i win the english golf competition

317 bytes for my halting program generator. I'm not happy with a lot of the things I had to do. I might reimplement it in another language. The syntax will be mostly the same, but just going to a language with python's defaultdict behavior by default will save me a lot of characters.

5:06 PM
"I'm not happy with a lot of the things I had to do." Such is the tragedy of war.

Alex is being philosophical today.

No philosophy here.

lieeessss

Nah man. True facts.
@ThomasRoss That's what browser bookmarks are for.
Like exactly what they're for.

fine

5:13 PM
Does anybody know why I just got a chat notification? As far as I can tell, nobody pinged me...

@Dennis Clearly, the PPCG gods needed you
But, no. No idea.
Unless somehow ThomasRoss == Dennis

@TheNumberOne Eh, good night! Well, not sure what that ping was for anyway, I didn't even receive it but I stumbled across it on the transcript.

@ThomasRoss You might be on to something. perl -e 'print ThomasRoss == Dennis' prints 1.

That's kind of weird.
Re Perl and your chat ping

@Dennis haha
null == null

5:17 PM
@Dennis If someone pinged you and deleted the message afterwards, you still get the notification but you won't see the message anymore. Perhaps that happened here.

@ProgramFOX Wouldn't that show (removed)?

The pinging system on chat has seemed kind of weird lately.

@Dennis "you still get the notification but you won't see the message anymore"

@Dennis Not on the transcript.

But I was in the room already.

5:20 PM
Hmm... well I just got two pings for your reply. Weird.

It seems we have quite the mystery on our hands.

Eh... I just got a ping for @Alex's message but he didn't ping me...

Another ping. Sweet.

lol

@Dennis Are you a fan of pings? Sarcasm doesn't always translate well to ASCII text.
@PhiNotPi lol indeed

5:22 PM
I don't think sarcasm translates that well into Unicode text either.

No, it does. I've checked.

@AlexA. Both false pings I got were for messages from you. I think you broke something.

UTF-32 only though.
@Dennis Were they false though?

is anyone working on a /// entry for the halting challenge?

oh wait... I see what you did on the transcript

5:24 PM
It was something we determined yesterday.
(Or early this morning, depending on your timezone)

Oh so that was what TheNumberOne did with that ping that did nothing.

You can ping someone in a link using [ text ] ( http:\\@Dennis ), omitting spaces and replacing \\ with //
You can be a sneaky little sh-- by using a punctuation mark for the link text.
Like I've been doing.

That@Dennis" rel="nofollow">'s kind of weird.

I was just about to submit a bug report on Meta but then I saw the transcript :P

Haha, very funny.

5:25 PM
I used a zero-width space.

Hi Dennis!

Clearly some of us find it more amusing than others.
Now that I've sufficiently trolled strangers on the Internet for the day, I should really be going.

@Katya Your execution time limit is unrealistic for programs executed from command line. I would suggest using IO through pipes instead.

That's pretty funny actually

I knew all along. If in doubt, blame the geese!
:P

5:27 PM
@Dennis Usually I would say blame @Geobits.

We all know who the number one suspect is :P

You can also spin The Wheel of Blame to know who to blame exactly :P
2

It's Marc Gravell's fault!

I got the SO dev team.
Let's submit a meta post.

I always get Mark Gravell

5:30 PM
same

Then clearly he's to blame.

We need a PPCG wheel of blame

It's always Geobits.

True

Or the aliens'.

5:33 PM
Choices: Geobits, Aliens, Geese.

@ThomasRoss PERFECT

oh we need aliens and geese too?

@AlexA. No it isn't

Well Dennis wants to blame aliens and geese.

5:33 PM
Okay. Give me a minute

@TheNumberOne Mmm... pretty sure that's incorrect.

It should spin with just Geobits' name.

^ yes

@PhiNotPi It already does
The one I gave Alex only has Geobits

Doesn't spin though
It just shows his name

5:37 PM
Okay, give me a couple of minutes

Granted

It would also be funny if there were a bunch of names but it only ever landed on Geobits.

^ YES

Okay, there's aliens geese and geobits
wait what
why does aliens have geese's picture
LOL

I still just get Geobits with no spinning

5:41 PM
I don't see anything different.
Wrong link?

