A: Does anyone have a specific example of using the Flyweight Pattern?

Ramhttp://ramj2ee.blogspot.in/2013/11/flyweight-design-pattern-implementation.html Flyweight pattern is used when there is a need to create a large number of objects of almost similar nature. The large number of objects consume a large amount of memory and the Flyweight design pattern provides a so...

@gnat I scrolled through the 1st posts history. You are the only one who reviewed that particular question. And I think I can guess what action you took... The +2 / -3 split on the non-answer is interesting. My conspiracy theory is that there may be a voting ring, but searching didn't turn up any other obvious references to that site.

@GlenH7 voting ring, maybe. Though this hypothesis looks shaky: timeline for today rather shows there were pair of careless upvoters (hunting for voting badges, maybe)

@gnat I'm sticking with my conspiracy theories. Far more entertaining of a prospect than the simpler answers.

I think I'd rather lobby for more close votes. But I'm pretty sure that even at it's worst, the depth of the Prog close review queue doesn't bother anyone in SE proper.

2:51 PM
what do you guys think of the code review site?

@GlenH7 opening review in anonymous mode show 69 questions in the queue, no big deal compared to SO

user41796
@Malachi how do you mean? It's another SE site that serves its purpose.

user41796
@gnat I have been doing my part to feed some into the queue….

@GlenH7 like do you think that that it is serving it's purpose well? would you review code there? would you post code there?

@Malachi great site to dump questions having working code and asking for review. Also, you guys vote too little there
looking at CR stats at Area 51 made me wonder, why they are still beta? However, upon checking respective discussion at their meta and their reputation stats, it seems to make sense. Zero 20Kers and only 3 10Kers, oh my. CR users indeed need to vote moregnat Aug 1 at 6:14

2:54 PM
@gnat we are working on that.

user41796
@Malachi I personally don't, but that's because I lack the time and I don't have any code that can be publicly reviewed. I know of other regulars in this chat room that frequent code review and they're generally happy with it.

Q: Call of Duty - We're on a mission

retailcoderThis is a direct reply to Grace Note's recent CR review, more precisely the following part: (emphasis mine) Unanswered Tying in to all of the above is one of the most pressing concerns about the site I had in my own review, which is the gigantic pool of unanswered questions. There are, ...

3
there are several of use that are trying to make it a more inviting place to have code reviewed, and trying to get more votes out there as well.

user41796
@Malachi - to be a little more specific. I'm pretty myopic about Programmers. If you look at my profile, I'm fairly high rep on P.SE but fairly low rep on all of the other sites, including SO. It's primarily a matter of time for me. I put whatever extra time I have into keeping programmers neat and tidy.

@GlenH7 that is what happened with me and code review. I found that I was learning more from Code Review than I was from SO, and now I am pretty much biased to CR

user41796
Some of my work related code reviews can take hours. Even though it would be quicker on CR, I have the impression that each answer of mine would need to be somewhat involved.

user41796
2:59 PM
@Malachi Insert "Programmers" instead of CR and that would be my story as well. The churn on SO is too much for my tastes

I know what you mean, we have meta posts about length of questions, length of answers, stuff like that

user41796
@gnat - do you have close votes handy?

For the love of … Please don't bring the tabs vs. spaces holy war up as a question. — GlenH7 26 secs ago

user41796
@Malachi Of the Progs regulars that I know of participating in codereview (like JimmyHoffa) they have been happy enough with the site and they feel that it is making improvements for the better. So those are the types of things you would be hoping for / looking to make happen. You're on the right track.

@Malachi it most likely was a mistake to decline this request for site specific close reason (not that it should be accepted as is, but you'll likely in a serious need of some distilled version of it)

Q: Should we have a "Too long" close reason?

retailcoderSeveral questions (including some of mine) have lots of code. Some of those have ridiculous amount of code and should probably be broken into two, three, sometimes even four questions. When it's a recent post, we can comment and ask the OP to edit and often they'll happily comply. But when it's...

