Imagine taking someone from the train station and rolling up in that thing šŸ˜

heh yeah problem is its too much like a car - drivers will expect it to behave like a car.
IE, do the speed limit and accelerate fast.

I suppose you can easily go 50 km/h on the flat in that bullet!

7:25 AM
I dunno - it may be contentious, but in my experience bents are not significantly faster. At least my two unfaired ones.
You're doing roughly the same speed with leg effort only, no arms or upper body involved.
So I can chat away while riding the bent at a speed where I'd be out of breath on a road bike.
My commute is about the same length, but I'm a lot less sweaty on the bend. Its mostly the back where I rest on the seat and the rest is okay. We all know what a sweaty upright bike ride is like.

Well but you have double the power and less drag compared to an upright single...

Oh on that thing - yeah definitely faster.

8:01 AM
Velomobiles are supposed to be much faster on flat terrain
though I guess accelerating a >20kg vehicle would take some time and effort
I think in a velomobile Iā€™d like an electric assist, even if itā€™s just up to 25km/h

8:15 AM
@Michael My prof at uni had one like that and used it for commuting. He also did research on them: h-brs.de/en/tree/efficient-mobility

yeah - the recumbent is slower to accelerate, and takes longer to get to top speed. A short/medium sprint would always be taken by the road bike.
Traffic lights suck on a bent :)

@Criggie fairings make all the difference.
As a tandem you will cruise effortlessly at 50 km/h, at least as long as it's flat.
The wheels need to be covered though. Either discs and tighter wheel wells, or better fairings that cover the whole thing.

heh maybe. I found when I had an upright tandem that noone wanted to ride it
Not sure what that says about me :))
gnight !

@Criggie: You shouldnā€™t spend so much time with us Europeans, it messes with your sleep cycle :D

@Criggie Nobody wants to ride my Tandem with me either... For whatever reason people think tandems are super dorky and boring

An extra question accompanying the one on the QA site (https://bicycles.stackexchange.com/q/85331/48599).

Many bike components at Decathlon (cassettes, for sure) are made by Microshift, but it's not clear that that extends to pedals.

Who makes Rockrider (regular) (https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/spd-compatible-clipless-mountain-bike-pedals/_/R-p-145411?mc=8486972)
and Btwin (xc race) (https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/spd-compatible-clipless-mountain-bike-pedals-xc-race/_/R-p-307497?mc=8553330)
pedals? Microshift (https://www.microshift.com) doesn't show pedals in their line-up.

@Michael Heh - its my on-call week at work, that messes me up one week in 4

That question about the $850 service charge is the second sickening thing Iā€™ve seen this week.
@NathanKnutson Do bike shops usually charge for actual labor time elapsed? I thought every task has a predefined price

Jeez. I'd be tempted to just never pick up the bike and "ghost" the store

yah it seems excessive. Labour is frequently the biggest single cost, but the thign about "only BB available was ceramic for $250 US" sounds like bullshit.
Unrelated - the local AA now officially support ebikes.
> More AA Members are choosing electric bikes for their daily commute, so we've extended AA Roadservice to include electric bikes. If you're an AA Member and you break down on an eBike, you can call us on 0800 500 222 (or *222 on your mobile) for assistance, as you usually would.
