@PythonMaster Eh, it's okay. We once decided to get rid of a tag on WB, but rather than have a CM blacklist it, we decided to manually remove it from all questions with it, editing other things in them as needed. There were about four of us working on 70 questions. That really messed things up,
I then spent 15 minutes bumping other questions to fix the "active" tag.
@HDE226868 I'm going to have a really good answer to your holy grail question: several months ago I read an entire book about the symbolism behind the holy grail, and I'm going to look at it again to see what it says
I searched a lot but I couldn't find a creature that is similar to a frost phoenix or a frost bird like «Articuno» in Pokémon, for example.
It's for a project (I like to keep real mythology in my story) and I want something as close as this as possible.
@HDE226868 may I recommend that you try reading original myths rather than summaries from encyclopedias? I personally think that they're more interesting, and you can think about the author's original intent, wording, etc.
@HDE226868 I was looking to ask an arthurian question and I was reading her article looking to ask something more sophisticated but the Wikipedia article was really not clear on that point
@Christofian Ah, I think I've got some links to translations. Thanks. I liked your answer, by the way.
I'll most likely spend much of tomorrow reading bits of the Mabinogion; thanks for the recommendation. For now, regrettably, I have to go. Good night, all.
no problem. I would also recommend that you get a hard copy from your local library (if you have one): reading long texts on the computer isn't something I enjoy
> during the Third Age [equivalent to the Age in which the Popol Vuh places the invention of shooting out such magical darts], the sun stood still for one full day without moving from its place;
This sounded familiar to me...
> The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. Joshua 10:13c
My guess is that it's coincidental, and I can think of other myths where the sun/moon stops (I remember reading one myth where the greek moon goddess [Artemis or some tital] stops the moon because she sees a mortal she likes)
it's possible that the myth was influenced by christianity, but I doubt it, because it's such a specific verse in the bible (I don't think the bible is full of references to the sun stopping). My advice would be to see if you can find more evidence than the two things just being similar
(also, it's well documented that similar images show up in vastly different cultures, and it's not always because of the spreading of religions)
Currently, the 'australian' tag is used to represent the Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime stories.
However these stories aren't 'Australian' in terms of the current country & the culture introduced by Britain's subsequent settlement. Just as Roman myths and legends are known as roman and not ital...
@Christofian It's 100% correct to have a high standard for questions to ask. We are trying to generate a base of quality content, not just any content.

Also, write a short summary of the other site's answer in case the link happens to break for some reason.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of asking a question about the chronology of the sun standing still in Toltec and Judeo-Christian mythologies. Basically, do they happen in about the same year? I'm not sure if you guys would consider that to be on-topic though. (The answer is, incidentally, no. They're about 1350 years apart.)
This is related to Tag rename: [australian] -> [australian-aboriginal] or [australian-aborigines], which I saw just before I posted this.
Currently, we have a number of tags that focus on the mythology of a specific country:
chinese
japanese
welsh
irish
british
There are two issues I see wit...
> If a reasonably active room has no owner, or none of the owners have been in the room for a certain time, a new owner may be automatically appointed, to ensure that there's somebody who can administrate.
Specifically I was thinking that it wasn't necessary to take the time to add El'endia, HDE, senshin, etc. because they wouldn't gain any new privileges
Can someone (>750 rep) check the suggested edits queue and tell me if a tag excerpt edit is in there? I submitted one, but in theory I can do it without other approval . . . but nothing happened.
"Users with the privilege to vote on tag wikis will start seeing them appear randomly between other posts in the Suggested Edits review task. You can also visit the tag wiki page itself and click on the edit links (similar to a regular post with a suggested edit pending on it) to view the suggestion and vote on it from there."
About the question, I don't like questions like "Please list all male lovers", I don't mind that it's a list question actually, it's just a question that leads nowhere and has no other meaning.
Hereacles and Perseus were two well known sons of Zeus.
How many other male offspring did Zeus father by human women?
Included names should be sourced back only to Zeus, no "of uncertain parentage" folks included please.
That said, I've downvoted almost every question on the site that would be sufficiently answered by a quick look at wikipedia.
I can't blame Jody for continuing to post (what I think are) low quality questions. They were getting upvoted (~ the community welcomed them), why stop?
Only 3 out of his (hers?) 13 questions have a negative score. The feedback seems to be: "We like your questions, keep 'em coming".
Puzzles was great in private beta but as soon as it opened up to the internet, it got flooded with "solve my crappy riddle" and I couldn't stand it anymore.
@Christofian Nice answer for Pwyll; +1. It's sort of embarrassing that I didn't figure it out; I had read through some of the footnotes, but I mainly focused on those at the end, and I don't know if I would have figured this out. Thanks.
