@Benny Hey! I suppose it's because systemd services are preferred now. I found this relevant article and, from what I understand, rc.local, while deprecated, still works, but not exactly as before. Now a generator exits that converts the commands in rc.local to systemd services. So you are actually running systemd services.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

@BeastOfCaerbannog is there a quick way to send you a message to come clean my answers? ROFL

@David Hahaha! You can ping me here if you need any help!
@nobody Good morning!

8:24 AM
did you not see the ROFL at the end?

I have sometimes the feeling nowone reads terminaloutputs carefully.

you expect them to READ!!!!!

yes, of course.

Since they can not even type the title of the question into google you expect too much

8:43 AM
That's okay for me. But when my system tells me you try to remove essential packages from your system, then it is time to stop the destructive command.

9:07 AM
they know better "P

@David I did, but I thought that replying with humor could be misinterpreted, so I used a more literal reply. Usually, I don't use too much humor here, since due to the chatting's nature and the language barrier things can be very easily misinterpreted and lead to misunderstandings, which is something I don't want.
You can however make a deposit in my PayPal account whenever you want me to clean something and I will get notified!

lol I agree text can be misunderstood
any way I have never used any of the formatting stuff guess I need to learn how to.

@David This is a good starting point.

link saved in Ubuntu folder

However, there are many things that can only be learned by editing and seeing how other people edit posts.

9:21 AM
true of everything I was an educator for about 15 years

If you want to edit something and are unsure how to do it, feel free to ask about it in Raiders of the Lost Downboat.

These we should answer all questions all OS guys are driving me crazy.

2:39 PM
@David What do you mean?

Even though I enjoy trying to help on Ask Ubuntu it has been pointed out to me that I do not have appear to have the right temperament and should no longer do so. As a result I will read the questions but not interact in any way with them.
@BeastOfCaerbannog people answering clearly off topic and encouraging further off topic questions.

@David From what I recall, no one has said that you shouldn't help nor that you don't have the right temperament, but that you (and everyone really) should be extra careful about the way that you point out the mistakes of someone or request info from them. No one should be offended after all, and as I said before, it's easy to misunderstand someone or their intention when online.
@David Hmmm. Can you give an example?

I could but i dont think I will but thanks

OK then.

Thanks, @BeastOfCaerbannog, appreciated.
@Zanna hi :)
What is the best way to run a single command on each reboot? since rc.local no supported
Thanks

@Benny hi!
@Benny I think it depends on the command
depends on when it needs to be run

hm
I have user with no-password, and I am using

I think you can use cron, or you can make a systemd service, or you can put it into ~/.profile

sudo su - USERNAME COMMAND
I am using rc.local and it works fine.
But I was needed to enable the rc.local to be supported, So I wonder if I should use a different way.

hmm what's the purpose of that? You want to log in as a different user on startup?
@Benny if enabling rc.local works for your purpose, that seems fine to me...

4:12 PM
I am running a program on each system startup
yes. it's fine.

idk why rc.local is disabled by default these days

since 16.10

maybe that's a good question for the site :)
yeah, I vaguely recall

Ok, thanks a lot @Zanna :) Have a great day

for my purpose I started using sysfsutils instead
I actually saw it in a little lecture I attended... not many people seem to know about it
but it's only for specific things - kernel settings
@Benny you too :)

4:17 PM
thanks :)

6:49 PM
@Benny what I understand from what I have read is that rc.local still works, but the commands in it now get converted to systemd services. I suppose it is disabled by default in order to discourage its use and encourage the use of systemd services. Perhaps it will be completely removed in the future. As Zanna said however, since it works for your purpose, there is no point in making your life harder and not using it.

5 hours later…

@BeastOfCaerbannog, I am using crontab now, works perfectly! :D thanks!
