@halirutan You around?

That was 4:32 here. I went to bed at 4.

@halirutan It was just to give a quick update re: the SE/AWS upload suggestion.
It is highly unlikely that SE will develop a custom file hosting solution. Even for hooking something up with AWS (which would require non-trivial dev time) we would have to show extraordinarily convincing proof of the need for such a feature.
An easier solution (for them) would be to partner with a popular/dedicated host that is suitable for mma projects (Just like how they partnered with imgur for images on SE, balsamiq for mockups on UX, someone else for circuit diagrams on EE, etc.)

@rm-rf Hmm, I was afraid of that.

hello everyone!

Someone here?
I'm creating a community promotion ad for the IntelliJ plugin.
Currently I have a spectacular text-only version which looks pretty boring to me:
(not finished yet, but you get the idea)
Has anyone some ideas to pimp this up?

2:15 PM
OK, too late. I stick with the simple text-version without screenshots whatsoever
Sorry for selfpromoting

2:27 PM
@halirutan Why not put the logo in the middle?

2:43 PM
@rm-rf Haven't thought of that.
I don't have the code for the logo here, but I probably change it later.

@halirutan why? it got my vote.

Is anyone up to enlighten me about Dynamic? :( I'm getting more and more lost..

@rcollyer It was really time to create an ad and I'm currently packing a new version.

& I like the ad, no need to be pimped up

@Öskå What exactly is your problem?

2:58 PM
@halirutan actually, the question was directed at why be sorry for self-promotion. It's a nice product, and the ad is fine.
Meeting. Go to go.

I'm having this:
PopupMenu[Dynamic@x, {Plus, Times}, Plus]
Dynamic@x

My aim is to apply those two function to something like {1,2}
Since Dynamic's Head is Dynamic all I get is (Plus){1,2}
I know that it's supposed to be somehow easy but I still don't get it..

@Öskå: do you want something like:
PopupMenu[Dynamic@x, {Plus, Times}, Plus]
Dynamic@(x @@ {1, 2, 3, 4})

Well, in that case it indeed works. I guess that I simplified it too much regarding to my actual case.
The aim is to use it with function such as Plot & to "feed" him with something the user gives via Input:

funlist = {Plot};
Input[Panel[PopupMenu[Dynamic@whichfun, funlist], "blabla"],
Dynamic@whichfun]
I'm sorry to post that here but it's probably too trivial to be asked as a proper question since it's always the same issue with the Head of Dynamic..

@Öskå Can you explain again what you expect your code to do?

3:14 PM
I'm expecting the user to give what is needed to be given (such as x,{x,0,1} for Plot) and to switch within the functions in funlist
Well, to switch within the funlist functions first & then give something like x,{x,0,1}

3:28 PM
Should I ask it as a "real" question?

@Öskå Yes, I think this would be of value.

Did you get anything?

the problem here is, that Input is a modal dialog which gets its initialization at evaluation time.

ah, so it's normal that I'm struggling with that for a few hours :>

@Öskå I would have probably changed how it will work.
For instance open an Input after you selected from the drop down menu

3:35 PM
yeah I thought about that too, but having both in the same panel seemed better to me

3:51 PM
@halirutan feel free to edit the question if you think that I'm too vague :)

1 hour later…
4:56 PM
@Öskå I think it's OK. Let's wait what others say.

5:25 PM
Could someone try to lunch some code? It keeps crashing for me..
Such a crash that the "Open Recent" section is reseted.

5:59 PM
@halirutan I'm only familiar (and only slightly so) with Wolfram Workbench. Can you give me a few advantages of IntelliJ IDEA/your plugin over the workbench? (I've looked at your webpage. Which of these features are different relative to Wolfram's approach?)

3 hours later…
8:37 PM
@bobthechemist I don't know whether this worked, but I invited you to the dedicated chatroom for the plugin
@Calle Yes, I know how to do this if you are still interested

@halirutan ah, I removed my message because I found out how to do it by specifying the full path, do you know how to not have to specify the full path?

As usual: make a symbolic link which points to the correct location.
@Calle To give a specific example. In my terminal, the $PATH variable contains:
echo $PATH
/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/usr/local/cuda/bin:/opt/intel/composer_xe_2011_sp1.8.269/bin/intel64:/opt/intel/composer_xe_2011_sp1.8.269/bin:/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/Users/patrick/build/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/texbin:/usr/X11/bin:/opt/intel/composer_xe_2011_sp1.8.269/mpirt/bin/intel64
These are the locations which are automatically searched.
If I now make a symbolic link in /opt/local/bin like this:
sudo ln -s /Applications/Develop/Mathematica.app/Contents/MacOS/MathKernel /opt/local/bin/MathKernel
I can now start MathKernel from wherever I like.

8:53 PM
@halirutan Yes, that works! Thanks :)

@Calle no problem
