enough votes to override it

@Calvin'sHobbies :O
I honestly never thought I'd see this day

Me neither.

Is it permanent?

1:27 AM
We'll see

Ugh, is there a way to get a 32-bit version of Python without screwing everything up
All I really need are the headers actually

@AlexA. hi

I just had a really funny thought
There are enough new users here that I bet there'll be at least someone who goes "Where'd Helka go? And who's this 'Calvin' guy?"

@Calvin'sHobbies 24 : 24

1:32 AM
Thank!

OMG BEST DAY EVER ALEX AND CALVIN ARE BACK
14

<3

@ConorO'Brien Alex was back ages ago

wait wat
Oh well

@Dennis Bah. Help Calvin outgold Dennis! (Actually don't. Only upvote that challenge if you honestly like it and downvote it if you don't.)

1:35 AM
Well, today he's backer than he was before.

Aw come on, what the hell. Aviation.SE got their design before we did. >:/

11/1/2017's the date I hear

@ConorO'Brien *11/1/2022, 11/1/2023 or 11/1/2024

tbh underhanded contests are fun
but horrible for the SE format

1:39 AM
Just curious, how many have submitted a language to CALESYTA?
@ConorO'Brien Maybe it's better suited for chat.SE format :P

@ASCII-only hmmmm
CMU?

@ConorO'Brien Yeah

@ConorO'Brien I disagree

that's okay

@AlexA. Weren't you our SE liaison? Start liaisoning :U

1:41 AM
@Calvin'sHobbies Heh, I was wondering how that old answer suddenly got two upvotes.

<_< definitely wasn't me

I'm OK with the current policy, but I disagree with having underhanded being off-topic. Especially since the idea clearly works (C&R is basically a higher quality underhanded)

> Liaison - the binding or thickening agent of a sauce, often based on egg yolks.
Most definitely you

I do not see the connect between cops and robbers and underhanded at all.
And it's been sufficiently demonstrated I think that underhanded doesn't work.
Plethora of bad closed challenges and cheaty answers

aw shoot I opened up a can of worms again

1:43 AM
Code trolling was also fun. It's just not beneficial to site health.

I love worms
Granted, I was not around for code trolling. But it didn't look like it was a lot of fun.

CMC: Write a program that looks like it prints Helka but prints Calvin instead.

Obviously just my opinion

@Mego Hmm?

Dammit, “Helka» prints Scout reaggregation Aachen.

1:45 AM
xD

@Dennis lol
That must mean something
Aachen (German pronunciation: [ˈʔaːxn̩]) or Bad Aachen, traditionally known in English and French as Aix-la-Chapelle (English pronunciation: /ɛks.la.ʃa.pɛl/), is a spa and border town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Aachen was a residence of Charlemagne, and later the coronation place for German kings. Aachen is the westernmost city in Germany, located near the borders with Belgium and the Netherlands, 61 km (38 mi) west-southwest of Cologne in a former coal-mining area. RWTH Aachen University is in the city. Aachen's industries include science, engineering and information technology. In 2009...
So some scouts are meeting en masse at Aachen?
Clearly a conspiracy

@Calvin'sHobbies :( this is harder than it sounds

My two cents:
'Helka '(+37-~])&.(3&u:)' !%0-s'

Foo: print 'Helka' (not "Calvin") +10/10 for effort right?

it's very disguised ;)
nvm

1:53 AM
@Dennis No, I don't, why?

Seems right

I wonder if this is why my laptop is shutting off while playing games now..

@Shebang you should probably start looking for the CO2 extinguisher

@Calvin'sHobbies Perl: print Helka^"\n"
@Shebang Because of the untrusted macro/wallet theft.

@Calvin'sHobbies yum

1:58 AM
@ASCII-only Perl

@Dennis Never mind, D: pls stop using zero-width chars

@Calvin'sHobbies AFAIK there's no news, since we're still waiting for site-specific text first

@ASCII-only I didn't.

@ConorO'Brien You can see what the various commands do by changing the "O" in this program: v.tryitonline.net/#code=T2xpbmUgeA&input=bGluZSAxCmxpbmUgMg
To the commands I mentioned, that is

Okay, maybe not, but Ideone says there are five whitespace characters that I didn't see before

2:00 AM
They're ASCII control characters. You of all people should recognize them. :P

@Shebang Try running FurMark. That's how I verified that my computer was crashing for graphics reason while playing some video games.

@AlexA. Site-specific text?

Basically an over-complicated s/question/challenge/g.

...am I dreaming?
Is that a "Calvin's Hobbies" I see?

2:02 AM
I am having way too much fun playing with this keycap attached to a mechanical switch. (I haven't gotten the actual board yet, but that hasn't stopped me from repeatedly clicking the switch just because it's so satisfying :P)

@Doorknob Sounds like this is for you.

@Dennis D: I didn't know, the console says they have charcode 183 = not ASCII

Oct 19 at 3:50, by Helka Homba
@Downgoat If Trump wins I'll go back to Calvin. Read: Never.
Except I was wrong...

@Calvin'sHobbies Yeah, I had to scroll up to see that.
@Calvin'sHobbies A lotta people were...

2:04 AM
Yes. A lot.

@ASCII-only That can't be. XORing an ASCII character with a non-ASCII character would produce non-ASCII output.

@El'endiaStarman Hm, FurMark doesn't even detect a second GPU

in Election 2016!, 6 hours ago, by Dennis
Huh. That looks like Trump didn't so much win as Hillary lost.

@Dennis u_u

@Dennis Yeah, Ace Editor is weird and I didn't think to inspect the code on the actual link

2:08 AM
@El'endiaStarman Athough the temperatures are now magically reading correctly
..nevermind

@Calvin'sHobbies YAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! You're back

@Downgoat It's not somthing to be happy about

At least one good thing come out of election

The legends say that he will only return in times of dire

@quartata ? Why. Haven't we been waiting since forever for this

2:12 AM

Luxemburg flag is just a lighter version of the netherlands flag.
lux on top, neth on bottom
And chilean flag is just a really lazy american one.

The Chilean flag is an American flag.

@Dennis chile is sovereign

And America is a continent.

@Dennis OK, US flag then :P
Despite the fact that cuba and puerto rico have international tensions, it's basically s/red/blue; s/blue/red

2:17 AM
Puerto Rico is a US territory

@AlexA. I know.

Puerto Rico having international tensions is just the US having international tensions

@AlexA. I know.

Then I don't understand what your point was.

I've seen many trucks that say "American blah blah business" that accidentally have the russian or netherlandish flag.
@AlexA. s/*//0

2:18 AM
Paraguay's flag looks like the Dutch one, with two different seals on both sides.

I like the UK's flag. It's nice.
cambodia v. ecuador
Costa rica vs. North korea

Do we need a flag room?

A room where every message is flagged? :P

NATO has noice flag.

No, a room where we can enjoy noɥʇʎPʎzɐɹC's “fun with flags”.

2:22 AM
"enjoy"

@AlexA. :(

To each their own

this was the confederate flag:

Apologies if that wasn't clear, but I meant you should dial down on the flags.

You know a game's featured replay ranking system is bad when a replay where a player loses connection half way through is featured

2:31 AM
lol
which game?

Clash Royale.
Arena 9 Matteo vs Hardstyle on TV Royale

@Calvin'sHobbies ;______; ono
not another bad thing :(

Could we stop with the flags now?

Anyone here ever worked with ATS (the language)?

Link?

wat
@Calvin'sHobbies Why the name change?
