@Rachel Re your flag on this question. We will review each close / delete candidate after the cleanup ends (Wed 7). If a question didn't get attention and re-opened by the community, then it will be up to the mod that reviews it to decide what to do... The expiring votes are a problem, but a problem I don't know how to solve (I'll ask).
@Rachel I don't see any of its answers fitting one of the two possible duplicates, I don't like killing answers just to salvage a crap question.

Android.SE got a contest up, and ours kinda fell through a bit. I say we get back on track, even if it's not a Birthday Celebration.

A: Programmers Birthday Celebration?

JaeThanks to the Programmer Contest Conspiracy Room, I think we have found a celebration activity. It is a "Concept a Week" event, based on that of Philosophy.SE (I am not sure if it is going on still, though). Basically, each week there will be a new "concept". If you ask a question about, or hav...

We need fresh ideas for this thing. I honestly think we can do something amazing with this site. We just have to find it...
First room was frozen. Look at it to see how far we got.

@Rachel To clarify my earlier comment: This applies only to questions in the Structured Tag Cleanup.
@Jae Hey are you here?
There are some new ideas for a contest... Right now we have two major things going on, the blog and the structured tag cleanup, so preferably we will reboot the contest idea after the cleanup ends and the blog goes live. We never got much community support for the contest when we didn't have major activities going on, so I really don't want to bring it up now, people won't pay much attention.
All that said, after about a month, the contest will probably be our next big thing. Hopefully we can get it right. You've shown a lot of interest in the past efforts and I would really appreciate it if you volunteered to be our point man when we reboot the discussion... No need to commit right now, I will ping you when the time comes. We'll organize it a bit better this time, probably go for a smaller scale event...
Having the blog live will also help advertise the event a bit better than Meta...

Let's argue about whether Haskell or Clojure is better while somebody else ships products using PHP and duct tape.

Q: Testing chainable method calls return type and value

user1139554Is it worth testing the return type and value of a method call that is designed for chaining? It is conceivable that a fellow programmer could accidentally change the return type to void and remove the return while furiously refactoring some methods. This would potentially break a lot of code for...

A new user posting an on topic question? What trickery is this?

@YannisRizos: Ya I agree. When the time comes, I would be happy to be the point man. Thanks!

@YannisRizos Fault Tolerance in a High Volume, Distributed System. Man! It's really good. This article is even lighter zguide.zeromq.org/page:all
and a better alternative provided one is good at implementation
@YannisRizos You seem to read a lot of articles though

Q: What is the best way to stay on the cutting edge of Software Engineering?

Walker DI was asked this (What is the best way to stay on the cutting edge of Software Engineering?), and it's really bothered me that I didn't have a good answer. There are really two parts to this question: Where is a good place (websites - magazines) to go to learn about emerging technologies, fram...

Do the SO mods know that is being cleaned up?

@Hi Jae! I still believe that UX is a site to gather user experience for front end. (the presentation aspect). Can you elaborate a bit about it?

12:03 PM
@Jae Probably not. However if you check back on Stack Overflow the question was migrated by regular users.
The career tag was added post migration by programmers.stackexchange.com/users/11741/jmquigley
I've left a comment and hope he'll see it.

I want advice one what should i show to the employer when he asks for 'concrete and solid examples' of my skills. I am not an 'Open source enthusiast' and do not have any code implemented and flying on net. I just used to do regular assignment while at college and regular tasks while at work.
(P.S : i tried to figure it out hard and long that where should this question be posted i.e Area 51, SO or SE etc etc. Obviously i didnt had a clue to it so its here)

@MuhammadSalman Unfortunately, although P.SE is the closest fit for your question, it would likely be closed here since career-related questions are considered off-topic. Feel free to post it anyways and you might get a good answer out of it

Q: Is it too hard to re-open questions by the community on SE sites other than SO?

RachelCurrently users get a single re-open vote for the lifetime of a question, and that re-open vote will expire in 4 days. This 4-day limit can be extended if someone else votes to re-open within that 4 days, however this only resets the 4-day timer and once it expires, all votes expire at a rate of ...

Is it odd that I would lose a couple hundred reputation in one afternoon? It looks like someone went through and deleted a several of my questions/answers. Was there some sort of clean up today? The reason I ask is because that has never happened to me before and I wanted to make sure that I had not done something wrong.

@aceinthehole, look at meta.programmers.stackexchange.com, see the message at the top?

@RebeccaChernoff ah.. thanks, there it is plain as day, I should keep up more... Thanks!

@aceinthehole s'all good

hello! maybe i'm not in the right place here but i'll just try: do you know any place (e.g. a website) where one can find people for simple coding jobs? i'm talking about coding jobs such as "porting a small program from Ada to Java". is there any platform that brings demanders to suppliers? (i know, a good programmer does the job on his own. but one should also know when it is better to distribute work ...)
