Is this question on-topic? It's related to starting a small business, which is partly on-topic, even if it's not about freelancing, contracting, etc.

I should add that a question like this could definitely relate to "self-employment" or independent employment, even though it's quite different from the usual freelancing questions we get that revolve around software development. I'm not sure about this question, though, because it does seem broad and simply a research question.
