@amWhy I would appreciate if you could check out gimusi's answering pattern tho. Consistent low effort answers with immediate upvotes and downvotes on nearly all answers on the same question.
Oh, I disagree, if you think that someone else will answer before you just don't write the answer, or write full answer and if someone else post the answer before you move to a different question. If you post half answer you can confuse the OP
@Holo: it also helps avoid the situation where you start, someone else starts 5 mins later, you finish, then when they finally finish they see you already answered, leaving them feeling embarrassed because they posted basically the same as you, or leaving them feeling irritated if they throw away all that work.
So if you're about to write a long answer it might be more collegial to "mark the territory" quickly, so nobody else starts, and then write a full answer.
its also frustrating cuz there are certain users that you can tell only read the first sentence of the question and write a quick hint that is clearly not pertinent or could be more relevant
@CarlMummert "mark the territory" how exactly? if you just write vague line of thought and I post full answer that full this line of thought, then you edit your answer to be similar to mine, am I in the wrong or you?
Holo: nobody is absolutely "wrong", but you could always wait a while to see if they expand their answer, or leave a comment below it. Of course, you can also ignore the whole "embarrassed to duplicate" thing and write your own answer.
I hate to be name dropping, but the biggest user I see doing this all the time, other than gimusi, is Mohammad Riazi-Kermani. He'll just ignore the whole question, which usually involves the user asking for help down a certain line of thought, and just gives a hint in a totally irrelevant direction
Carl, I see your point but I still think it is wrong, at least at some levels. In the example I sent the answer start at 1 line and got edit 4 times to become a good answer
@paulplusx Up for deletion. It's anyway trivial to find the answer using Google or Wikipedia, so it's a no-effort question, not to say more suitable for HSM SE.
@amWhy Up for deletion.
@RushabhMehta The askers also try to mark their territory:
I get really frustrated, sometimes, at the lack of folks around here between say, two hours prior to this post, and the new UTC day. This time slot is ripe for crap.
@Holo No, not at the time zones... just that between 20:00 and 0:00 UTC time, this room seems to empty somewhat, and it happens to be a time that a lot of crappy questions flood the site. But maybe it empties because I'm in the chatroom.
It is true that there is a lull sometimes between 23:00 and 0:00 site wide. Plus, by the end of the UTC day, folks may be running low on votes of many sorts.
@Holo Yes, I realize this site is rather international, and from many different time zones. And people also need to eat, which is what I should be doing now!
@amWhy it is a little joke I had with some people, because I have really unhealthy lifestyle I am joking with saying that the correct lifestyle is for weaks
| @MichaelHardy If I can show that it has a zero off the critical line in the neighborhood of infinity, then I would attempt to parlay that into a disproof of RH. – Jonathan Tooker 1 min ago
@RushabhMehta Your comments about snark and "simple formulae" have little to do with my question: where can I find a formula for zeta that is already integrated? Please refrain from making off-topic posts, they are unhelpful. — Jonathan Tooker6 mins ago
@JonathanTooker I'd recommend cutting the snarky remarks if you seek to have your question answered. And no, you won't escape the "integral" form of the zeta function because there is no simple formula you can plug into, since there are no simple functions we have to describe its result/ — Rushabh Mehta10 mins ago
@RushabhMehta I've since flagged the question for mod attention, and directed attention to the string of rude, disrespectful comments from the asker, too many to flag them all.
@RushabhMehta Great! Users over 20K can vote to delete immediately. One delete vote now cast! Else, in two days, users with 10K or more rep can join in. Hopefully a mod will cast a a delete vote to settle the matter before then. I've pinned the original post, but should probably replace it with a request for delete votes.
Not only is this questionvery problematic, the asker has dug himself in deeper with rude and disrespectful comments, in addition to pure rubbish. Deletion votes requested.
@RushabhMehta ironically the fastest way is to answer PSQ, of course, don't go and do that
@RushabhMehta I also want more 15k to be able to cast delete vote fast :), but lately I answer less questions because I am getting lazy to write full answer
