:)
@Seth 66 upvotes :D :D <3

7:16 PM
Its always nice to see my first thoughts in a comment already there "why in the world would you want to..." ;)

>:)

Nice to see you back being so active - you always have such good anwers at hand :)

if he thinks: better speed I am going to force him to recompile his kernel with swapd
that topic might be better off closed :P
HEY I never was away from AU :( Just that I never find a good question anymore

I know - I always saw bits of you, at least from comments :)

well I currently am defending my 1st row spot against Luis :=D
and he is getting close >:)

7:22 PM
Luis will ask a question, and bam - you're down again ;P

:D
@seth got me 2 more upvotes :D

I bet if we only counted upvotes from questions he would be unrechable.

yeah Luis asks alot... moderators should not ask but research >:)

our first-rowers

let's ban izx :+)

7:26 PM
Nooo - we can't he seemed to have himself auto-banned recently... hope not for long.

aha.weird his page says he was last seen in 2012 oct. but he got some rep this year

He got tons of good stuff posted here.

can you get 25k+ rep with bad answers? >:D

You probably can but you need tons of good answers for 40k+
We'll all laugh about these low rep figures in 2 years time.

sigh
that emre has alot to learn :+)
that other answer is wrong :X

7:35 PM
I only upvoted one answer.

so at least 3 ppl on AU do not understand file permissions >:D
that's why I love you takkat <3

It's always weird when an unregistered user says something here.
The worst is when their bad edits get approved somehow.

D:
what is even worse: answer that is just a bit off from the thruth :LD
"should I massacre this reply and make it correct or just comment?" :D

Half answers - I remember the time when every answer with some good looking CLI fu was automatically upvoted 5 times.
@Rinzwind let time disappear it in insignificance.

lol I made a few too. I type from memory and end up deleting my answer :D

7:39 PM
Me and my typos in CLI - I wonder that the code I do runs at all.

I hate it that a dupe-close needs a topic with an accepted answer :(
sometimes I see answers that are correct in a dupe but if TS never accepts it....

@Rinzwind isn't 2 upvotes suffcient?

is it? :D aha.

@Rinzwind + if its a dupe they should be flagged for merge

merge \o/ yeah - we should do that more often.

7:49 PM

my pompoms keep getting removed in chat :(

June is my next holiday :P
Going rock climbing West England

Need to meet my kid's needs - no rocks no climbing. Chasing Easter bunnies...
Meeting grand parents.. I should better go to work, I guess.

@Rinzwind :)

8:15 PM

Q: How to check if ubuntu desktop or server is installed?

cmnajsI have a shared hosting. I have access to shell. OS is Ubuntu, and I want to check if it is server version or desktop version. When I login through shell, it shows following information: Linux [server-name] 2.6.32-24-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jul 28 06:07:29 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux Ubuntu 10.0...

No, I will veto any attempt to put those back in this room. They were removed from the feed in the main room for a reason.
3

lol

@MarcoCeppi I wasn't saying it was a good idea.. that's for sure.
@MarcoCeppi They're still there.

Marco Ceppi has stopped a feed from being posted into this room

8:19 PM
You should see the Stack Apps room.. talk about O_O_O

Just for good measure.
If you're really that interested in getting updates from Twitter, might I suggest this instead

That's the feed I did..
Anyway, I just noticed them talking about it.. so I fixed it.

Yeah, Step 1: Sign up for Twitter. Step 2: "Follow" @AskUbuntu. Step 3: Check it when you want to

Sign up for Twitter?!?! :O
No worries.
I don't want to look at them anyway.

Thanks (I guess) for making it work, or whatever. Just strongly opposing anymore feeds be added to this room

8:23 PM
;)

o/ \o

Do you know if there a way to post questions from a query every once a day or so?
Doesn't seem to be.

might be able to filter using this, pipes.yahoo.com/pipes , its really complicated, but you can make some advanced feeds with it

ooh, that looks cool.
Thanks @mateo_salta.

Q: Is the off tag really needed?

qbiI suddenly came across a question which had the off tag. The tag itself has no explanation and I asked myself what the purpose of this tag is. From my perspective this tag is somehow confusing. Would it be better to rename it the something like switching-off or make an alias for shutdown? What do...

9:35 PM
@seth, did you try the remote pro-forma scripts again?

@guntbert No I haven't. I guess I should try it out again.
Not on my Ubuntu machine right now though.
Does it work for you?

I asked before trying :-)
But if you didn't then I will try

Yeah I'll try ASAP

Doesn't look good, wait a while before trying yourself :-(
it is still "running"....
and I am exactly back to filed 1 - hummph

errg.
That's really weird.
@GeorgeEdison stackapps.com/q/3948
@guntbert You might bring the issue up here: stackapps.com/q/2116/14817

9:48 PM
@Seth will do - tomorrow :-)

OK :)

Q: What is the difference between gksudo and gksu?

SidIs there any difference between the behavior of gksu foo and gksudo foo? Can they be used interchangeably?

Bin utils and garmin... why remove those? — RolandiXor 43 secs ago
O_o
really??

Do you know what Garmin is?

Yes.

Don't they make GPS equipment?

What does it have to do with Ubuntu??
@GeorgeEdison si

10:33 PM
Yes... and some users might ask about interfacing with their devices on Ubuntu. Maybe not often, but it might happen. I don't see a need to remove it.
If someone has asked - that is.

rolls eyes
shrug
If you want it.

<--- hates to always be the odd ball.
@Seth No... that was my opinion, not the community's.

@RolandiXor Okaythen
IMO maybe , but not .
Again, just my opinion.

I am in between.
Because they make devices, it can be a very specific case - but only if someone asks.
So let it die, but don't remove it from a question if someone uses it.
(That's my view).
As for binutils... I will just leave that alone.

@RolandiXor That's exactly what we don't want tags for. Tags are for categorization, not specification (if I'm using that word right :S).
@RolandiXor I can see the point of that.

10:40 PM
@Seth in that case, we should nuke Hp, acer, etc - if they exist.
You see, these are manufacturers, not their devices. BIG difference.

@RolandiXor not exactly, because they are major computer manufactures... but I don't want to argue.

jrg
send reinforcements.

lol my final point - HP makes printers, cameras, etc. Toshiba makes hard drives... if we remove on by this rationale, we must remove all.

The big difference I see is that Garmin makes GPS*s not a *computer. BIG difference.

jrg
what type of question are we talking about?
give me examples that would be tagged with this.

SethI have started a list of tags that need some cleanup per request. Please contribute. Burniate: bits z475 vm-guest-files slf4j binutils ubuntu-secure-remix bluez fabric garmin off Not sure: menu-bar parallel-port cloning Synonyms dependency --> dependencies If you think...

@jrg none.
(IMO)
@RolandiXor That's a good point. Questions about a Toshiba hard drive shouldn't be tagged .

jrg
we have a single question tagged garmin.
not anymore.
no point in a tag with one question.
with a device that isn't that popular.

'cause you certainly have.

Hi @Luis ! Are you available?
@Seth I can see that my question was useful :P
How many MODS are in SO?
