@enderland eh?
I love the history of "werewolf"
See, "man" didn't always mean "man". It used to just mean "human". So you have "man" (or "human"), "woman" for the female of the species, and "wereman" for the male of the species. Then it was a natural progression to call a sort of bloke/wolf combo a "werewolf", a term which stuck long after the SJW got their claws on "man" and made everyone think it was synonymous with "wereman" such that nobody's actually allowed to use it any more.

user55340
I'm sure there are weremen in some anime.

@MichaelT I'm sure that's just disturbing. Sure of it.

Ranma ½ (Japanese: らんま½, Hepburn: Ranma Nibun-no-Ichi, pronounced Ranma One-Half) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi. It was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from September 1987 to March 1996, with the chapters collected into 38 tankōbon volumes by Shogakukan. As a result of an accident during a training journey, he is cursed to become a girl when splashed with cold water, while hot water changes him back into a boy. Throughout the series Ranma...

@JimmyHoffa I saw anime once in college, years ago. That spoiled it for me: now I run screaming from the concept despite reassurances that not all anime involves tentacles and... stuff.

There is much good anime out there.

@GlenH7 why do you want to take pictures of kids? :/

Yep.

It works.

I suppose if it recorded all light hitting the sensor at all angles, maybe
that's hardly "light traveling in every direction throughout a scene" though

@LightnessRacesinOrbit go look at their gallery online, they have an online flash widget thingy where you can see the pictures in your browser and refocus them all you want

user55340
The sensor isn't flat. It has depth.

@JimmyHoffa I'm not saying there's no refocus ability. I was saying it was probably faked with trickery.
But we've moved on ^_^
@MichaelT ok
surprisingly inexpensive considering

@LightnessRacesinOrbit well it's certainly not magic, surely they have some trick up there sleeve - but it does provide the claimed results:

user41796
it's about $50 cheaper than a new S1

user55340
4:38 PM
It's about the expected life span of the device. A SLR is a decade or so with the glass multi decade.

user55340
A Nikon 1 is in that SLR area.

user55340
I was thinking coolpix or the like.

user55340
Mirror less interchangeable lenses cameras straddle the line. They are quite reasonable.

user41796
Ah, ok. I dug a bit further and found new-in-box S1s for about $10 more than the refurb. Doesn't have prime shipping on that, but shipping fees are comparatively cheap

user41796
And in comparing the S1 to the S2, I don't think I'd take advantage of the S2s features as I don't shoot videos very often.

@Snowman yeah, I don't really mind, it's good experience but... meh

user114359
I definitely sympathize with having fewer headaches regardless of other factors. The stress might not be worth it

@Snowman it'd be better if I wasn't doing fairly unengaging and boring work, too...

Can you do DI without constructor, method or property injection?
Should you?

definitely looks like I'm going to have to use Vagrant alongside Docker; tried a few little tricks in my CentOS containers to get 32-bit builds going properly, but I don't think it's flexible/safe enough for now and for future scaling ... and I was already uncomfortable with the hack level, so...
on the upside this'll make it a lot easier to sell to cash-strapped management that we need beefier hardware now

@RobertHarvey What other option is there?

The guy that wrote JMockit apparently thinks there's another way, but I don't see how.

user114359
5:45 PM
@RobertHarvey Maybe bytecode instrumentation? Seems like a roundabout and complex way to do it, but it should be possible. Although, there is an argument to be made that it is a very Rube Goldberg way to do one of the other injection methods you stated.

anyone recommend a good Java JSON parser

6:27 PM
@Ampt gson

lol that's what I just chose to use!

jackson is good too but I haven't tried it.

@RobertHarvey it frankly doesn't make sense what you're saying. Either the dependency was given as a parameter, or set as a property; there are literally not other ways to pass dependencies around

@Ampt I'm probably the guy to ask about it too, is my #5 tag on SO.

psr
@JimmyHoffa You could do crazy stuff like rebuild the code to use a test double instead of a real dependency - this doesn't require any changes to the code for the real class, it can think it's calling a hard-coded dependency directly.

