@Sp3000 Are you happy to post it or are you waiting for a fundamentally different approach?
@Sp3000 ...and by "weeks later" you mean 10 days later? Or are you including the time before the question was posted? :P

@ChrisJester-Young As I stated on MSE, I believe that the beta label is putting some people off. Getting rid of it might help us grow the user base. Elections would also be nice, I think, and we've reached a rep level where we could probably handle the higher privilege thresholds.
However, I believe that PPCG is a bit of a special case for graduation, and I'd rather we stay in beta than get a "standard" graduation. There is a lot of standard SE jargon around the site that doesn't make sense in the context of PPCG, and I think these inconsistencies are what make this site beta. On one hand I realise that SE won't prioritise customising these things only for a beta (especially this one), on the other hand, it would be a lie to call this graduated.
So I'm pretty sure (and hope) even if we do fulfill the stats, we won't just get the same graduation as anyone else. There's a lot more to it for PPCG, and I hope that if we ever do graduate, you guys are taking the time to do it right.
Basically, if we did graduate PPCG would have to work and make sense for people who don't know anything else about the SE network, and that is currently not really the case. PPCG only makes sense in the context that it's a somewhat special site in a network built for something else.

12:32 AM
@trichoplax I'm fairly confident 82 is still suboptimal so I'd like a good search heuristic, but I'm not sure what works... (and by weeks I rounded up :P)

Hmm... sounds like you need a heuristic-finding heuristic...

12:49 AM
@Doorknob You actually attended Duke Tip? I did the SAT testing but nothing else.

@PhiNotPi Yeah, I went last year also.

in the sandbox, I think a [ tag : code-golf] links to main. (remove spaces)
^ that one also links to the main site's tag page.

anyone hear about the new matrix multiplication thing in python
pep 0465

@qwr What's Python?

@AlexA. A kind of snake.

qwr
zoo trainers have successfully trained a certain species of snake to do matrix multiplications

Is it asps?

qwr
when they curl up into "@" shape they can process thousands of rows in a matrix
mark my words, in 15 years they will know LU decomposition

2:20 AM
Isn't LU decomposition when the snakes shed their skin?

@qwr I saw it, it's nice to see changes that assist with third party libraries

Alright, Sp brought it back on topic. I'm guess I'm done trolling for now.

Well snakes don't multiply, they're adders
7

qwr
it you stack multiple adders on top of each other that's basically multiplication

Not as cool as lambs and their lambda calculus.

@MartinBüttner I disagree with that. The 10 questions per day is a dream and we would not achieve it without affecting the quality of the site. Waiting for another year or two just to get a special graduation (which right now is not even defined what makes it special) is not worth it IMO
And I am pretty sure that if we want to wait, it is going to take more than an year and even after that, it will be a normal graduation.

Lovecraft depicts Cthulhu as a gigantic entity worshiped by cultists. @BetaDecay That's almost certainly a bug; you should report that on meta.SE.

@Doorknob Not exactly, but there's been a bit of talk about how migration just isn't working well. Like this post for example.

@Geobits Ah, yes, I've seen that one.

4:12 PM
To be honest, I basically never see a question here that's good for migration (except to meta).
Even the off-topic ones that could go somewhere else are usually just close-bait there anyway.

Yeah, that's true for the vast majority of cases.

Q: About me text filled in

Beta DecayWhen I go to my About Me text and delete its contents, this following placeholder shows: Is this intentional or a bug (as suggested by Doorknob)?

Hey, I'm working on a personal project...is it important to do back-end validation on stuff that isn't security related?

@Doorknob I'm sure that's not a bug. There was another meta post last month asking about a link in it, and nobody thought it was a bug then.

What on earth... is this really the placeholder text? Good grief. — Lightness Races in Orbit Jul 2 at 18:13
If it's not a bug, it should probably be changed anyway.
(hey look at that... for once I agree with Lightness)

4:20 PM
@NathanMerrill I've always gone by you can never trust the client to validate anything... if it's important to be valid, check it

Oh I can agree with that :)

ok, better question. People can build games using my app. If I don't do back-end validation, then they could technically put in data that doesn't make sense, which would likely crash JS if somebody tried the play the game. Is this a security issue?

@NathanMerrill So you're running user-provided code? That's almost certainly a bad idea.

Even if it's not a security issue (it probably is, but I'm not a security expert), it's a UX issue. You don't want it crashing for any reason at all that you can control.

4:24 PM
It's an inconvenience for sure, I don't know about security wise...but it reminds me of the Stackoverflow vuln in the level designer of Super Smash Bros... it's one of the attack avenues on the Nintendo Wii.. allows arbitrary code exec

@MartinBüttner isn't the solution: find both averages, check if number in set is lower than average and higher than other average?

@MartinBüttner The "at least one other element" check is free: an element can't be strictly lower than the average of its list if the list only has one element.

Well that's weird. Out of curiosity, I clicked the reopen button on that (deleted) post. Now why in the world would I be allowed to do that? I thought it was going to give me a popup saying I couldn't.
So in other words, please disregard the second reopen vote on it :(

life is giving you a second chance to do something better than down voting or closing

I don't think reopening that one is better...

@Geobits you know if you got the confirmation popup, you could have stopped just right there..
@Geobits better than downvoting good posts

I know, but I wanted to see if it would work. I really thought it would stop me after the confirmation if nothing else.
@Optimizer If they were good I wouldn't downvote them :P

in every other place, it doesnt even let you initiate the process if its banned

Maybe, but unthorough testing is unthorough.
Why would I stop before finding out if I could? It's not like it's in danger of actually being reopened.
Now I kinda wanna find out what happens if it gets five reopens while deleted.
