Q: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood

anongoodnurseSeveral times now, I've seen an answer for a question that was not asked. A recent example deftly answers the excellent question of how to prevent the spread of influenza virus. The question asked how to prevent spreading of the common cold. Another example: someone asked if using moisturizer c...

Q: Why is the name of primary chatroom "The Waiting Room"?

SS-3.1415926535897932384626433The Waiting Room sounds like that of airport and railway station. Please, change the name to something else. It'd be best to have a polling. Post your idea as answer and let the community decide.

@michaelpri - From time to time when I come across one of your answers that I think is correct but can use "better" references, I add references. It occurs to me now that maybe I should not do this, but should post an answer myself. What do you think? Am I putting you in an awkward position of possibly forcing you to read long references? :-O
I just thought of this tonight.

10:28 AM
@Susan - I am dismayed by how frequently recommendations come and go in medicine. At one medical school commencement, the speaker stated something to the effect that, "50% of what you've learned in the past 4 years is wrong. From now on, it's your job to figure out which 50% that is." I'm inclined to believe it's more than 50%!

@anongoodnurse Not sure where that quote originated from, but I've heard it at med school commencements too. There's some wisdom there, evidently. :-)

I'm also glad I'm not a hypochondriac. Vit E, Omega-3 FAs, calcium, etc. Here and gone again.
lol, you heard it too?
Fun thought to be presented with on graduation. :-)

@anongoodnurse Lends humility, I suppose.

:-) One hopes.

@anongoodnurse To me the worst part of shifting guidelines is the public mistrust that it fosters. We're not going to change our minds that vaccines are helpful, for instance...

10:35 AM
@Susan I agree. I get angry sometimes when every week, the NYT is coming out with "a new study revealing"...

@anongoodnurse 151% increased risk of death! (CI 8% - 294%)

The media is not helping anything. They report the results of por studies, and the doctors have to explain it to patients.
lol, exactly!
1.5 x (miniscule amount anyway) = BIG news.

10:57 AM
@anongoodnurse Hi :) Thanks for some of the edits. I am perfectly fine with them. I have been trying to use better references in the past few days, but some of my first answers are not as high quality. I will try to use better references, but I'd you do find anything you think will be useful to a possible reader, please do edit. Thanks :)

@michaelpri are you going for mod or not cos of LH?
@Susan good book :) may buy that some time

@Tim - I'm thinking about tossing my hat in there, but I can be a bit contentious at times.

Tim
@JohnP doesn't hurt to go for it :) I'm pretty sure you'll be a good mod!

3:51 PM
For legit, non-malicious concerns, you guys are banning people from chatroom. This is not how a beta site can flourish. I was going to be super active here. But, now I don't feel community is compatible with me.

Tim
sorry @SS-3.1415926535897932384626433
???
@SS I don't think there is anyone banning?
The only time you have posted is that removed message, and you seem to not be banned...?
Hmm you also posted a -5 on meta?
is that the issue? You were suggesting something we had suggested a long time ago, maybe -5 is ott, but it was defo a duplicate.

Tim
@SS what did you say? don't repeat it, paraphrase.

@SS-3.1415926535897932384626433 - If you post something that gets either flagged by a person in the room, or by the auto chat monitors it pops up all across chat. If people agree it was bad, then you get banned from chat everywhere for a period of time. I think it ranges from 30 minutes on up.

@SS just don't be rude. Discussion is fine, encouraged (hence the meta site), but we want constructiveness.

@michaelpri - Posted your nomination as mod pro-tem.

@JohnP Thanks, I'll think about it
@Tim I was nominated, not sure if I'm gonna accept

Tim
@michaelpri i saw

Would you accept a nomination?

Tim
i would accept but add a disclaimer talking about my age and schoolwork / exams
@Susan You have been nominated: meta.health.stackexchange.com/a/162/163

Ok, I'm gonna write one up now :)

Tim
@anongoodnurse You have been nominated: meta.health.stackexchange.com/a/161/163
ooh thanks :)

8:22 PM
@Tim Thanks Tim, I really appreciate it! I'll get back with you about a decision.

Tim
Just edit it :)

A: Who should be our Moderators Pro Tempore be?

michaelpriTim Meta From my experience with Tim, he seems like he would make a good moderator. He is knowledgeable about Health, even though he isn't a professional and whenever I have talked to him, he has been polite and respectful. He has also dedicated a lot of time into this site, both on beta an...

It's CW so you can edit it @Susan
@michaelpri thanks :)

Nice, you accepted :)

@michaelpri - Heh. Someone downvoted my nomination. :p

:( I wonder who?

Probably someone that I castigated in comments. I can be prickly. I have my suspicions as to who, but whatever.

Well, 1 downvotes not too bad

8:54 PM
mebbe, but it halves my approvals.
Oh well. I will be surprised if I get it anyway.

I wouldn't really, but there are a lot of good candidates

9:33 PM
@michaelpri + 3, -2 now.

Yeah, I just saw
Votes don't matter too much, I was +4 -2 on LH and I still got it (also a lot of people declined)
@Shlublu I've nominated you for Moderator, hope you'll accept

A: Who should our Moderators Pro Tempore be?

michaelpriShlublu Meta I haven't had much interaction with Shlublu, but he been a helpful, active member on this site, both on beta and meta, where he has posted many high quality answers. Shlublu is also a Certified First Responder in France, so they have experience that could really benefit this site.

10:01 PM
Mod nominations are up, will have to think about tossing my hat in

@JoeW It can't hurt

wow. Evidently I have a lot of haters in 11 days. :/

@JohnP I've got one

Evidently we all do except susan and nongood. Everyone else has at least one downvote.
:/

10:16 PM
They're probably the best candidates

even shlu and tim have at least one. Tim has 2 down.

Yeah, but haters are motivators right ;)

Oh, thx Michael! I'll definitely think about it. I'm tempted to accept, and at the same time I know how much I can be far away from time to time (business trip, just busyn blabla, and so on). I don't know if I would be good, for this reason, but I appreciate that very much!

I hope you do accept :)

@michaelpri - Most sites have 4 mods anyway.

10:18 PM
@JohnP Really? Most sites I've seen only have 3

John, you're not acerbic. You're just... fireman somehow.
:)
I like it that way personnaly.

brb

typo, I meant 3.
@Shlublu - Yeah, but when I'm blunt about bad answers it tends to irritate people. Irritated people don't vote for you :p

I see... I'm so used to that with the fellows volunteers that it doesn't hurt my feelings - that's a bias :)
I'm happy for Anongoodnurse and Susan. Both are brilliant.
Someone should nominate Nate too.

@Shlublu - Yeah, firefighters/ems/er workers develop their own brand of humor, and none of them suffer idiots easily.

10:25 PM
I just don't get why Michael received a downvote... I see no reason for this and the person didn't explain

I think someone went through and serial downvoted.

@JohnP So true, we tend to become "natural and spontaneous" quite easily ^^
Well, all this being said, it's time for me to go to bed, I'm on duty tomorrow and it's 00:30AM here
@michaelpri Thanks again. I'll definitely think about it
Good [time of the day] everyone

@Shlublu I really don't mind getting a downvote
Tim's back to even
I have to head out for a few hours
I'll be back later. Cya :P
