There's a reason it's called "booting"; the term is short for "bootstrapping", as in, "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps". — KeithS Oct 24 '12 at 15:37
huh... frak me... so obvious yet I've never realised the connection

I think this may fit in Programmers.se better. Others may dislike this question here. I'd say that for simple things (that you have time to implement) it's a great approach, but sometimes you need to just see what others did right away. — Volodya 16 secs ago

Faulty discussions on Hacker News illustrate imminent risk to national information infrastructure due to pervasive failure to understand and apply key stretching techniques in critical software systems among the country's finest practitioners. news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10442789

looking at Vagrant - confusing myself because of the differences to my Docker workflow -.-
I guess I don't want to have to create a VM every time CI needs to run a build
OTOH, I like the isolation aspect and don't want a single VM being reused all the time
soooo maybe I do need to just have a VM built each time ... after building my own set of boxes (much like my Docker images). and to build my own boxes I need to get to grips with Packer
this is spiralling out of control ^_^
(need to pack my own boxes because I'll need my toolchain on them, and frak if I'm provisioning all that on every VM instantiation! would add half an hour to some of my builds lol)

Thanks @torontolibrary and @KCLibrary for throwing down the next edition of #bookspinepoetry on #cbcnn #ComeTogether http://snpy.tv/1Meeo2z

@MichaelT I did, and the KPL (my public library) joined in a little at the end. It was fun to watch.

(I follow TPL stuff, because they're great and I have vague plans of moving to Toronto eventually. I want to move there, I just have to sort out my life so I can, if that makes sense?)

You should post this on Programmers.SE and delete your question here. — René G 48 secs ago

@RenéG this question is a very poor fit for Programmers - it would be quickly voted down and closed over there, see meta.programmers.stackexchange.com/a/6488/40980 Recommended reading: What goes on Programmers.SE? A guide for Stack Overflowgnat 24 mins ago
arghhhhh comma abuse!
ooh think I got my i686 Centos6 docker image working
might not have to fuss about with Vagrant and Packer after all
well, until someone asks for a Windows build environment - but that's a whole other kettle of fish anyway
praps next week I can move on and start exploring Jenkins to actually use these damn images

Questions that ask "where do I start" are typically too broad and are not a good fit for this site. People have their own method for approaching the problem and because of this there cannot be a correct answer. Give a good read over Where to Start, then address your post. — Kyll 58 secs ago
