how do create a non lvm partition in the free space on /dev/md1?
https://i.imgur.com/9TgHebr.png
parted/gdisk/fdisk don't see any partitions on /dev/md1

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Are you nuts? Take the 500 rep for yourself!

@Fabby LOL I was just teasing mr. 1/4 mill points to give some up for his unsolvable problem :P

I mean: obviously you're nuts, but "Thank you for thinking of me, but if you have the knowledge, please reap the benefits."
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Rinzwind is also a rep whore, so he'll never give up 500 points!
:D :D :D

@Fabby He doesn't answer bounty questions though, just gets most points from quoting man pages which he freely boasts about.

@Gaia You cannot: its "free" to LVM only, not "free on disk" and the reason parted, ... cannot even see it

@Fabby thx. any way to free it to other partitions, maybe with a live disk?

12:50 AM
I need a last smoke and pit stop and then I need to go sleep!

Don't get me wrong @Rinzwind is a very smart man or woman.
or I guess other :P

@Gaia LVM is great if you can add disks as much as you want...
so the only option is: add disks.

Next step in evolution is you can't say man or woman.

i love it, but i want to use part of the raid1 for ZFS bc I need dedup

His name says it all: he's a wizzard! (yes, with 2 Zs)

12:51 AM
They call him Windy though?

Anyway! Smoke! Sleep!
Good night!

thx @fab
@fabby
maybe i need to resize md1?

Q: Multiple root.key files with Unbound installation on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Desktop

justinnoor.ioThe Unbound DNS resolver installation on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Desktop (amd64) has at least two root.key files. One of them lives in /usr/share/dns/root.key, and the other at /var/lib/unbound/root.key. Which one do we specify for the auto-trust-anchor-file server option in /etc/unbound/unbound.conf?

"Ubuntu gamers can breathe a sigh of relief as Valve has confirmed that Steam for Linux WILL support Ubuntu 19.10.

Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais says Ubuntu’s recent rethink over plans to axe its i386/32-bit archive means it is “…likely that we will be able to continue to officially support Steam on Ubuntu.”"
@fabby installed 5.1.15. installed 5.0.21 :=D
same problem :=) acpi errors

@Rinzwind OK. file a bug with the kernel team then.

Q: How do I delete the kernel and still run the OS

themeguyHello I want to delete my kernel and run the OS without the kernel. i dont like linux i only want GNU so i keep GNU and remove the kernel thanks?

wtf did he smoke? or is it the weather?

hahaha :D

I wont tell him about GNU/Hurd :P

1:20 PM
GNU Hurd is the multiserver microkernel … nope. :D

but it technically runs gnu without linux >:-D sort of

> It's time [to] explain the meaning of "Hurd". "Hurd" stands for "Hird of Unix-Replacing Daemons". And, then, "Hird" stands for "Hurd of Interfaces Representing Depth". We have here, to my knowledge, the first software to be named by a pair of mutually recursive acronyms.
I like that. :)

@Rinzwind I've known somebody to delete her Windows because it was taking too much space and she needed more to make personalised Birthday invites for her son's 12th birthday.
That is the same thing....

That Kernel question kind of got to me. Sounds like someone needs to take a class or study a lot more as to what an Operating System is.

OP had a typo here. I'm not sure correcting a typo is to be considered as a good answer. Should I vote to close the question as a dupe of this

4:44 PM
@Kulfy On those ones to me I think of them as judgement calls.

@Terrance I am voting to close as dupe then.

@Kulfy Sounds good to me and I agree so I'll join you.

@Terrance Thanks :)

Q: Why do all the links in /etc/rc6.d start with K if runlevel 6 corresponds to reboot?

vib_29I was trying to find out how to run a script at startup and during shutdown during which I got to know that level 6 corresponds to reboot in ubuntu. When I opened the /etc/rc6.d every link's name started with K which is for kill I suppose.

Q: Why do the shutdown and startup scripts placed at /etc/init.d/ not run on shutting down or during startup?

vib_29I basically have a simple script #!/bin/sh sudo echo "process kill" >> /home/logfile placed at etc/init.d/lokill and symbolic links K99lokill to /etc/init.d/lokill placed at /etc/rc0.d and /etc/rc6.d But after I restart the system ,the logfile is not even created. I've created similar script ...

7:44 PM
@Kulfy yes
+7 and 50 bounty but it ONLY has links that are dead so got deleted cuz of that

@Rinzwind Is the link on wayback machine? Could the post be revived?

@Rinzwind Is mail archive enough to satisfy what the answer needs? mail-archive.com/…

@Fabby You are the backup king with your killer Q&A. How would you copy a group of files by wildcard? ie cp Filename* *.bak copies Filename1 to Filename1.bak, Filename2 to Filename2.bak, etc. I've got 5 or 6 answers so far and thought you'd want in on the game: askubuntu.com/questions/1153994/…

11:51 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I would use for or rsync but your alias system looks good too.
And with thea I wish you a great night!

@Fabby there is an rsync answer posted, i uvoted it but some rude comment told him he used backup in the wrong sense as a verb instead of a noun. I flagged that comment for mods.

Good night!

@Fabby Good night!

@Fabby Ditto... Good night!

Well, then please... stop pinging me!
:D ;P

@Terrance stop pinging :P

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I'll behave! ;)

Don't tell me... Ping Fabby and tell him!
LOL

LOL!
WOW!! askubuntu.com/questions/1154505/… Long conversation for something we don't support here.
