I think I just got serially upvoted.

me too
probably a vox populi wisher

@Yannis I just saw that you and Gilles are backing the Literature SE proposal. I'll be interested to see what comes out of it.

2:13 PM
@b_jonas and @HDE226868 and @DVK and a lot more, i bet this will be interesting

@bleh Yeah, I'm hoping it launches soon. It should be fun.
@Yannis Someone seems to have upvoted a lot of questions at 9 net votes, to trigger a load of Nice Question badges.

well that did happen for me

2:35 PM
@HDE226868 It's tonight i thought?

@HDE226868 This is a general pattern, I saw it happen (both to my own posts and other users) at other sites at times, including SO.
@Yannis I have once proposed (not sure in the comment or actual Meta Q) a feature that would politely warn new users when they serially-upvote someone's posts too much - which is easy to do; you see good post from someone, you check out their other posts, and like them too. or they are just prolific in a tag you like. And new users don't know any better.
@Yannis Also, related (likely)

Q: Overcoming targeted viewing?

Monica CellioOn a Stack Exchange community I moderate, we have received some complaints about what appears to be targeted voting. Targeted voting is where somebody goes through another user's posts voting for (or against) everything just because it came from that person. This distorts the voting on a site a...

@bleh Are you participating as well? I hope that proposal succeeds, I was quite sad when original literature site was shut down.

4:42 PM
@DVK-in-Florida Yea, very excited for it

4:59 PM
@DVK-in-Florida I think last time I saw a serial voting alert proposal, it was shot down because it would give people a pretty good guess at the thresholds of the algorithm.
@HDE226868 Ah, so it's not entirely random. That's good, I guess, if the votes somehow stick at least they would be on posts that were already considered good enough by the community.

@Yannis My idea is that it'd be rather different from serial voting script. Merely something dumb and independent, "make more than X votes in Y minutes for specific user=> get a warnnig to not concentrate on voting for same user". The thresholds can - and likely shuold - be different from serial voting algo, since the goal is to prevent well-intentioned but ill-informed antipattern.

5:15 PM
sure, and perhaps a flag could be raised for people who stumbled upon the warning more than once in a relatively short time, to catch those few that'll try to abuse it to test the waters.

5:59 PM
@bleh Ah, yes.
@Yannis Yes, it's better than upvoting a bunch of terrible stuff.

YES
so happy :)

@DVK-in-Florida And not a single "recommend me a book" question!
