Well I got a bit of my wiring done this weekend, and even started putting up some insulation. Figured out where most of the wiring that was there goes. Now I can plug tools into the wall, all around! Need to buy a few more parts. Maybe in a couple weeks I can actually start working on projects!
I finally hauled almost everything out of my garage and put down a floor yesterday. I'm hoping it will be more comfortable to stand on than concrete.
@bowlturner tell us more about your new shop. Is it unfinished, or was the original wiring just inadequate for a shop? Basement, garage, or dedicated outbuilding or addition? Bigger than the old one? How big? ("Not big enough" doesn't count!)
Has anyone ever buried extension cords? I was thinking of laying some pvc to run extension cords to my shed. Eventually I could run actual electrical but I think that is a future issue. I just don't want to have to move the cords everytime I mow the lawn.
@rob it's about 20'x28', it's on the back of the garage with it's own garage door (basically a large one stall. there was 2 outlets in it and one of them was broken. Walls studs so I ran plugs around the walls.
It's a bit smaller than the last one, 30'x36' but I don't need to store my lumber in it, so should be large enough. but I'm building it with all my tools in it, so a bit of a pain.
so if you're going to dig a trench, put the wires in a proper conduit so they are protected, and at that point you are 90% of the way to a proper, permanent installation
get the correct cable and you can just bury it, you can use conduit if you want, especially if you are afraid of digging into it later, but I'm just burying the cable when I get to it.
I got stuck inside a Free Game machine at a miniputt for 2 minutes being electrocuted. I could move or use my hands for the next 40 minutes. Stupid bastards didn't put marrets where they twisted wires.
Hands down I was going to lay the pipe. I'm a cheap bastard and don't want to pay an electrician so I need to work up the courage to do it myself or bug my uncle
Yeah, I don't really like working inside the electric box. The nice thing is my garage panel is a subpanel of the house, so I can turn that one off when I put my new breaker in there.
