My JS answer to my own question just got one-upped by Java :P

Ugh, Java

@minxomat Sorry, Java is perhaps my favorite language when I want static typing.

Java is perhaps my favorite language never.

@Doorknob *ever. :P

Hmm. Interesting typo, the * and n keys are really far apart. But you're right, I do mean never. :P

It's better than C++. Ever tried debugging an error message in C++? The give you about a MB of data to sift through. And it's usually caused by one line of code.

That's not really true, at least with a modern compiler.
In particular, clang's error messages are extremely helpful.

Apparently VC isn't a modern compiler

@ETHproductions You copied my improvements :D

I wonder... can I get g++ for windows? And can it be used with Visual Studio? Or Clang? That would help a lot. I like those compilers more than VC.

@Justin Uhh. VC is a compiler?

11:29 PM
@Doorknob Yes. Visual C++

@Justin Get mingw to use g++ for windows

@PhiNotPi Are you doing that on purpose?

What is mingw? Is that a compiler? Or is it something else?

I wanted to know how long it would take for people to notice.

ಠ_ಠ

It has the necessary infrastructure to use g++ out of the box.

Okay. I'll take a look at it sometime when I'm not in a crunch to do homework.

There is an up2date fork of DevC++ using the TDM-GCC 64bit release. It's really perfect.

@Justin You could get Ubuntu :D

¯\(°_o)/¯

Of course I'm talking about the Orwell fork, not the wx fork.

There is no difference. It comes with MinGW and TDM, and both can be used outside of the IDE because they are automatically added to PATH.

@TheNumberOne Isn't cygwin enough?
What do you guys think of this?

@orlp You just install it and it sets everything up. You just wrote how to do it manually. Plus the Orwell fork is a good, lightweight IDE.

@Justin You have some very special problems.

@minxomat you compiler should not be tied to your IDE

11:41 PM
@feersum Meaning?

and there are many, many distributions of MinGW
nearly all of them are misconfigured / outdated / shit

@orlp IT ISN'T
Are you even reading what I write?

OHH it's MinGW? I always read it as "ming-whee"

The old Bloodshed DevC++ contains an ancient MinGW. The newer forks are updates when there is a new version of TDM or MinGW and download and install boh x86 and x64.
It is not in any way tied to the IDE. In fact, MinGW / TDM are installed where they belong. The IDE (should you choose to use it) merely accesses it through PATH.

@minxomat last time I checked TDM-GCC sucked
I can't tell you exactly why right now, I don't remember, maybe things have changed
let me ask some people, one sec

11:46 PM
If you want TDM or Cygwin, use the Orwell fork. If you want MinGW use the wx Fork.
Same IDE. Though the wx includes some RAD features.

@minxomat no
use mingw-w64
6 mins ago, by orlp
@minxomat you compiler should not be tied to your IDE

Does anyone understand this? The link is just to the really annoying "Friday" song for me...

also, cygwin is total dogshit, if you need to use *nix tools on windows use MSYS2

@Justin Apparently my university internet connection has blocked the bit.do website. :/

@orlp I use what I want. And again, it is not tied together. You can download the IDE without any compiler or let the IDE install the latest MinGW / Cygwin or TDM release for you. There is a release for every single one of these four possible setups.

11:52 PM
@PhiNotPi bit.do is a url shortener... apparently there's a joke going on that I'm not getting

@quartata I find your avatar ... interesting ...

oh hello there

@TheNumberOne glider
