Also Software Engineering may be more appropriate. StackOverflow is more for when you have actual code that's giving you trouble, and you can't find out how to fix it. — Aaron 11 secs ago

Questions like "is there a more efficient way" or "are there existing designs" are IMHO too broad. It's important that when one writes an answer to a question, one can have confidence that the answer that is written is the answer to the question. Open-ended design questions may be more suitable on softwareengineering.stackexchange.com. — Peter Duniho 1 min ago

@fuz - that is so sad, on all the forums, they say begin with this book, to learn assembly language, i guess they were real programmers using linux systems, not just some "wannabe" coders like me sitting on a useless fancy hyped up mac .. any ways i guess i will wait , till i can afford a system for linux ... thanks all — multiverse 39 secs ago

Please, post text as text, not as photographs of text. This is a website for programmers, not photographers. We want to copy&paste&run your code, copy&paste your inputs, read your outputs, and copy&paste&google your error messages, not critique your use of color and perspective. The second variant (with the initialization at definition site) is less risky. Even if the definition and assignment are right next to each other now, future programmers on the code might add other statements in between, and then the risk of using the variable uninitialized increases. So I recommend the second variant. But it's still a matter or personal preference and subjective. — Some programmer dude just now
