Stack Overflow Blog: Stack Exchange API V2.0 Public Beta

More than a year and a half ago we unveiled the first version of the Stack Exchange API to the wider world.  Since then we’ve had a minor point release, improved app and script listing, and shared some statistics about the consumers of our API.

I’ve been pretty pleased with version 1.1, stackexchange.com and our chat software make extensive use of it, there are a good number of useful applications listed, and a couple of parties are pulling interesting statistics out using it.  It’s been a success, but the shine’s definitely come off; there are some use cases we didn’t support, some missing features, and just some plain-old mistakes. …

@Yannis: I was just gonna say the same thing. Never before have I flagged so many posts in such a short period of time. On the plus side: it does bring me closer to the Marshal badge

@PersonalNexus They keep on coming... 10 latest questions are just plain bad, I never remember seeing so many of those in such short time... Flag fodder, to be sure... Good luck on the elusive marshal badge, I got stuck at flag weight 684, after reaching 3k rep, flags are kind of pointless (unless there's spam, and fortunately there isn't so much of that)...

Q: Are we scaring off new users?

@YannisRizos Thanks for sharing the Data Explorer queries. Good work. I'm not sure, though, how much value I would add going over old questions. I think I am doing more good "policing" the home page and flagging questions as they come in. Thankfully(?) I am still far way from the 3k rep limit, so I cherish the illusion that I actually have a shot at the Marshal badge (which I just noticed nobody has earned yet).

@PersonalNexus Well, I've cleaned up most old questions, that's how I got to 684 :) Of course newer questions are more important, but there are some really bad answers on old questions that never got cleaned up. And the early days of the site where a little chaotic, many questions from that era still survive... Read some of the older meta questions and you'll see what I mean... But newer questions are more important, certainly.

Does anyone have a good idea for a programming thesis?
I'll try to narrow it down: I can use java, VB.NET and a bit of C. I'm especially interested in Networking (sockets, file transfer and possibly multilayer games).
I've also been looking at hardware programming using chips such as arduino, and I was thinking about making a solar panel which flattens down on the ground when there's a lot of wind to minimize damage. There would be much more technical and mechanical work than programming though. All of the useful ideas, such as Solar Tracking, have been taken already :)
