This is a question which I have answered. I don't know if we can hope for an attempt from asker, but probably a source of the formula could have been mentioned. I see that there is a close vote. The asker has indicated the techniques to be used so that there is some idea of their skill set. If this needs closure, we can proceed with that and maybe I can delete the answer and just give a reference to the paper of Berndt in comments.

Big sigh :( Yet another Collatz Conjecture proof, OP seeking verification. @user21820, @Xander ....

@amWhy Your link doesn't seem to go to the right place?

@user21820 math.stackexchange.com/q/4104712/9003 Does that one work?

@amWhy Yea voted.

@user21820 Have have not had much luck when using the "share" below posts. Thanks for notifying me!

@ParamanandSingh I think it lacks context because the asker does not say why a solution is expected nor why it should use "complex analysis, Mellin transforms, Infinite series".
@amWhy I don't click on the "share" link. Instead, I right-click and press the appropriate key to "copy link location".

I asked how this should solve the conjecture and received a cryptic reply. The author is apparently convinced that this solves it.

@RRL 1 more downvote to delete PSQ4

The Collatz "proof" is open for deletion: math.stackexchange.com/questions/4104712/…

I think this question is very lacking in effort.

@user21820 Open for deletion.
Thanks, @Xander, for offering the fifth vote to close on the Collatz "proof"

@TeresaLisbon Gone!
@TeresaLisbon One more downvote, and it'll be open for deletion.

@amWhy Going with the policy of leaving comments on answers to poor questions, let's see what happens, but that can only be found out tomorrow!

@TeresaLisbon I upvoted both you left on the question addressed in my last message above! I was able to delete a dozen questions, and one answer, from the "mod tools" page in one can access from the review queue. It' had been a week or two since I was last there, and I got rid of a majority of posts with two delete votes.

@amWhy Thanks!

@TeresaLisbon If I click on your link it says: "Page not found. We couldn't find the page you requested. We did, however, find some guys with an even more serious problem."

@vitamind I should look through my history and I'll retrieve the question.
@vitamind I think it's this one.
DONE!

@amWhy You can take a look at this. This is the situation when I leave comments.

@HereToRelax Good spot, the question doesn't have a problem, the answer seems okay, so undeletion is a good possibility.
@XanderHenderson Thank you for stepping in.

@TeresaLisbon The question was deleted by the author after getting an answer. This is not appropriate behaviour---you can raise a flag on these. That being said, it looks like CURED handled it faster.

@XanderHenderson Good point, although I did not for the exact reason you mention, namely that CURED was quick to it. I have to inform you that I have today decided to leave comments on users' threads who have posted answers to (clear) PSQs. Therefore, I may be present on more than one thread that contains messages similar to that for which the user we saw earlier was warned.

@TeresaLisbon Just keep it civil, please.

7:15 PM
If you wish that I avoid such behaviour, then it will be done if you can give me an alternative that goes beyond flagging, because for all the flags I give, I don't think I'm quite able to get the point across directly, and I wished to do that after some incidents I found a little discouraging.
I will be civil. This is my first priority.

@XanderHenderson Teresa has kept it civil. Good advice for mods, though.
@TeresaLisbon Since Xander has decided to erase history below the answer, I have nothing to go on except
Xander's words, thinking he makes for a better commenter.

7:30 PM
@amWhy I see, no problem. I just wanted to inform you that this was a result of the "comment on every answer to a PSQ" policy that I carried out as a trial today. Let's leave the details out for now.

I'm just perplexed that mods spend more time scolding users trying to improve this site, than on scolding users who continue to drag this site into the sewers. Ironic, because they rely on users to do work in the sewers so they don't have to, but them slap them in the face. I'm really thinking it's time mods experience this site without our help, save for us flagging for moderator attention on every incidence of poor quality questions, questions needing closure, deletion, ditto re: answers.
I think it is high time to promote a strike on moderating, as regular users, this site... we'll see the close queue skyrocket in excess of 1000, mods won't be able to disappear for a week, or a month, or a year, at a time.... Perhaps they will start focusing on the real problems on this site.
@Xander, please delete a comment by an uncivil, offensive commentator: math.stackexchange.com/questions/4104127/… I've also flagged it. Please, at least demonstrate that you don't merely target CURED users to scold. And Please scold that user like you frequently scold users here.
@TeresaLisbon That comment is unacceptable. I have flagged it for mod attention, linked it to Xander here, and encourage to all disturbed by the comment to flag the comment for mod attention, and to express your desire that Xander or some other moderator deal with the linked post, as well. Power only comes with numbers!
^^^speaking of the comment from the answerer.

@amWhy Thanks. I've found that I am developing a thick skin somewhat. I hope this doesn't reduce my sensitivity, but for sure it strengthens my resolve. I will say, however, that there are also nice people who have responded positively to my feedback. The end result is that we will be able to isolate users who are receptive to those who are not. While being receptive is not enough, it solves half the problem.

@TeresaLisbon It seems the offensive comment is gone, but, as usual, no sanctions doled out to a user who is chronically rude.

@amWhy We will keep going, cajoling them, chiding them, poking them till they clean up their act. I have no issues not letting up. Yes, some comments sections will get heated, but I have promised to keep it civil on my side.

@TeresaLisbon Absolutely! And for me, too, many times. Thanks for your work. But I have to reiterate that I have never witnessed a single "uncivil* comment from you. It seems mods are too reluctant to say the same to chronic PSQ answerers. E.g., note, @Xander failed to comment to the user whose comment was deleted, "Please keep it civil". Talk about a double standard!!
@TeresaLisbon Keeping it civil annoys abusers of this site more than anything. If only mods handled such chronic abuse by some answerers as a priority, and not attacking us in this room.

@amWhy Hey, thanks for that. It seems that we are the troublemakers for closing and deleting questions and informing users what they are doing wrong, rather than those who facilititate wrongdoing on the site and then abuse to top it up. I have no problem if somebody wishes to reform, but abuse is a sign of losing balance and having no semblance of logic whatsoever.
A moderator has said that the will of the community must be enacted. But I don't think that the will of the community must supercede what is an existing RULE of the community. Why were the rules made in the first place? We wanted the site to fit a certain image. The moderators must be ready to fight for this image to be preserved, as much as the "majority" may not want it. That I am having to fight gives me pride, but I need support from above.
Note : I have left a comment on every answer of every question I have referenced above for either deletion or closure. It is my humble request, since I am about to depart , that if the conversation is continued, then for the sake of civility people pick up from where I left off, and flag comments which are offensive. Thank you all.

8:05 PM
@TeresaLisbon And support from your friends ;-) Which you have!

@amWhy Thank you, I hope I can reciprocate our friendship. You have been very kind to me.

Thanks, @Xander, for the closure on the "roadmap" tags post on meta!! +1.
