Hey TW folks, I was wondering if there's a way to ask a question in a way that would be on topic here
Before I formulate it fully, can I run the general gist of by you here and see if it would be vaguely on topic here or elsewhere?
Assuming yes... the problem I am trying to solve is to extract metadata (level, players, objectives) from the loading screen text of a game. Naive OCR on a still from a video gets a reasonable amount, and manual cropping gets me further still. However, there are issues with accuracy (to be expected) and text elements moving, so I am wondering about incorporating something like OpenCV into the mix
However, as the xkcd goes I am not really sure where the line between "ten minutes with some standard libraries" and "grad research team" is
I'm an automation hobbyist so my computer vision-fu is weak
So: would it be reasonable to ask about design approaches in solving this kind of problem? In that scenario, I would imagine answers would take the form of (eg) "Your image is too noisy for CV. if you're getting it from a video, try blanking pixels whose values change by x% to eliminate the background..." or "If you know roughly where the ROIs are, you can give hints to CV engines" etc
I am happy to make a meta post if that would be more helpful :)