6:38 PM
@psr what does "hard-coded dependency" even mean? is it a property? Did something set it? Did it get set by a parameter? I don't even know what's going on anymore. Maybe the guys calling ServiceLocator "injection"
maybe he's invented an alternate reality where nothing makes sense and my world is an ocean of pudding full of spaghetti fish

@durron597 so is the best way to handle it to just make a class for everything you expect in your Json string?

6:52 PM
@Ampt it's pretty graceful actually. You can use the @SerializedName annotation if you want things to be less 1:1, and you can use a custom serializer / deserializer if you want more complicated differences.

interesting.
I don't think that will be a problem - all the data is from one source and is fairly well standardized
but it's always something to consider.

I can tell it is Friday :)

@GlenH7 this is pure. PURE. evil
if you are on the build team, you could somehow make your build work for 90% of users every day, based on some hash of their username or something, and then cause ridiculous confusion

user41796
@enderland Isn't it though?

user41796
Can't think of a better way to teach someone a lesson about not crossing the wrong people...

psr
8:39 PM
@GlenH7 If you're going to do that, don't forget to make your pre-processing layer skip the homoglyphs that must remain homoglyphs to avoid having terrible things happen at run time.

user114359
@psr escape sequences for the real ones

psr
@Snowman No, you want them to like the other ones in the source code. That way when they run the generic homoglyph->expectedglyph converter they will think it worked.

8:48 PM
@Snowman just one, so I can have this on a second monitor and not feel totally awkward if someon ewalks by

user114359

user114359
@enderland I have to scroll up more than an entire screen on my second monitor to get to a cat picture.

8:49 PM
@Snowman yeah, it's annoying, I can see a process writing about 70gb worth of data (lol) but the total size of everything is still only 36gb about, but the drive space goes down a fair bit as if it's writing all that filespcae
@GlenH7 it's a specific drive, not sure how to handle that
@GlenH7 but that's promising
well it has a max space of 7gb
so presumably it'd blow stuff away after hta tpoint

Q: Add the lang-mumps module from Prettify

senshinAs of late, I have been writing a number of answers on CodeGolf.SE, using MUMPS (or a close variant) as my language of choice. MUMPS tends to look remarkably like line noise, whether or not you're trying to golf it. Some syntax highlighting sure would help. Luckily! The main Prettify repository...

^^^ important feature request

MichaelTI've been accused of having questions that are too blue sky-y or green fieldy and not white boardy enough. What does this mean and why do those questions get closed?

user114359
I blame @MichaelT for that assault on the English language :-)

@GlenH7 no in this context two words for whiteboard look intended play of words: green, blue, white. @Snowman please consider this

hmm I guess there are in use "0kb" files which must take up considerable disk space (they are in use and related to the processes running)
I wonder how a file can be written but not have any update on the size from windows perspectiev

user114359
@gnat well it can be edited back easily enough

user41796
9:02 PM
@gnat Would need to be "white boards" then

user41796
> Green fields, blue skies, and white boards - what is too broad?

@GlenH7 that one is really tricky. To me, board still feels like a better fit than boards here (but that's totally subjective)

user41796
The article "the" makes it problematic though. The singular board breaks the pattern of plurals preceding it. So you lose a bit of the play

@gnat Me too.

As it's @MichaelT's question, he probably ought to get to weigh in on the wordsmithing too

user41796

... and the big, empty, omg-it's-scary-blank, white board - what ...

@GlenH7 plural makes a weaker connection to original (white board is easier to grok as reminder of whiteboard)

@gnat I can see that perspective as well. As it's rare for most to have multiple whiteboards available.

"a whiteboard"

user41796
I've got two of them in my cube, but that's only because I scavenged one

now I want to edit to have "a whiteboard"

@GlenH7 I suspect that he will say that the only correct spelling of that title is Stop dumping the f#cking broad questions at Programmers front page
