Err, jump right, not fall right :-)

Didn''t help that I was wearing a Jason costume at the time... facemask and big plastic overcape and carrying a plastic machete

1:36 AM
At least you were wearing a "helmet" :-)

2:04 AM
Oh yes - race rules required a cycling helmet - that was under the overcape's hood.

@Criggie
@Criggie Sorry about the previous post. I've got a pair of Oakleys with prescription lenses. As much as I don't like shilling for a big brand, they are the best glasses of any sort I've had in ~40 years of glasses-wearing. I'm pretty careful with them. Mine are about 4 years old and in great shape.

People can get really expensive sunglasses and baby them. I'm really hard on my sunglasses as I drop them in dirt, clean them with my shirt, leave them on my car dashboard in the summer, and lose them. So I get cheap (<US$50) sunglasses and replace them yearly.
p.s. I'm never going to get as many positive votes as I did on the nut-cushion question and thus will have to bear that infamy forever.... :-(

I find that industrial eye protection is good and inexpensive. There are shapes that are very similar to cycling glasses, also with vents to avoid fogging. Examples by Uvex or Bolé may be found for a tenner.
I consider impact resistance the most important aspect of cycling glasses that might be insufficient in since cheap ones.

@RoboKaren Before sloping top tubes we honestly used those top tube foam things to protect against knee strikes. Mountian biking in the 90's was a lot more about climbing (shuttling hadn't been "invented" yet) so we often did a lot of technical step ups etc. Knee strikes were quite common.
Was volunteering yesterday for a local race (cross fondo), ended up cleaning the course on my "Adventure" touring bike. Somehow cleaned all the single track (including drops and step ups) when running 25 lbs on the front.
Wish I had a better picture (I used to be good at that). I was amazed what I could ride the mtb bike park on my touring rig. Making me think of some deeper camping adventures than I originally planned. I think I pulled out somewhere in excess of 300 flags (blue).

If the way is mostly like that it must be fantastic.
I like about my new bike that it is light and easy to shoulder. I enjoy the freedom of simply stepping over obstacles or going up stairs. Mountain bikes are more awkward to carry. Even a light old fashioned hard tail I I've had wasn't as convenient on the shoulder.
Btw, that's an interesting answer on hill Vs turbo @Rider_X.

Q: Fastest way to get faster up hill

John HuntThere's a 2.4km, fairly gentle hill near me which I want to get quite a bit faster on. The traditional answer to my question is likely to be 'Go up the hill more often', but I also have a turbo trainer. I was wondering if it's more useful to do intense intervals on the turbo or just keep going u...

@gschenk I didn't photograph any of the single track (just trying to survive!) I should go back and film riding rock faces on a fully loaded touring bike. The course was a mix of road, single and double track riding. The picture is of some of the double track on private land that we got permission to use in the course.
@gschenk I think the stack needs more interesting answers rather than repeating old wives' tales.

@RoboKaren starred as interesting.

Finally, some bad reviews about the Bontrager Mustang rims :-) I was worried that they are too narrow (17mm) and prone to becoming untrue.

10:42 PM
@Criggie - was the star for the nut cushion or the sunglasses? :-)