@GlenH7 had 3... now have 2

@gnat thanks. The follow-up comments leave my head shaking even more. I ought to suggest he ask in chat.

@GlenH7 I think this question is perfectly chat-answerable

user41796
@gnat It is. I just loathe rehashing unresolvable holy wars. So unproductive.

@GlenH7 I only loathe this at main site. :) At chat, why not - fits well in between youtube links...

user41796
@gnat true. If I can suffer through discourse regarding monads and endofunctors then tabs vs. spaces should be okay too.

@GlenH7 and combatants could even use chat stars to vote up their favorite side of the fence. It is only disturbing when they use main site for polling games like that...

user41796

user41796
That brings up an interesting thought though. Room owners can clear the stars on a comment along with pinning / unpinning comments. It would be a neat trick to be able to clear up votes on comments on main. Kinda useless as the comment probably should be deleted. But could still be fun.

Q: Can a "Not your code" default off-topic option be added to the close dialog?

rolflA number of questions have come up recently where the code is not the asker's own code, prompting a 'close' response. It would be convenient if there was an 'off-topic' close option that included: off-topic because the code you want reviewed is not your code. See the help (item 2) for on-topi...

@André good source of comment flags...

@Malachi I don't buy this explanation,
There can only be three custom close reasons at this time and we are using all of them already, so this can't currently be done. Feel free to suggest replacing one of the other reasons with this one, but I don't think it's common enough to warrant deactivating one of the others. — codesparkle Nov 21 at 22:34
with 10K questions there CR.SE looks mature enough to appeal for 5 reasons, you just better collect and analyse the data (you've got plenty!) to back up request for 5 reasons

The people at Sec.SE don't want my comment flagger :(

user41796
@Undo don't take it too personally. It is a lot of effort for those flagging and for the mods to review the flags.

Maybe I presented it wrong.
@Glen I know :)

@Undo they probably believe it's insecure. Either this, or ChrisF influenced them against after your yesterday treats :)

My 2 cents is that Undo idea of comment flag queue is great :P

Oh, I forgot they're Paranoid.SE :)

user41796
And it can be a tough sell. Programmers has worked to clean out a lot of that sort of crap, and I think the benefits are there. But the absence of something is hard to see unless you know to look for it.

@André absolutely. I'd dump my 100 flags there, instead of splitting these into smaller chunks

@gnat I linked it in our chat, we have a moderator there that is active and another member that has a skill for writing meta posts

A: Make comment flagging work more like chat flagging, available to users with 10k reputation

Shog9Quick critique in response to Undo's plaintive bounty... First, this isn't a bad idea... For some types of flags. The "chat" method works really well when it comes to handling bad stuff that's easily recognizable - in fact, we already use a broadly similar technique to handle VLQ flags! But whe...

not that I dislike trolling myself...
[to save commenters time] - Oh but... doing so would force reviewers to particular close reason, that's bad. - Yup that's bad... the only thing worse is forcing them to review unsorted pile of stuff; this eventually killed old review system and I bet 97.4+K items that this is killing current system, too — gnat 7 hours ago

Q: Does Java recommend subclassing more than C#/.Net?

MetaFightI've recently started looking at Android development. This has brought me back into the work of Java software development. A: Does Java recommend subclassing more than C#/.Net?

Pantelis NatsiavasThere is absolutely no difference in the way inheritance is handled between Java and C#. I would kindly suggest reading this article. Hope I...

An opinion poll, sometimes simply referred to as a poll, is a survey of public opinion from a particular sample. Opinion polls are usually designed to represent the opinions of a population by conducting a series of questions and then extrapolating generalities in ratio or within confidence intervals. History The first known example of an opinion poll was a local straw poll conducted by The Harrisburg Pennsylvanian in 1824, showing Andrew Jackson leading John Quincy Adams by 335 votes to 169 in the contest for the United States Presidency. Since Jackson won the popular vote in that state ...
