@Shog9 In the past, we've also had a laundry-list of subjects that were on-topic here. See Anna... er, Adam's post, above. Each subject had its own set of caveats (a teasing apart of the topic to determine which questions could be asked, and which couldn't). None of the subjects had much to do with each other, except that they had something to do with programming. Nobody understood how this worked, or the rationale behind it.

The "picture full of text" is a single subject area...SDLC. It clearly illustrates what that means. Any subject in that area is on-topic as long as it relates directly to the SDLC (i.e. it doesn't stray into "pickles as a programmer" territory). I have to believe that's simpler than what we had.

If that isn't clear enough for people, we have an entire Wikipedia article to explain it further.

We have no illusions that new people will read that and ask the right questions...That's what I'm hoping the site title will do. But we can point to it and say "this is our scope" without arguing endlessly about intricacies.

@RobertHarvey to be clear, I like SDLC == Site Scope. My point was simply that the picture probably doesn't simplify this much given you still have to read it. The bright side here is that learning what SDLC means is probably a good thing for most folks interested in the site anyway, so if nothing else we're educating people who wouldn't otherwise give a shit.
