Is the following question not a question lacking context?

Q: Is it true that $0.999999999\dots=1$?

Michael HarenI'm told by smart people that $$0.999999999\dots=1$$ and I believe them, but is there a proof that explains why this is?

user131753
Why isn't it closed, then?

2:12 PM
@user170039 That question is asked over and over and over again on this site. I get the impression that the question to which you have linked was settled upon as the ur-question to which to link all other copies of that question.

@XanderHenderson What is an "ur"-question?

wow are these guys in the same course? one two same question only 20 hours apart

5:43 PM
@PeterSheldrick That, or it's the same user with two different accounts. I closed the more recent question as a duplicate of the older question. Thanks for noticing!

yeah maybe its the same guy

Low-quality PSQ answered by the usual.

@SimplyBeautifulArt \o/ Yay! TGIS!!

:D
On spring break so yay
I guess I'll continue chatting in my other chat?

Frankly I think this PSQ should be deleted.

@user170039 ur

This PSQ is ready for deletion, @SimplyBeautifulArt, @user21820, @Did, @ProfessorVector, @ZacharySelk, @all

@SimplyBeautifulArt Yes, I've started with two other close votes...
@SimplyBeautifulArt Caught two others, along with a delete vote.

@SimplyBeautifulArt Review this user
Requiring downvote for deletion.

@SimplyBeautifulArt 1 more delete vote for each, needed.
@SimplyBeautifulArt Can't dv again (I'm one of the two dv's).

@SimplyBeautifulArt shakes head.... adds dv and vtc

@SimplyBeautifulArt "Downvoting for deletion" is hardly in agreement with the aim of the vote system.

@ProfessorVector well I suppose we could give it time, given it was put off hold only 21 minutes ago, though the question is begging me to delete it.

7:11 PM
@ProfessorVector I wouldn't say that what your claiming is necessarily true. Not at all. People have to many preconceived notions about what "should be the case", always. That's rather puritanical, and doesn't match how SE has been designed.
How can you say no to a poor question begging for its deletion? They have their rights too, no?

This question and this question are very similar. Anyone wanna judge if they should be dupes?

Any way, @ProfessorVector, my dv was cast long before @SimplyBeautifulArt's post. The sight is designed so that upon receiving a net -3 score, it is valid to delete it. If I think a question is poor (no effort, no context, no research), as in this case, I dv and likely vote to close. If two others feel likewise, or enough users downvote so that there is a net -3 score, according to the SE designed network, at play on every site in SE, the time is ripe for deletion, if three users agree.
@SimplyBeautifulArt :D

@amWhy Of course, you have a right to downvote a poor question (and it is, I don't have to be a specialist in logic for that), it's also asked quite often, lots of duplicates.

Hm.... this question has two upvotes (and 2 downvotes).
Idk if we should do anything about it, but this 2010 question is very low-quality.
@amWhy it seems the HNQ is a tad slow to catch up and wrong room

7:38 PM
@SimplyBeautifulArt oops!
I'm sorry if this is a repeat post from me today, but this PSQ one-liner is up for deletion
And this one-liner PSQ needs to be closed, to start...
@SimplyBeautifulArt the first of the two questions immediately above, is the question you alerted us to, which at the time was in need of delete votes. It's now open for deletion.
@XanderHenderson o/

8:18 PM
@SimplyBeautifulArt Put on hold now, one delete vote missing. (OP accepted an answer, so I doubt that he will improve the question any time.)

8:50 PM
The same user who asked two of the posts I last link above, as posted yet another one-liner logic question: math.stackexchange.com/questions/2685016/…

2 hours later…
10:50 PM
@amWhy @Did, @SimplyBeautifulArt, @ZacharySelk, @ProfessorVector, @user21820, @all this question is now open for deletion

Hello! Maybe we'll see @SimplyBeautifulArt again tonight! How's it going? Did you deliver your presentation, or is that coming up soon?

That was Wednesday
I got to show off all my tattoos while presenting
for example, at one point we needed to know when $3^s = 2$, which obviously occurs when $\mathrm{e}^{s\log(3)} = \mathrm{e}^{\log(2)}$
but wait... let me check my notes

@XanderHenderson Cool! I thought it was scheduled for Wednesday. How'd it go? Though, if you got to show off your tattoos, it must have went well!

the exponential is periodic, so we also have $\mathrm{e}^{\log(2) + i2\pi k}$ for an integer $k$
wha bam

Excellent!

11:50 PM
yeah, it was a fun talk; it was the week before finals, so attendance was a little low
but it went well
It is always a good day when I get to talk about my work