@AlexA. it's because jQuery doesn't load over SSL

@ThomasRoss add an http://

Now it works :D

Yeah, it works with http:

5:42 PM
Nicely done

you should star it lol

Your next task, Mr. JS Developer, is to add several PPCG users but have it only ever land on Geobits.

Okay

You'll get paid $0 USD for every hour spent for this contract project.

@AlexA. can you make a list of users and their SE profiles?

5:45 PM
I can in a little while. In the meantime let's brainstorm on who should be included. Certainly the mods, plus you, me, Phi, Geobits (obviously), Calvin...

I'm not sure whether I should feel pride or offense right now.

Dennis, ProgramFOX, The Number One, Sp3000
@Geobits Some mix of the two is probably ideal

Oh, ok. Well then, back to The Witcher. Have fun, see you guys next week.

I figured out how to make it land on Geobits always.

@PhiNotPi I just get geese

5:47 PM
@PhiNotPi That landed on the geese for me, not on Geobits.

wrong link

same

must not have updated

@PhiNotPi yeah, just add li.first().css("marginTop", 0);
to the callback

5:48 PM
@PhiNotPi lol?

oh crap... I found a 13 byte version for crossword counting half an hour ago, but didn't get around to edit the post... now I'm late to the tie with Jakube :/

oh wait

@PhiNotPi Doesn't spin

@TheNumberOne Spins for me

@TheNumberOne same https problem probably

5:49 PM
I edited it to remove the s
should work now

now it does.

Okay give me a minute

Oh Dennis and his removal.

This works: jsfiddle.net/bj18dk9s Embedding doesn't.

The embedded works for me (jsfiddle.net/bj18dk9s/embedded/result)

5:53 PM
@Dennis YES, YES! You've done it!

@Dennis I see Math.floor(Math.random()) in there.

@AlexA. I'm working on a more extended version right now

Here is my version, which sometimes does more spinning for one spin than another. jsfiddle.net/yvt6cp3m/2

@AlexA. I've done it VVV
"official"

Doesn't spin for me.

5:56 PM
same

Same

oh wait strange give me a sec

And the code uses aliens and geese
I see them lurking in the shadows

OK HERE WE GO
@AlexA. Do you have something against aliens and geese?

Mine, with improved spinning: jsfiddle.net/bj18dk9s/1/embedded/result

5:57 PM
@ThomasRoss doesn't spin for me

@ProgramFOX It's the ssl problem
Try that

ah, that works

if you use HTTPS everywhere you'l have to allow loading unsecure sources
oh its broken

@PhiNotPi This is exactly what I was hoping for. This should be linked in the PPCG help page.

I'm stealing PhiNotPi's spinning thing

5:58 PM
Let me edit the footer text though.

@MartinBüttner 1b -> ,

Ok, that one is good

@Dennis nope, doesn't work if there are 0s in there

Right...

@ThomasRoss that sometimes ends up with a white box as the result :(

@TheE Yeah, I don't know why, It uses @PhiNotPi's spinning thing, blame him

@ThomasRoss I just registered the url cgse.tk to forward to PPCG for a year. I'm not sure it will actually work.

He needs to increase the range of the for loop near the top to make sure that enough items are placed on the spinner list.

6:02 PM
@PhiNotPi You should of replaced the text with The Nineteenth Byte.

@Calvin'sHobbies Doesn't work for me, says page not available.

OKAY, THIS ONE WORKS, ONCE AND FOR ALL: jsfiddle.net/eb04pwc7/6

doesn't spin

Doesn't spin because of https

@AlexA. I only just did it. It may take a while to register

6:03 PM
@TheNumberOne Click on the link again

@ThomasRoss Spins if you remove https, but it ends on a blank box for me.
@Calvin'sHobbies Did you have to pay for it?

You didn't increase the bounds of the for loop like you need to.

@ThomasRoss Went off the board.

cries
jsfiddle.net/eb04pwc7/9 -- PPCG Wheel Of Blame
try that

Yep, that works for me. :)

6:05 PM
works

Yayyyy

You should do an embedded result thing though.

link to the nineteenth byte doesn't work

@TheNumberOne works for me

Grumble, I keep forgetting middle click.
Doesn't work with left click.

6:07 PM
^

@AlexA. No. It lets you have a domain for free. Freenom does too, though I tried it once and it didn't work very well

Good to know!

