The contest is officially over! Thanks to everyone who made it possible!!!!
@YannisRizos URGENT: I need you to edit my contest post with the last two flairs, as well as on the Meta answer. I'm having a stupid moment and forget how to find them...
@YannisRizos Nevermind I got it. Sorry.

12:54 AM
@Dynamic Heh, why was that urgent? Even if you didn't find the flair, it's not the end of the world ;P

Q: What did you think of the contest?

Yannis RizosOur contest ended a few hours ago, the winners should be getting their prizes soon(ish). Hopefully you've all enjoyed the contest as much as I did, and we can organize similar events again in the future. What did you think? Did you like it? What could we have done better, and what should we be m...

@YannisRizos Better than a meeting :-)
@YannisRizos Do I need to do anything before launch of the blog? Or can I just do it?

@Dynamic Wasn't June 7 our launch date? I have no idea what you've been doing, I was planning to catch up with the transcript tomorrow.

@YannisRizos I've been pinging you... we kept saying the launch date would be June 7, the day after the contest ends. But that was wrong, it was June 4, the day after the contest ends.

@Dynamic I know you've been pinging me, I've been ignoring you ;) Give me a couple of minutes to make a fresh cup of coffee and let's move to the blog room.

@YannisRizos OK
@gnat In reply to a lot of your edits, are we supposed to be deleting things such as "Thanks!" in posts, or is that just something you are doing?

@Dynamic Yes, removing "thanks" is a good thing. Just don't bump an old post just to remove "thanks"

Q: Are micro edits on new posts insignificant?

Yannis RizosThe issue of editing en masse has been discussed a few times on meta, most recently on @MarkTrapp's answer on the question on Amazon Links and I think it's clear that no one likes a messy homepage. I've tried to limit myself to 3-4 substantial edits per day on older posts. But how about new ques...

Q: Should 'Hi', 'thanks,' taglines, and salutations be removed from posts?

GEOCHETI edit a lot of posts every day. I often run across posts with 'Hi' and 'Thanks' on the top and the bottom of the post respectively. I also run across things like: --User Should these items be removed during the editing of the post by an editor?

@Dynamic as Yannis said (including the reference to MSO post about 'Hi', 'thanks,' etc). I typically hesitate to have thanks removal as the only content of the edit; even as primary purpose of it. Just when I have something else to deal with, I also try to wipe out "personal stuff" as much as I can. Do you have any particular edit in mind?

12:18 PM
@Dynamic are you sure that it's me you wanted to ask about thanks removal? I just recalled VJovic have been doing a lot of revisions like that: programmers.stackexchange.com/users/20065/…

@ahorsewithnoname Re merging your accounts: Because you have a lot of rep on another site, I can't merge the accounts, probably a security precaution. I've already send word to the devs to handle the merge, as an extra measure could you please edit both accounts' "about me" boxes to point to the other account, so we are absolutely certain it's you? Thanks!

Sam Brand on June 04, 2012

Hello. Sam Brand here. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m part of the CHAOS at Stack Exchange. I handle certain “special projects” across the network, oversee syndication, and occasionally poke my head into our communities to make sure our platform works to deliver killer content to the outside world. A couple weeks ago, I embarked upon one of these experiments.

Each day of the week (May 7 – May 11) I dropped into Google Trends: Hot Searches to find a buzzy keyword about which I could ask a question at one of our sites. I did this mostly out of curiosity; I’d never used the vast majo …

Hard to believe it’s been only six months since the last moderator election on Stack Overflow…

Remember A Theory of Moderation? It talks about how moderators are the “human exception handlers” on Stack Overflow, elected to deal with those rare situations the normal community moderation can’t handle. It also notes:

The most common moderator task is to follow up on flagged posts. Every post contains a small flag link, which anyone with 15 reputation can use.

Over 200K users with at least 15 reputation have accessed Stack Overflow in the past three months. That’s a lot of folks able to raise a red flag – and a lot of them do. …
