I'm looking for a way to export this : {{1,SpanFromLeft},{2,3}} from Mathematica to Excel, preferably without having Excel installed (on the machine where there is Mathmatica). The difficulty is of course to get a fusionned cell on the Excel side.
I don't want to spend more than 4 hours on this problem. Any advice ?
A solution could be to use a intermediate file and then import in Excel. But what format should have the intermediate file ? a notion of "fusionned cell" is necessary !

Or maybe a solution via python ? (with Xlsxwriter for example)

I have tried to install python - failed (access denied ...) - I give-up.

@andre314 Since it doesn't seem I can "import" such a table from Excel, I see no hope that Mathematica can export it right away.
The easiest way would be to use a Java library for this and write a small program. This would not take 4 hours I guess.

Ok thanks. I will take a look on a Java approach tomorrow.

Is Apache POI the right way to go ?. At a first sight, It seems rather OK

@andre314 It's the first thing I also found. Check the API if it is possible to create merged cells and simply write a small wrapper to export your data
