Since one of the best ways to learn about something is by doing, I would like to learn more about distributed systems with perhaps some networking topics sprinkled in. I've thought about implementing my own email server as an option, or perhaps creating my own p2p cluster using some Raspberry Pis. Would be curious to hear from the community what your thoughts are about this and if you've found a particular course/book helpful.

Note: I'm completing the excellent nand2tetris course which has been a phenomenal experience. One of the best courses I've taken.

what's the best stack to ask "what algorithms are available to solve this problem in a computationally optimal way?"
SO? math? here?

@Federico There's some overlap between Software Engineering, Stack Overflow, and Computer Science regarding such questions, but the sites clearly have different focus. CS might be most appropriate when asking about an algorithm. Recommendation questions are always difficult though, and are usually not a good fit for the Q&A model.

the thing is that I am not asking for a recommendation, if an algorithm is optimal or not is not a matter of opinion, it should have been proved in a paper.
but I'm asking on the main meta to see if there is a general consensus on where to ask

@Federico That is a good indication that the question is answerable, though in practice provably optimal algorithms don't exist very often, or aren't optimal in practice: O(n) complexity class doesn't matter for bounded n.

NoSQL climbed up the charts as the next big thing in system architecture in 2011, but overall interest in it has plateaued recently. You’ve may have heard of it and ignored it, safe in the knowledge that you can always have a an SQL command line at your fingertips. But what is NoSQL, what does…

Hi, I'm currently developing an app to share content (like many existing social media) with the difference that it is more about giving value to user's interactions instead of selling ads. Right now, we basically assigned an arbitrary value to each interaction (for ex: 1 point for likes, 2 points for comments, etc)
Right we just store this points in a database table (user, interaction type, points, etc) but I'm thinking about using blockchain in order to ensure transparency and security. Is there anyway I can get more information about how to achieve this?
I'm not sure this is question for this site, it sounds too ambiguous for stackoverflow
