@amWhy @user21820 @the-other-regulars I don't think that this edit is entirely appropriate, though I don't want to roll it back unilaterally (and am not wedded to the idea that it is an inappropriate edit). Does anyone else want to weigh in?
@amWhy I was just looking for one other person to agree with me before I did it myself. :P
Yeah, that question should probably be closed. There are several good answers to the question here (I am obviously biased, but I actually rather like both PM 2Ring's and jadhachem's answers quite a lot).
And that question is a duplicate of this one (which doesn't have any great answers, but seems to be the ur-question (maybe?)).
@XanderHenderson I had, prior to you pointing it out as a duplicate, already voted to close as off topic. (Click on the "close" option to see 1 downvote cast as off topic (mine), and your downvote cast as "duplicate". But I entirely agree it needs to be closed, and I would have voted to close as a duplicate if I hadn't already voted to close as off-topic.
@XanderHenderson: I just pinned your last comment to the side bar.
The user self-deleted this Question an hour after getting my Answer. The user had previously spent many hours and Comments imploring that someone provide a solution, and I'd helped them through the edits necessary to get the Question (originally titled "Linear algebra question (solution to the equations) ") reopened. So I'm suggesting the Community undelete their post.
@MarkMcClure Perhaps, and that was my first impulse, but I thought it worth letting CRUDE take a look as the Community might be able to deal with a first time "offense" at least as well as a Mod. I've already cast my vote to undelete.
@XanderHenderson There's a quote from Charles Babbage: "I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question." (after he was asked twice if his analytical engine would produce right answers even if fed with wrong figures).
@amWhy @XanderHenderson The reputation that you see in the left column of chat takes more than just your Math.SE reputation into account. I think it's all rep across all your member sites.
Ahh, Thanks, @Mark I had clicked on @Xander's chat profile, and you're right, it records rep across all sites. Sorry for the false alarm @Xander. I've known you're headed in that 10K direction on MSE.
