11:00 PM
@quartata why does your nethack keep saying "It's a wall" O_o

Things I learned today: Don't google "cute shit" with safe search off.

Cause I type fast and bump into walls often

my nethack doesn't say "it's a wall" when I bump into a wall

well oops

lol

11:02 PM
Damn
Yeah I made mine do that
It's a setting
Whatever I'm getting tired of tourist + that was a file from a week ago so I had no idea where I was anyways
Imma do arch

@quartata altar in literally the same room you spawned it o.o
how come I'm like the unluckiest person ever when it comes to altars

I don't remember how to tell what kind of altar it is der

;
or : on top of it
(same as any other dungeon feature / item)

@minxomat I don't see anything nasty

@quartata use the g/G keys
you can go down that entire corridor in two keypresses
g<direction> or G<direction>
and at the "where to travel" prompt, you can hit _ to travel to the altar, < for the staircase, etc.
and you need to use diagonal movement keys :P

11:07 PM
Oh jeez I feel dumb for not knowing that
thanks

@minxomat I probably could have told you that even without having done it. :P

I'm probably too low level to fight this bat right
Wait was it giant?

hmm, I need a shorter way to count unique elements

It was dead the whole time. nevermind
I'm kinda dumb

@quartata why are you leaving behind the bronze plate mail?

11:11 PM
@aditsu How do you do it now?

__&,2*\,-

@Doorknob Because I'm too lazy to pet ID it right now. I'll pick it up on my way back to the staircase

(I know duplicates appear exactly twice)

@aditsu What does it mean?

@AlexA. it means 2*length(no duplicates)-length(all)

11:13 PM
@aditsu as in, only elements that appear exactly once?

yeah

Couldn't you just implement \cup or something to mean length(unique(pop))?
Cup being the LaTeX symbol you get when you do that

I don't know what those things mean

contains
er wait no
Union

@aditsu
In APL that's unique, so ∪x in APL means the unique elements of x

11:15 PM
I need to count the duplicates 0 times, not once

I misunderstood
Woot, 10 more answers to go for the gold code golf badge! (But 267 more upvotes to go :/)

> golf code golf badge

This site has made it impossible for me to say "bye," "bite," and "gold."
s/say/type/i

s/.$// is golfier

See here's the problem with this bronze plate mail :P
I'm burdened and I can't open that box

11:19 PM
@quartata open your inventory?

I'm also tantalizingly close to both Nice Answer and Enlightened for this.

I've got some stuff in the sack

... Alex, did you star that? ಠ_ಠ

Why would you assume it's me? ಠ_ಠ

well, is it?

11:21 PM
Jeez it's like I can't say anything without someone interpreting it as a sexual euphemism
3

a.) why is the scroll not in it as well, b.) what are you doing carrying around a random bow, and c.) what is in the sack?

I shouldn't have to answer such accusations. This is America.

also, you can open the box if you have that key
assuming it's untrapped

a) idk b) it is uncursed/blessed so maybe i can find some arrows or sell it c) ill open it for you

ooh I found something: _fe=2-,

11:22 PM
so why aren't you wearing the armor you have

@aditsu Iron is 2-?

I'm wearing the bronze plate mail

what about the fedora?

@AlexA. yes, yes it is

I'm wearing an iron skull cap

11:23 PM
then why are you still carrying around dead weight

Dropping it didn't help

what if you leave your tinning kit behind for now
or drop it near the stairs on every level
the AC from the plate mail is probably well worth it
(or the pickaxe, that's a better idea)

@Doorknob I'll drop the pickaxe
One second

#loot
... wat

Doesn't work for locked containers

11:26 PM
so unlock it
you have a key...

How?

[a]pply

That only works for doors

no it works for containers as well

I'm literally doing it right now

11:28 PM
you're standing on the box and hitting a, the letter of the key, and then .?

Oh you have to use .
I thought you could just do it by standing next to it and hitting the directional key

ok well I've got to go now; see you later!

Jeez I'm still burdened
Bye

@Optimizer Do you like tofu?

KILLED BY KITTEN
AHHHHH

11:39 PM
D:

ELBERETH DOESN'T WORK ON KITTENS WHAT

@AlexA. never had persay

I put something in the sandbox, got downvoted with no explanations. Not sure how to improve it or if it's already been done

@Status Link?
@Optimizer Per se?

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

StatusIs Marty McFly here yet? Inspired by this post Back to the Future day is almost upon us. That is, the day that Marty McFly travels thirty years into the future thirty years ago is almost here. So your job is to make some code that informs the user when that is. For this, your code when run sh...

11:40 PM
What's the python syntax highlighting tag?

@Calvin'sHobbies <!-- language-all: lang-python -->

np bb

Jeez so it turns out what happened was that Elbereth wore off one turn after I wrote it
RNG hates me

@AlexA. big bae?

11:41 PM
In fact it hates me so much I think I'll write a challenge about it

@Status It's not very challenging (it's just an if time < specified print this else print that) and it's a bit underspecified.

I'm not sure if "output no if before given date otherwise yes" has been a challenge before, but I'm going guess maybe
hmmm

Probably so

wouldn't working with UTC be somewhat of a challenge?

Not necessarily.

11:44 PM
guess I'll have to think of something else for back to the future day

For example, the time functions in R default to the local time but they accept a timezone argument, so it's as easy as saying "UTC" in a function call.

ah

@Dennis loves Back to the Future.

well I don't think I can improve that one

@AlexA. How do you know this?

11:46 PM
@quartata How wouldn't I know this?

@Dennis doesn't really remember the movie.
@AlexA. Btw, Dyalog doesn't have mean nor sqrt. I defined them at some point, and they seem to get stored on the client side.

there's some time travel for some reason, and the guy's best friend is a talking pie

@Dennis I like how this was a reply to BTTF.
Are you using the desktop version?
14.1?

Anyone know how to do bitwise negation in Pyth?

@quartata At least several people do.

11:49 PM
OK poorly worded question...
How do you do bitwise negation in Pyth?

@AlexA. No, TryAPL.

@Dennis Clear your browser cache.
Or do )clear
@quartata I think it's x
x is bitwise xor, .| is bitwise or, and .& is bitwise and.

I was wondering why it was asking for two arguments
OK so x isn't negation that's xor

Yeah

Maybe negation is .~

11:55 PM
Idk

It's not rats

wat

...

Cᴏɴᴏʀ O'Bʀɪᴇɴ has been away for 1 messages.

11:57 PM
@quartata This appears not to mean anything at the moment
~ is a form of assignment

@AlexA. Wrong computer. That's how I figured it out. :P

So you tried it on your other computer and it wasn't defined and that's how you figured it out?

Hey @isaacg what's the operator for bitwise negation in Pyth?
If he's around that is...
