These "escape characters" go back to the days when programmers used vt100 CRT terminals. Linux terminals, DOS command prompts and putty ssh sessions - among many other apps - still support them. That's what you're seeing. Since "ANSI colors" was designed specifically to support them, I was hoping it might help. Perhaps you can configure your VSCode Git client to not use escape codes. Perhaps you can configure whatever terminal the VSCode Git client uses to handle them (e.g. put the terminal into "vt100 mode", or equivalent) Personally, I would just ignore them :) — paulsm4 50 secs ago

Who "in the industry" considers multi-level breaks bad practice? I wholeheartedly disagree. Any programmer worth his or her salt will know what a break with a label does (or a break with a number in some programming languages). What if you have multiple nested loops? Do you do this for four levels? This is just ugly and wasteful. If I found this code in something a junior programmer wrote, I would flag it. I think this is more of a "our facebook-ads don't working correctly" question than one about programming. I guess facebook would have a forum/page/support where the visitors are more experienced with that kind of problems? Don't know. That doesn't necessarily mean that you're wrong here on SO with this question, but imo. the title and the tags you currently use attract the wrong kind of people; programmers (like me), who know about JS, React and Firebase but not necessarily about what it takes to label pages/whatever for Facebook. — Thomas 18 secs ago
