Q: Re-launch Chrome from a guest account

user1271772Chrome crashed while I had a few tabs open, on a guest account with Ubuntu 16.04. I want to re-launch Chrome before signing out of this guest account, so that I can get my tabs back, before signing out of the guest account and losing any unsaved data, such as the records of what tabs were open. I don't use Chrome, but in firefox, the configuration is in the .mozilla directory in your home directory. I guess there would be something similar you can somehow get your tabs from (I wouldn't normally comment something so vague, but being stuck in a session sounds infuriating)

@Zanna I'm forced to use Firefox right now due to this Chrome problem :) hahaha Maybe I should have been like you and avoided Chrome all together!

I don't know the proper way to do it... I have this horrible way of doing it: when I want to get tabs etc from one system on another, I move the .mozilla directory to mozilla.bak on the destination system, copy .mozilla on the source system to a USB and plug it into the destination system and copy it to .mozilla on the destination system, open FF and copy the URLs of my tabs into some text file, then move mozilla.bak to .mozilla, open FF again and open all the URLS from the text file
I'm feeling embarrassed to admit this in public hahaha
there must be a very much better way
there is a sync feature you can use to get the same config on all your devices etc by signing in to Firefox, but I imagine that would not be what I want because I wouldn't want to overwrite the new config with the old config, just get some elements of the old config and add them to the new
but, yeah, idk where Chrome saves that stuff
have a look in the home directory for hidden folders (if using the file browser, press Ctrl+H, or if using a shell, use ls -a)

.cache/google-chrome/Default/Cache has sime files in it
All in binary though, so I have no idea what their contents are! haha

yeah, it's the same with the equivalent files for FF - they are binary files
hence the ugly method
but I guess you can't be sure those are the right files

2:17 AM
Okay maybe I should save them and then try to load them in Chrome from a different session. The only problem is that my non-guest Ubuntu session doesn't pick up the WiFi connection for some reason (only the guest account does!)
Yea I'm also not sure they are the right files, but I can at least check, by copying them over to the same place on a different account.

oh... maybe you can solve that wifi problem

@Zanna I hope so!

all the best!

Thank you so much Zanna

I didn't do anything... but let us know if/how you fix either of your problems! :)
