@Jeff ML.SE may have been a mistake, but they put a banner up 3-4 days in that said "This site is closing. Thank you." (basically), which really killed it. Who is going to contribute to a site that is closing?

why did they put the banner up?

There was more than enough material there, and not all ML is statistics, so it was only shoehorned in on Cross Validated

was closing inevitable?

I think they wanted to do their "due diligence" that they had tried the site

mehhh desite the "stats.SE" moniker, the name "cross validated" is inclusive of ML as well

1:35 AM
No. I think it was political and related to CV's declared scope

pretty much the same problem with our site
well in any case

There are a lot of similarities
Hehe

i dont want to have to search on two different sites
there's undoubtedly enough cross-over

ML has only recently (3-6 months) had a surge on CV, before those tags were a bit of a ghost town
Yeah, I mean I'm all in with Stats now, but at the time it was just a miserable clusterfcuk

hmm i think since ML closed, ML tags have been fairly popuar
but whatevz
some people have suggested a separate R site
that would be a nightmare
i'd have to search three sites (including SO and CV)

1:40 AM
Yeah, R is the bastard child of a number of sites
