Giving your ♦ the benefit of the doubt, I guess I must be missing something that explains why this question isn't entirely too broad. Did you read the C# specification? The behavior is intentional and not obscure at all. There are many examples of "practical utility", far too many to describe in a Stack Overflow answer. then that variable will be an object, and we can call methods on it, unlike primitive data types

String is the class java.lang.String you can find its documentation at: docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/java/lang/String.html

@RobertHarvey @ThomasOwens I just figured that current grammar we propose for not-about section of help center makes it rather hard to plug it in after words "not about...". Can we maybe somehow rephrase to the same meaning but in a way that would more naturally look when written after "not about..."?

@gnat Ideally, I'd like to move all of that stuff to the /help/dont-ask page. I want /help/on-topic to only be about things that you can ask here. It's not mod-editable, but we can ask the CMs to put it there. We're going on the assumption that people probably aren't going to read that far down the help/on-topic page anyway, so breaking it up makes the pages smaller and more logical.

@ThomasOwens I see, that makes sense. What's your take on how to approach that "not about" section in help/on-topic page? Do we plan to ask SE to just remove that section from our page (this will likely require some dev effort), or do we make some text to put it there?

@gnat The /help/on-topic is mod editable. It just won't be there.

Of course, if SE can't or won't add it to dont-ask, it will have to go somewhere.

@ThomasOwens oh I see now! so the plan is like this, if SE agrees to edit help/don't ask we put these statements there, there will be no need to change their current wording in this case (and we will remove "not about" from help/on-topic). If they don't then we tweak the wording a little and put them in "not about". Or maybe remove or rephrase the "not about" to match, since it is mod editable

@gnat The not about is going to be somewhere, it's just a matter of where. The only thing I want to make sure of is that it isn't too verbose.