^^ Star that one

Remove the https

same

6:08 PM
Left click still doesn't work

same

what are you talking about??

The 19th byte link

Oh
Probably a JSFiddle Restriction

6:09 PM

Once we pick a wheel we should get it pinned.

^ Best so far, not perfect.

The link doesn't work.

ᵖᶦᶜᵏ ᵐᶦᶰᵉ
@PhiNotPi Yeah, I think JSFiddle disables <a href> elements
@PhiNotPi did you steal my user list lol

I ditched the Alien though.

6:12 PM
And the geese
Well, I guess our wheels are effectively the same
apart from the footer
I stole your spinning bit
the marginTop: -(li.first().outerHeight(true) * (Math.floor(Math.random() * 3) + 3)*li.length) - 2
@PhiNotPi ^^

Okay
We should add Optimizer

How could we forget him
Which one should be the official one?
@AlexA. ^^
@TheNumberOne ^^

I'm adding some more people now.

Okay. Let's use @PhiNotPi's then

@PhiNotPi ^

6:21 PM
I'll fix the link.

@PhiNotPi Do we have Calvin and Doorknob in there too? Maybe add a touch of trichoplax and randomra for good measure.

I added Calvin.
I don't think DoorKnob is, but he should be.

Definitely

I added aditsu and randomra
and optimizer

lol, what are you doing? :)

6:26 PM
@PhiNotPi Just query this and add all of them

So far, I've improved the link by adding #1's improvements over top of a regular link, so it has underlining and a cursor change.

@MartinBüttner qN/_z+:~1-,

Thought quite some time about a good cat program for the cats&catchers koth, but haven't found one yet.

Unless I'm missing something again.

@Calvin'sHobbies Not all of them are active in chat though
@randomra Developing this

6:31 PM
@AlexA. Just don't forget Sp at least

I had mentioned him before. Is he not in there?
@PhiNotPi ^^

I'm slowly working through the list.
Just added Door

(See, getting the users automatically is more maintainable :P)

@PhiNotPi But what about its accompanying knob?
@Calvin'sHobbies Is there a way to query chat users?

@AlexA. Sure. Ask me anything you want.

6:33 PM
Should I add Peter?
I think so.

@Dennis brilliant! :)
ohhh, just got the Zachtronic Industries email newsletter. "TIS-100 is the assembly language programming game you never asked for!" I'm sold!
3

@PhiNotPi Without question.

@AlexA. Not with the api I think. but some data is here

@MartinBüttner Now hurry up before Pyth beats you to 11. :P

@Calvin'sHobbies Weird, I'm not in "frequent in room"

6:35 PM
And jimmy

JIMMY

@Dennis done :)
thank you
what's this guys, are we getting our own wheel of blame? who curates the list?

@MartinBüttner me and @PhiNotPi curate the list

@MartinBüttner Yes we are! We're haphazardly adding people

@MartinBüttner It always lands on @Geobits though

6:37 PM
:D

It makes me so happy

Rainbolt is missing

@PhiNotPi ^^

will add

also, any decent wheel of blame should contain the possibility of blaming caching
5

6:38 PM
What is that?
Is it relevant if we only ever blame Geobits?
2

@PhiNotPi We need an updated link

I actually slowed down the spinning a little so it isn't completely unreadable.

Once it's done I'll put it in the page description.

Maybe it's just me but I think it takes a little too long to spin

Great!
I can speed it up.

6:41 PM
you also forgot Chris

We also need Dr. Brian Steel, MD

How many seconds do you want the spinning to take?

At least 600. This is code golf.

Did you hear that, Dr. Brian Steel?

6:45 PM
He actually forfeited his doctorate, legally changed his first name from Brian to Brain, and changed his middle name to have length -1. His name is now BrainSteel.

StackOverflow failed with their review queue tests

Digital Trauma or Maria Tidal Tug?

Haha
DigitalTrauma

I've never realized how many users we have.

Looks like we're at capacity. All users with rep below 8k will be deleted.
@PhiNotPi You need xnor and NinjaBearMonkey

6:52 PM
I just added NBM
And CarpetPython

@PhiNotPi Did you get tricho

not yet

tricho?

plax
I name golfed you

Well that's helpful
