@BeastOfCaerbannog Hey! I guess we should have deleted those comments..
The OP of the post responded..
by editing the post..

ls -a ?(e)*.pdf
this should not return file '.pdf' ?
files are: touch {eee,ee,e,}.pdf

I have no clue.. I'm not that good with commands..

it's OK, we are all (at least me) still learning things

8:16 AM
hmm..

hmm, seems I misunderstood what does * exactly do;

I'm talking about filename expansions tomorrow in my lesson...
@αғsнιη it should, but you have to do shopt -s dotglob

8:36 AM
@Zanna hmm, I looked for such options like you said, but I was doing grep on "hid" :D
@Zanna very nice!

maybe I should add some extglob stuff o.o

emmm, I don't know

to the lesson
like your ?(e)
@αғsнιη I didn't get you...

@Zanna actually for my test-case it was completely I was wrong mixing ?(e) with *

well I wasn't planning to talk about extglob patterns at all

8:41 AM
my expectation and assumption was to see same result for both below commands
ls ?(e).pdf
vs
ls ?(e)*.pdf
while for second one, adding * after ?(e) completely ignores ?(e)
so I was totally testing wrong things
:D

it's just that * matches anything

I was wrong about * in regex vs globing
@Zanna I was looking 'shopt |grep hid' for searching that dotglob you said

you wanted to use * as a quantifier, like, match more than one e?

no
I already know *(e).pdf or +(e).pdf

@αғsнιη oh I see :)

8:46 AM
I was expecting ?(e)*.pdf result should be exactly same as what ?(e).pdf returns, but I was wrong
** my English is not good :D
@Zanna it would be good, and will not take much time to explain it

I am not sure about that haha
I mean it would probably take me a long time to explain it
but I will try

Hey @Zanna.. Any updates on this: meta.askubuntu.com/a/19322/1103140 ?

I'm cooking, back later

@Zanna :P
@Zanna maybe you can plan that for next session

9:16 AM
@αғsнιη yeah... I have loads of my original material to do still, but planning to add stuff about permissions and shopt and various other things later
@technastic_tc sorry, I just haven't started doing it yet

@Zanna that's good

@Zanna It's okay.

I have been busier than usual offline, but the anniversary stuff has taken a lot of my Ask Ubuntu time
will definitely get back to editing and tag projects like that soon

@Zanna ok.. Take your time.

:)
@αғsнιη could probably keep it going for the rest of 2020, maybe with breaks!
I hope the classroom will continue to be used
an annual anniversary event could give it a boost, but I don't want to discourage people from offering any time
or requesting

10:12 AM
Hello everyone. May I seek your assistance?
Could any of you kindly tell me how I can best connect my Scarlett Solo audio interface? I will like to keep using Ubuntu and not shift to Windows. Am a long time user.
We are a small group if Linux users that will benefit from this solution.

10:37 AM
@katyasehgal Do consider posting a question :)

@technastic_tc I deleted mine.

ok.. I'll delete mine too..
Deleted.
I guess the OP misunderstood about what we were talking..
Probably the OP misunderstood the "contribute" part in your comment
That's the reason why they added.. "am not new to contributing. My recent contribution was Opening Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop on WSL2. "
BTW, @BeastOfCaerbannog, what's your Ubuntu story?

10:55 AM
@technastic_tc i will do that now. Cheers.

@katyasehgal :)

@technastic_tc I will write about it some time.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Will be waiting to know your story :)

BTW I noticed that you added a bounty to this question.
You want to reward my answer?

@BeastOfCaerbannog yeah!
I thought you wouldn't notice XP
@BeastOfCaerbannog The link is incorrect..

11:03 AM
@technastic_tc Oh! Thank you so much! But there was no need for you to spend your points!
@technastic_tc Pffff.. I copied the next tab. This is the one.

@BeastOfCaerbannog I've been using my points like a stupid since the start. Never mind!
@BeastOfCaerbannog I wanted offer 50 points but since I already answered the question, I could only offer 100 or above..
@BeastOfCaerbannog ok..

@technastic_tc :D The only reason not to spend your points is to obtain moderation privileges to further help the community. Other than that, there really is no point (pun intended) not to.

@BeastOfCaerbannog I didn't understand the pun intended part..

@technastic_tc No point in not spending points.. Just a silly joke.

@BeastOfCaerbannog ok!
Do mention this in your answer the plugin is compatible with Gedit >=3.14 (Source: github.com/hannenz/duplicate)

11:15 AM
@technastic_tc I thought that there's no need to, since the user asks for gedit in 3.36, but, well, there's no harm in adding that too. I also deleted my comments.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Even I've deleted my comments..
BTW... I don't have a gedit folder in share..

You must create it.

oh.. So shall I use this command: mkdir -p ~/.local/share/gedit/plugins

Yes. Or create the missing folders using the file manager.

I tried the steps and it worked! Cool..

11:23 AM
@technastic_tc Haha! So you handed the bounty before testing the answer??

XP
I didn't think that the steps would fail..

Well, it was a possibility.

@BeastOfCaerbannog I told you.. I use my points in a very stupid way.. haha

Don't worry. You'll soon have them back!

Can I delete the gedit folder from share?
to remove the plugin
@BeastOfCaerbannog :)

11:31 AM
@technastic_tc Sure.

ok..
I removed the plugin.
So everything in the answer works :)

Thanks for checking! :)

btw..
in case if we download the zip file and extract
the folder name will be "duplicate-master"
So if someone is downloading the zip (like me).. might get confused.. where the "duplicate" folder is...
@BeastOfCaerbannog You're welcome!

@technastic_tc Fixed that too.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Cool! :)
Can you explan the -p in the mkdir command? I'm not good in understanding commands..

11:59 AM
@technastic_tc -p creates the parent directories, if they are not existing. In this case, without -p someone would have to first run mkdir ~/.local/share/gedit and then mkdir ~/.local/share/gedit/plugins, if ~/.local/share/gedit was not existing. With -p we create all missing folders in one shot.

The next time someone brings up the question on meta if Ubuntu+1 should be on-topic, I now have a direct example to why it shouldn't be and why our current policy is great:D

Today Kubuntu 20.10 is released. I tried to install pipewire again and the sound work fine, no issue. So maybe it was fixed with the release. Or maybe it was fixed by removing the package and installing it again. — Stéphane Tréboux yesterday

12:45 PM
@BeastOfCaerbannog Oh.. ok. Thanks for the info.
BTW, the pic in your answer was a good addition!

@technastic_tc Thanks and thank you so much for the bounty!!

@BeastOfCaerbannog You're welcome! <3
