Dear Valued Customer,

According to our records, you own a Grizzly G0771 10" Hybrid Table Saw.

We recently discovered that the motor pulley on this saw has an over-sized bore, which may prevent the pulley from securing properly to the motor shaft.

During saw operation, an improperly secured motor pulley and its machine key can come off the motor shaft and be thrown with great speed by the rotational force of the motor. If this happens, there is a small chance that the machine key can be ejected through the table opening and strike the operator or bystanders.

@PeterGrace At least it sounds like an easy fix. Now I just wonder how soon "soon" is.

yup
lucky I blew out my back and I'm staying away from the shop!

rob
Ouch, that sounds just as unpleasant as having a machine key ejected at your face.

1:49 AM
Yeah, I blew 3 discs in 2007 and it occasionally re-flares-up
time for more PT exercises.

@rob... im trying to add about 1 a day but failing

@rob All our stats are significantly higher than gamification's were. More avid users, 3x the total users, nearly double the answers/question, more than 15x the visits per day. I wouldn't think they would be good comparison for us here.
@rob I would not buy jack stands from HF, but I did buy an engine hoist and it worked just great the 1 time I've used it...

1:03 PM
I used to buy lots of MasterCraft. I'm starting to get serious with my crafting so considering higher quality tools.

@Matt With some tools it's actually beneficial to have multiples, so buying a bargain brand up front in those cases isn't detrimental, especially if you'd otherwise have to postpone gaining experience--I wish I had realized this much sooner.

@rob Buying one set of tools is hard enough some times.
I have 3 drills of varying quality and I love them all
One is even a Black and Pecker

rob
@FreeMan I don't recall what our stats were after only 20 days...but I think at least we were hitting a solid 5-10 questions a day for a while in the beginning.
@Matt I was given a B&D 12V Li-ion drill and I do use it, but the 2-handed chuck and wimpy motor make it inadequate enough that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as their first cordless drill for woodworking. But my biggest problem with it right now is that I can't figure out where I hid the charger!

@rob I wonder if you can see the stats over time for sites that made it past Beta
@rob Holy crap... have you been sitting on that question for a while

rob
4:23 PM
@Matt It's a question I had on my mind maybe a couple months before the site launched, and I had forgotten about it until I was going to reply to your MasterCraft comment this morning. I started typing a reply, then thought, "Hey, I keep forgetting to post something about that."

So you are saying i am a muse........

4:56 PM
@Matt at least amusing...

slaps knee

5:23 PM
@rob I oiled down my tablesaw with 3-in-1 this morning, you're saying paste wax is better, eh?

rob
6:22 PM
@PeterGrace I've learned it's not wise to say definitively that one table saw treatment is better than another. :D I recommend whatever reduces friction on your saw table, inhibits rust, and doesn't transfer onto your workpieces to cause finishing problems.

@rob SPOKEN LIKE A POLITICIAN!
rob for President 2016

rob
@Matt @bowlturner XD

@PeterGrace hay now! he wouldn't have time to answer questions here!

rob
@PeterGrace ha, are you going to write me in?

Maybe when I get the pulley replaced on the grizzly I'll slather on a couple millimeters of paste wax.

6:26 PM
@bowlturner He would need to stay here. That's how he will get the Wood Worker vote. " I am one of you"

@rob I don't know if the write-in entry field is big enough to accept "That guy rob from woodworking.stackexchange.com"

rob
We need to get a lot more people to join this site if I'm going to win this election.

yep, 4 of us won't quite do... :)

One of us just needs to be famous enough that everyone will latch onto what we say

> He's totally awesome. Trust us.

6:29 PM
Maybe we should look at it the other way! rob becomes president and he promotes woodworking! that would work great!

Bowlturner said that circular saw blades make great earrings.... SALES SOAR!

ughhhh
haha

rob
Maybe we can get Brad Pitt to join the site. I heard he either does woodworking or knows someone who does.

I'm thinking about the diablo 100 tooth finishing blade I put in my 12" sliding compound
just opening the package I got a nasty cut
those new carbide blades are hella sharp.
But, construction lumber will never have a more baby-bottom-smooth end-grain than it will off that blade.

@rob William H. Macy is a very talented woodworker!

6:31 PM
As is Nick Offerman.
Nick Offerman would be a fantastic celebrity to get involved.

They both have great mustaches so its a toss up

@PeterGrace the Diablo has been on my wish list for a long time

@bowlturner I figured "Shit, I just spent all this money on this crazy dewalt miter saw, might as well get a nice blade for it"
It's no forrest but it gets the job done nicely

I just bought the Dewalt 80 tooth blad.
(not recently)

holy moly those forrest blades are expensive

6:34 PM
yep. I have the forest dado set on my wish list too

wow, $333 for the forrest dado set in 10"
I have an avant dado set from home depot
lots of people have said "MY GOD WHY!?"
ya know, the dado is a little messy at the bottom but for god sakes, make a sanding block and sand it down
sheesh

I thought paying 80$ for a blade was awful enough

Well, I'd get the 8" set, but I last I looked it was still close to 250

$50 for that
and then however much time it takes you to sand down the dado
or, $333 for forrest and some saved sanding time every time
so I guess if you use a dado set every day, it pays to have the best.
For me, I break out the dado set once every blue moon

true, I've always managed with my router. That is why I don't have any dado sets
And quite possibly why I may never have one.

6:41 PM
Yeah, that is also a fair point
a router just gets the job done better imho.
I'm a bit bummed, I went down to the shop this morning to measure and see if my Bosch RA1811 table was the right size to mount to my new grizzly tablesaw. Sadly, doesn't fit in the fence channel without some fenagling.
I may yet figure out a way to mount it but it was a bummer.

I didn't think I have asked that many questions but I make up 10 percent of the questions here at WW
~11

Good job!

@bowlturner You have also answered half the overall questions pats back

rob
@PeterGrace my RA1811 was my worst tool purchase ever.

Wow. I know I like to put my two cents in, but didn't realize I was doing that much!

6:48 PM
@rob Oh yeah?
I have thought maybe it was a bad impulse buy in hindsight, just because it was expensive but its features really aren't "to die for"
I'd love to get one of those geared router lifters and make a melamine surface for it.

@bowlturner ... sorry its actually 33%
I misread a number

That seems more reasonable. but still a lot.

rob
7:42 PM
@PeterGrace most of my gripes have to do with the sloppy tolerances and how badly the features are implemented on that router table.
I missed out on the dado set talk...I bought a used 6" Freud dado set, never used it, then bought a used 8" Amana set because the 6" isn't recommended for my saw.
So now I have 1 dado set that I don't use (need to put it on CL) and 1 that I rarely use (too lazy to swap blades...I need another table saw!)

@Matt A launched site's Area51 page does show the site's stats at the end of the beta, but I'm not sure if you can also look up the stats for the private beta.
