It's quite sad to see to see Jyrki Lahtonen's quitting as the moderator: Resigning from moderator duties.

I am pretty sure that Jyrki will receive many similar messages, but still I want to say that I hope he does not plan to quite the site entirely. After all, who would stay here to answer our questions about finite fileds...?

I haven't seen quid online for a few days (Last seen Jun 9) - but I hope this is just temporary. (I suppose quid would mention it somewhere it they had plans to leave the site for a longer period.)

Thanks for the response. Good to know that they are ok. (Although after such a short time it would be soon to get worried.)

Since you say quid is away - perhaps this can be done by another mod, perhaps this can wait for quid: Renaming the “gersgorin-sets” tag.

This is perhaps interesting from grammar point of view - if somebody has a username with lowercase letter (such as quid, robjohn, mixedmath/davidlowryduda, egreg, etc.) what do you do at the beginning of sentence?

Wow that was fast. I see that already is a synonym (gersgorin-sets) to (gershgorin-sets) and also tag-info is displayed correctly.

Will you also post an answer on meta to say that this has been dealt with?

@MartinSleziak Renaming is done by creating a synonym and merging. I'm not sure what happens if the synonym is removed, so I kept it.

I do not get the joke with Гершгорин and Hartshorne, but I'll try to look a bit in dictionaries.

@MartinSleziak Hirschhorn = hart's horn, in older spelling Hartshorne.

I see. So I would probably look in dictionaries in vain. I thought that I should look for Russian translation of "hart" and of "horn".

Yes, you'd have to start from the Yiddish/German version. Гершгорин is the Cyrillic transcription of Hirschhorn.

I should have used an indefinite article. Transcriptions/transliterations between Cyrillic and Latin alphabets are far from unique (consider the uncountably many variants of Chebyshev).

@MartinSleziak Agreed! I feel the same way. I am encouraged, though, by his stated intention to still visit the site (but likely spending less time he has as a mod).
