@quid or another mod: Please consider this user as potentially another reincarnation of th "answerer-in-comments-to-low-quality-posts." I've flagged two such comments. I made one short, polite, comment to them.

This user (math.stackexchange.com/users/735604/wuyudi) has been proposing edits to questions that replace MathJax with non-MathJax symbols (e.g., replacing \omega with ω, \int with ∫, and so on). I have reviewed and either edited or rejected several of their proposed edits. Should a moderator step in and perhaps chat with them regarding this issue?

@an4s I've noticed the same thing! Thanks for posting here. I have reviewed and rejected dozens of their proposed edits, as well! Sometimes, I've seen them correct cos x with \cos x, but at the same time, they revert to non-mathjax symbols (no doubt copied and pasted.)

That is exactly what I have seen. Perhaps some of the symbols don't render correctly on their side and they feel the need to replace them with ASCII characters? I am not entirely sure.

Moderators, about this last issue posted by @an4s, which I've witnessed as well, isn't it about time developers add a means of flagging inappropriate edits, directly from the review queue?

@an4s I'm not sure either, but they seem to know enough mathjax to fix trig functions, but not enough to recognize, e.g., that \infty is mathjax for the infty symbol they revert to.

Too bad we haven't had a moderator in these parts for the past five days.

Since I've been back, (three weeks now), I've only seen activity from the three mods I've listed. Game up/step up, or it's time for some resignations and a re-election.

I mean, se got rid of a mod for far less crimes than abandonment/laziness/failure-to-step-up-as-a-mod. So it shouldn't be a stretch to get rid of mods not stepping up on any site.

When I ask for mods here to "get their game on", and "step up to the plate", I am not referring to @quid, @AloizioMacedo, nor @AlexanderGruber. Three mods on this site (of this size) cannot a moderator team comprise. Where are the rest of you??

Or perhaps this chatroom has become essentially useless. I'd like to know if that's the case.

I state the above, and ask the question, because within the past year, it seems to have become useless, or responses from mods have become "too latent" to make this room of any use. In any case, I'm acclimating to the "new and dis-improved (new and abandoned/harmed)" chatroom and site that is now math.se.

@amWhy That's a good idea. I don't expect action on this quickly, cause SE is doing a lot of restructuring atm, but I'll add this to my list of easy QoL improvements that I'll be passing to CMs once they've got their feedback loop more operational.

As for mod activity, I can say that Asaf and Daniel do quite a bit behind the scenes, their work just isn't very visible to the public. Your point is taken, though.

@amWhy I certainly understand. When we do get a new round of mods, I hope that they will be more on the "front of the house" side of things. That seems to be our weakest point in the team currently.

And besides, @AlexanderGruber, that leaves four mods who rarely surface. As I indicated above, since SE staff found it so easy to rid the network of Monica, why can't it rid sites of "deadbeat" mods? It seems the former was terribly controversial, and the latter, not at all.

@AlexanderGruber I get that the SE network has likely mandated that NO MODS ABSOLUTELY can comment on its fiasco in dismissing Monica, certainly it can permit discussion of getting rid of "deadbeat" mods?

@amWhy That's mostly because their inactivity isn't itself harmful to the site, in that it doesn't prevent us from electing new people (since the number of slots is unlimited). We have an option to declare ourselves as being temporarily inactive (both formally an informally) if we need to go to a conference or something, but after extended periods of absence with no replies, mods can be removed via an internal vote to do so.

@AlexanderGruber Well I suggest that such an internal vote to do so occur, but that would require a unanimous vote from the three (front active) and 2 (behind the scene you claim). I'm assuming that at least 5 of the 9 mods must vote on such a move? Do users (who are not mods) have any clout in terms of influence in suggesting an election of more active mods?

Shog in particular I think was a mistake. He was the only one who knew how to get a lot of internal data and was the person who helped this mod team most. The CM team is crippled until they replace him and I don't know if it's even possible for anyone to approach his domain knowledge of SE's internal systems....... but I digress

@AlexanderGruber Actually Jon Ericson decided to resign. But another CM was apparently fired (Robert Cartaino).

@amWhy We don't have any choke order from them, by the way, apart from not sharing internal discussions.

@AlexanderGruber I suspect Shog9 (Jason) was valuable to many, and perhaps many mods too. And likely for many years. But my experience, directly at his hands, was catastrophic more recently. I think over time he overstepped bounds, and became a bit too big for his britches, and flaunting it, as well. Perhaps he was a "man who got things done"... but in the end, the way he did things...

@geocalc33 upvotes are worth 10 and downvotes are worth 2 on questions. So if you got 1 upvote and then 3 downvotes, that would be -2 score in total, and you'd have gained an aggregate 10-3*(-2)=4 reps. Makes sense.

@quid The flags I raised were on comments I wonder if are from the repeat offender(s) who answer(s) PSQ's in comments. Can't say for sure, but shows a similar pattern. Might just be someone to keep an eye on. Thanks
