It's not clear what you're asking, because much of what you wrote doesn't make sense. Sockets require a listening endpoint, often called the "server", and a connecting endpoint, often called the "client". Any endpoint can act as either server, client, or both, according to its need. Multiple connections can be made at either endpoint. You should start with the documentation, as well as tangentsoft.net/wskfaq. @byxor Just for fun. I find it interesting to try to determine the simplest subset of a language instruction set that allows for solving any problem. As most programmers seem to think programming is basically combining loops, variable mutations, and testing conditions, I wonder if we can get rid of loops and variable mutations. Indeed, but we need to pick the right tools. There are a lot of good local server systems, maybe you should check softwarerecs.stackexchange.com . Ex. I've installed Bitnami WAPP-stack (runs PHP and PostgreSQL in Apache) for several years ago (for Windows), without much knowing about servers at that time. @Giannis, yes and no, and it brings up another host of problems on its own. First the "%s" conversion specifier will stop reading when it encounters the first whitespace. Second, unless you provide the field-width modifier, it provides no check on the number of characters read (similar to the issue with gets). So if your buffer is 256-chars, you must provide a maximum field-width of "%255s" to limit what scanf will read to what fits in your buffer. Lastly, scanf is full of pitfalls for new programmers due to what remains in stdin after a matching-failure. — David C. Rankin 54 secs ago
