@DavidReed Problem-Statement Question

Ah ok.
I take it this would be the room to enter if I had issues with a post?

Yup
@amWhy already did

Ok good to know.

12:28 AM
If I wanted to post a discussion-based question on the defendability of allowing uncountable languages in FOL would that be better for metamath or math?

1:02 AM
Woo a dupe hammer feels good.
@DavidReed Not my area of knowledge, and discussion-based questions usually belong to chat.

Gotcha. Well I already posted it. I don't see any close votes yet. I figured this would be a good place to ask.
@SimplyBeautifulArt Out of curiousity, what is your area of knowledge?

@DavidReed I mostly do analysis related topics and googology, the study of unreasonably large numbers (and funny acronyms for said numbers)

1:19 AM
Just looked it up;had never heard of that field. Have come across the Knuth arrow before though. Ironically, I posted a response regarding the historical motivation for FOL to be real analysis, and that nobody really cared about it anymore. It's consistent with you considering it to be "out of your area".
Basically my question was is it safe to assume that it is possible to surjectively assign a unique symbol/graphic to each real number.

Since you asked about PSQ, I will add link to this post as a kind of "reference": Common acronyms used on main and meta.

Hi Martin. Thank you.

BTW this rooms is mentioned in the recent question on meta: What is happening with the trustworthiness and reliability of answers on MSE?
@DavidReed I am not sure to which extent this is what you're looking for but maybe it's at least related: Definable real number at Wikipedia, and also the question on the main site: Are there real numbers that cannot be uniquely expressed with a finite number of symbols? (and other posts linked there).

Thank you Martin. Yes I noticed that question earlier today, which ultimately brought me in here.Scrolling up I can see he's brought it up here as well. It's a legimitate issue.

user21820 might tell you whether this would be on-topic in the logic chatroom.
But since you have asked on main, you will probably get some response tehre. I spupose you meant this question (when you said "I already posted"): On the permissability of uncountable languages in constructions of FOL

1:36 AM
Yes
sry was just reading the link you sent me.

1:48 AM
@Martin Sleziak I noticed you edited it
Did it strike you as a bad or poorly placed post?

@DavidReed I have just corrected a typo (missing space).
Perhaps this one is indeed too minor, but I think that editing to correct obvious typos is a reasonable thing to do.

Oh no worries.
Is there a more appropriate place to post it?

Personally I go even for minor edits if the post is not too old. (In my opinion changing the sentence "Personally i go even for minor edits ." to "Personally I go even for minor edits." in a - hypothetical - post is still worth doing - stuff like minor languages slips or misplaced punctuation make post slightly more difficult to read.)

2:07 AM
Ah I see. It's caused quite the heated discussion actually. Been upvoted as well.

2:23 AM
I had an edit suggestion rejected the other day...edit was simply taking the string x^3ln(x-3) and putting $$ around it. Not sure why someone felt it was better off in textmode

@SimplyBeautifulArt Or, as I prefer to call it, Please-Solve-Question.
@SimplyBeautifulArt amWhy linked the said user, and I'm just helping to highlight the obviously problematic ones, rather than everyone having to sieve through all the user's posts one by one
Anyway why you say "he" instead of "you"?
@amWhy @SimplyBeautifulArt @ZacharySelk: Open for deletion. Sounds like homework due soon.
@MartinSleziak @DavidReed: Yes feel free to come to the Logic chat-room to ask your kind of question!

@SimplyBeautifulArt Hey I realized that your clipart was the one making my browser complain about mixed content (HTTP in a HTTPS page).

@user21820 @amWhy @AsafKaragila: Here is another cranky post.
@GabrielRomon All gone; unstarring.

I think the one above regarding someone having proved that the natural numbers are not countable takes the cake. I still can't stop laughing.
Thank you for your invitation 820.

@user21820 Oops. You can move it if you want.

@SimplyBeautifulArt Nah it's okay; I'll wait for it to move itself off the recent transcript.

I got tired of explaining why this answer is wrong.

@SimplyBeautifulArt Yikes!, Though given the user you were trying to explain the wrongness of their answer, I'm not surprised. Two downvotes, and certainly opended for deletion.

Well, the answer was finally fixed...
@user21820 you might be inclined to explain why L'Hospital's rule cannot be applied.
