@JacobAkkerboom I'm still struggling with that compile problem. If we could talk briefly that would be great.

I was playing around with a third party package ( homepage.cem.itesm.mx/lgomez/quantum ), and now somehow these functions Bra[],Ket[] etc are automatically defined when I relaunch Mathematica. Where could they be coming from and how can I find them?
It's also defined InputAliases and MakeBoxes for these commands... all already loaded
OK, I found some of the InputAliases in my init.m, but I don't know why the MakeBoxes is still working (i.e., "Bra[x]" -> "<x|")
It seems they are defined under System`...
Even when I run math -noinit, they are loaded :(

6:31 AM
Oh duh, it turns out Mathematica has builtin support for those aliases and such

Hi, anybody knows where to share and find others' Mathematica Packages?
I mean the packages written by their own with extension beyond the default Mathematica Packages

Q: What third-party packages do you use?

SzabolcsLet's use this thread to post our favourite freely available third-party packages! Instructions Please post only those packages that you actually use yourself (not any package you found) or packages that you created yourself. Each answer should be one package, and should preferab...

This is an improvement to the original Wikicode project mixed with some ideas from Wikidata. The original Wikicode doesn't add much value as a random collection of code snippets because the search engines already do a good job of indexing snippets from blog posts, Stack Exchange, etc. Wikidata essentially associates a database table with each Wikipedia article, which greatly simplifies many synchronized updating scenarios across multiple articles and multiple language versions of the encylopedia. This project will associate a Mathematica module with each article. The inclusion criteria are ...

Maybe not so official or formal, just to save some time. I need functions to extract the piecewise line equations from some data points.
What if I write some functions and want share them with others who might need? That would save some time.

Bravo! Thanks I also have a question about priority queue in Mathematica
I know that with Needs["Parallel`Queue`Priority`"]; I can use priority queue. But the priority queue seems only support integer items. How can I extend it to support more complex data type?

I'd guess that one is used for dispatching tasks to the subkernels during parallel evaluations, so I don't think it is intended to be expanded. I'd just start from scratch with the simplest thing that does what you need and then improve the performance as needed in the future.

Then how can I implement the Indexed priority queue in Mathematica. Do I need to use java class?

9:12 AM
You could. Or you could start with something simple like:
queue = {{a, 3}, {b, 3}, {c, 2}};
push[item_, priority_] := AppendTo[queue, {item, priority}]
pull[] :=
Module[{result = Cases[queue, {_, Max[queue[[All, 2]]]}][[1]]},
queue = DeleteCases[queue, result, {1}, 1]; result]

@novice check the Parallel` package source code. I'm pretty sure Roman Maeder intended for these queue types to be extensible, so you could probably add your own if you wanted. I've never tried it myself, though.

Disney Animated was just selected by Apple as the Best iPad App of 2013! Congratulations to Theodore Gray—one of the Co-founders of Wolfram Research—and Touch Press, his publishing company! As Theodore explained on this Blog earlier this year, important features of Disney Animated would not have been possible without Wolfram technologies. Creating the app required [...]

Huhu hey there @belisarius :).

@JacobAkkerboom What a hat for a cat!

hehe yeah it suits it perfectly imo, the cat was already looking wisely and patiently, this tops it off nicely :)
Good to see were are brothers in hats. Though I must say I liked the ribbon for you too

@JacobAkkerboom The black one?

@JacobAkkerboom I find the hats thing almost boring, but sometimes I'm more bored than that :)

7:28 PM
@belisarius ah yeah I saw some mixed posts by you on the hat matter :P. I like the hats I guess, I am curious when I see I have a new hat. For me it doesn't need to go on for too long I suppose :)

@JacobAkkerboom Once my grandfather was hearing his sons discussing about the oddities of local politicians. He told them: -"They are quite nice. They provide us with some lively conversations"-

@belisarius I suppose you cannot always talk about math and programming :). It is sometimes hard to not be serious about that subject, you end up making awkward nerdy jokes :P

@JacobAkkerboom Have you seen the answer for the fractal dimensions question?
@rm-rf Hi toad!
It's very curious
I'm not sure if I should upvote or downvote it.

7:44 PM
@belisarius hi

@belisarius ah I have no idea if it's good. I'm not sure about what we can use such analysis (measuring factal dimension) for. I'm not gonna vote :)

How can I factor an expression in terms of a set of other expressions? for example, given "variables" {a+b, a-b} then the expression "a" should have coefficients {1/2, 1/2}
using Solve just gives "{{y -> a/(a - b) - ((a + b) x)/(a - b)}}" where x is the other coefficient

@jtbandes Solve[{a + b, a - b} == {x, y}] gives {{a -> x/2 + y/2, b -> x/2 - y/2}}

@Rojo That's strange... this syntax doesn't seem to be documented.
But it's not exactly what I want... I want to go from "a" to "{1/2,1/2}" or e.g. from "a+2b" to "{3/2,-1/2}"

@jtbandes I know
but I thought that was the part you had problems with

@Rojo Hi Red! Wanna an icecream?

@belisarius Yes please
