My name is John and i'm 23 yo and I'm concluding my 2ºnd degree in Software Engineering. And I am seeking your advice.

The curriculum for the course I'm taking has us learning the ins and outs of the C language first year, assembly with MIPS, and processing for the end of 2nd semester (self-contained entry-level Java game-making IDE). Second year is Java and Third year is networking and AI.

My problem is, I want to follow a direction that eventually leads to AI, Nanotechnology and eventually applications in Biogerontology. And I don't see how Java can help me achieve that, as every recomm

@JohnConnor Java is super useful because it lets you explore software engineering topics without having to deal with the low-level baggage that C++ implies. I like C++ very much, but it's an awful tool for teaching.
Education is not just about building concrete skills (like knowing how to develop and evaluate AI models) but about building a solid foundation upon which you can build specialized skills.
It may be worth pointing out that software engineering courses don't generally feature nanotechnology and gerontology. If that is your real interest, you might be in the wrong course?

@amon I see, I guess i'll keep on going with java then. Much appreciated :)

I don't necessarily like Java, but it's a pretty good platform for learning about GUI programming, and about software engineering issues like design patterns and unit testing.
A lot of the resulting skills are ultimately transferable between languages.
